Chapter 2

Haley was starting to hyperventilate. She could not stop thinking about Nathan down on one knee, she shook her head at the thought. He was crazy, she thought. I mean he had to be.

Sitting on the bed she began to imagine the ring she saw on her appropriate finger. Was she crazy too? Cause she smiled as she imagined her life with Nathan.

"No." She shook her head and tried to push away the thoughts, when a voice interrupted her.

"No what?" Quinn asked coming into Haley's room.

Haley looked up at her sister. She gave her a knowing look. "Nathan proposed to me."

"What?" Quinn's eyes bugged out and she sat down where she was. She looked up at her sister from her spot on the floor. "Is Nathan nuts?" She was flabbergasted. A teenage boy, proposing to his girlfriend, a boy who just a few months ago was just this big man on campus fort of guy. "Are you serious?"

Haley nodded her head. "I am very serious Quinny. Like he full of proposed, on his knee and everything. And I froze. I mean he just confessed his love to me."

"I agree, it's too soon." Quinn confessed. "Did you tell him that." Hakey shook her head. "Why the hell not?"

"No clue, I was scared. In shock."

"Us James girls, can't have one normal relationship, can we?"

"I know, right?" Haley scoffed. Her first relationship and four months in, she got proposed to.

Brooke opened the door to Karen's Cafe and looked around for Lucas.. she found him in the nearby corner table. "Hey Luke. Why are you in the corner? Are you in a time out?" She joked sitting down next to him.

"Ha, ha. Funny Brooke. Very funny. It's too cold outside to talk on the roof."

"Talk about what?"

"Haley."

"Oh."

"And Nathan."

"Yeah." She nodded and looked around. "I think I'm gonna need chocolate for this."

"I will get you some." Lucas said getting up and grabbed a couple slices of chocolate cake.

Nathan bounced the basketball and shot it through the hoop. He was hoping that by shooting some hoops it would take his mind off of Haley. "Stupid." Thing back to the last couple of days, he'd realized just how idiotic he was in pushing things so fats.

"Talking to yourself?" Peyton asked walking onto the court. "Doesn't seem like you."

"Yeah, welll, nothing seems to be me lately." He turned to her.

"How so?" She asked grabbing the basketball that had been rolling towards her.

"I did something stupid with Haley."

Peyton nodded her head. "It couldn't have been that bad. Lay it on me. What did you do?"

"I might habe, may have, definitely have—"

"—Spit it out, already."

"I asked Haley to marry me"

Peyton dropped the ball and all they heard was it boucing and rolling slowly out of reach. "You what?"

"I proposed to Haley." He repeated.

"That's what I thought you said." She began to walk over to where the picnic tables were and sat down. "Why on earth would you do that? Are you insane or something?"

"No."

"Well, then you must be taking drugs or something to do something this idiotic."

"No drug, just high on love." He shrugged and shook his head at his stupidity.

"Well, what did she say?"

"Do you think we should just let them be or do we intervene." Brooke asked Lucas taking a bite of her slice of cake.

"I think we should just let them be for now. You know, don't—I don't think we should pester the,. Let them figure things out without us."

"But who knows if they'll work things out or not."

Lucas shook his head. "No, Brooke. Give them time to do what they need to do. If they should come to us, we'll help."

"And if they don't?"

"Let's just take it one day at a time. Let's not worry about it."

"But it's Nathan and Haley. They're like epic."

"I know." He was worried about them too but he was just gonna let nature take its course. "Besides, if I know Haley I think the'll have things worked out fairly soon."
