Okay, I have no excuse for this late update. So let's get straight to the point: enjoy this honeymoon, 'cause it's gonna be a lot darker after!
You and me
"Where are we going?"
"It's a surprise." Alexandra pressed her lips together, pouting. "Alex…"
"Just one hint! Please!" She begged him.
"We are heading south."
"South? I've never been south."
"Well, that's a part of the thrill, isn't it?"
"Am I gonna like it?"
"Don't you trust me?"
"I trust you with my life Lucas Taylor."
Alexandra loved the way Lucas looked at her when she answered. His love for her was so obvious now that she couldn't understand why she had ever even doubted it.
After ten minutes of silence, Lucas glanced at her and realized she had fallen asleep. Leaving the colony at night after such a big day had been exhausting for both of them. But Lucas had to stay awake. His surprise was still 2 hours away.
Almost two hours later, Alexandra slowly woke up and turned her head to Lucas. She kept staring at him with a smile and waited. He eventually glanced at her but said nothing. She kept her eyes on him, the moon softly lighting his face, and a smile started to spread over his face.
"What?" he asked after a moment.
"Give me a hint."
"You're still on that?"
"One hint."
"Nope."
"Oh come on! Lucas! Please!"
"No."
"Husband, answer my question!" She joked.
"Wife, do what you're told!" He replied, amused.
"Lucas…" She said in a longing tone, giving him a mischievous smile that made his heart flutter rapidly.
"Alex…" He mimicked her.
"If you tell me, I'll be very nice to you," she teased him, her hand caressing his chest gently.
"Aren't you already nice to me?"
"That's right. Let's just say that I won't be nice to you if you don't say it," she replied, taking her hand away.
"You're not gonna stop, are you?" He asked, smirking.
"No," she beamed. She stared at him while he seemed to deliberate what he could say to her.
"Hmmmm… It doesn't change that a surprise is a surprise."
"One word. Just one single word. Pleeeaase," she begged.
"Beach."
"Did you really just call me bitch?" She grimaced. Lucas burst out laughing at her question. "What?" She asked, half smiling.
It took a few minutes for Lucas to calm himself and stop laughing.
"I said beach. Like with sand. Not bitch. God, how could I say that to you?" He smiled widely, his eyes sparkling with tears of laughter.
"Oops! I guess I misunderstood you."
"No one is perfect Alex," he teased her.
"If no one is perfect does that mean I do not exist?" She said, her face serious but her tone full of humor.
"Riiiiiiiight," he agreed with a funny face. "Anyway, you won't have to torture me for clues anymore. We're there in a minute."
Alexandra sat back in her seat quickly, her gaze far away, trying to figure out what was coming. When Lucas parked the rhino at the edge of the forest, she jumped out.
"Wow… Is it really what I think it is?"
"Well, if you're thinking it's the sea, then you're right."
"This is beautiful," she whispered, her eyes watching the horizon as the sun was rising. They were on an immense beach. The sand was white and shiny. The sea was a light turquoise blue, totally transparent. "I don't even have a bikini," she suddenly realized.
"Well, I asked Maddy to pack your bag with what you'd need. But as far as a bikini is concerned, you can swim naked if you'd like," he beamed.
"Do you even have a swimsuit?"
"Nope."
"Liar," she chuckled. "You only want to see me naked!"
"Yep," he smirked widely.
"Don't lie to your wife Mister Taylor, it's not a good start for your marriage," she teased him, approaching him slowly. She pressed her body against his as she put her hands on his chest, her fingers tracing invisible drawings on his shirt playfully. He wrapped her in his arms, pulling her closer, his eyes filled with love but also burning with desire.
"Mrs. Taylor…" He murmured in her ear, making her shiver from head to toe.
She looked at him seductively before running out of his arms and jumping fully dressed into the sea. Alexandra plunged into the water happily. When her head rose from the waves, she saw a worried look on Lucas' face.
"What?" She asked, suddenly stressed.
"Get out! Quick!" He urged.
Alexandra looked around her while she was running out, afraid.
"What? What is it?" She asked shakily when she was near Lucas.
"You didn't even ask me if you could swim in the sea," he scolded her. "It could be dangerous! Some fishes are carnivores!"
"Really?" She said with wide eyes.
"No," Lucas smirked before running to the sea and jumping into the waves. "Do you really think I would bring you here if it was dangerous?" He yelled, laughing.
"Ass hole!" She smiled before joining him. "You're such a…"
But she didn't even have the time to finish her sentence. He grabbed her and dragged her under quickly. They played in the sea like kids until they decided they should prepare the tent for the day so they wouldn't have to worry about it. Lucas built the army tent quickly, then he grabbed their bags and they both took off their soaked clothes. Alexandra put on a pair of shorts and a tank top while Lucas went inside to find something to wear.
When he got out of the tent and grimaced at Alexandra, she stared at him, her mouth slightly agape. Now she was definitely in heaven. Lucas looked horribly sexy. His hair was a mess but it looked good on him – almost like it was purposeful. His beard was just long enough to show how macho he was without being too much. His tanned muscular chest was just mouthwatering. And those shorts were just making him cool and relaxed, exactly who he could be when he wanted.
"I think you look sexy in those shorts!"
"Hmmm I don't know," he said, looking oddly down at himself.
"I like it. You look like a surfer!"
"A what?"
"You know, those hot guys who surf on the waves like gods, their blond hair lightened by the salt of the sea and their muscular bodies tanned by the sun."
"Okay, I see," he said.
"You see nothing," Alexandra pointed out.
"No, you're right. I have no idea what you're talking about. But, I guess that the hot part was a compliment," he told her, a smile starting to spread at the corners of his mouth.
"Definitely," she smiled mischievously, biting the corner of her bottom lips in excitement.
Lucas walked to her and stopped inches away from her face.
"Before we start on the hot activities," he grinned, "I'm gonna play my doctor part." He put his words into action and grabbed a small white box.
"I see," Alexandra frowned.
"What? Did you really think that Elizabeth would let me go away with you without agreeing to keep an eye on your health?"
"Maybe..."
"Okay, let's just do it quick then. Gimme your finger."
"Hang on. What happens if my results aren't good?"
Lucas observed her quickly.
"Is there a reason why I should be worried?"
"No. No, I feel fine."
"Then let's go," he said, grabbing her hand firmly and taking a sample of her blood.
Alexandra seemed worried for the first time since her recovery.
"It's gonna be fine," he reassured her.
"It's just I don't wanna screw our honey moon up because something is wrong with my bloody blood..."
The machine emitted a beep and Lucas smiled.
"I told you! Everything's fine," he grinned, kissing her gently.
"Great! Let's celebrate it then!"
Lucas' smile widened and he grabbed her waist.
"You're absolutely right. Come on, darling, let's consummate our marriage!"
He led her to their tent and made love to her. Twice. Because he was just so elated to be her husband. So thrilled she was his wife. He was simply happy and he wanted this feeling to never leave him.
Around one in the afternoon, they laid on the sand, enjoying the warmth of the sun.
"How could I not know that you were so good at massaging before?" Lucas murmured tenderly against her ear, his fingers running absentmindedly along her arm.
"There's a lot about me you don't know yet," she winked.
"Are there other secrets I should know about?"
"I don't know. Maybe. You'll learn them with time," she grinned. "What about you? Is there something I don't know that could surprise me?"
"Hmmm… I'm a really good biker."
"Are you?"
"Yes."
"You're mocking me."
"No, honest."
"I've never seen you around a motorbike. Not even driving one."
"Well, I never had the opportunity nor the reason since I've been living with you. But I am very talented when it comes to two wheels."
"Wow, I never would have imagined this…"
"I could teach you one day if you like?"
"That would be great."
Suddenly a malicious smile appeared on her face while she was staring at Lucas. When he smiled back at her, the corners of her mouth kicked up even more.
"What?"
"I am imagining you with leather clothes…"
"And?"
"It makes you sexy," she chuckled, lust in her eyes. A small laugh escaped his mouth.
"You're crazy."
Alexandra beamed at him with pride.
"And I like that," he added, kissing her gently on the forehead.
"I love it," Alexandra exhaled after a moment.
"What?" He asked.
"This. The sun, the sea, the sand... You and me. Just the two of us."
"All alone."
"I don't like to do nothing when I'm at the colony but here I just want to be lazy."
"I know what you mean," he said, stretching his arms above his head.
"You didn't sleep last night. Why don't you try to sleep a bit?"
"And miss a moment with you? No way."
"Be lazy with me then," she said, putting her arm over his chest and bringing him closer to her. Lucas did the same and in no time at all, he fell asleep. And without even realizing it, Alexandra joined him in the arms of Morpheus.
When she woke up, Lucas was not there anymore. She sat up, her body aching from the sleep on the hard sand.
"That was not such a great idea after all," she grumbled while stretching her arms, hoping it would help her sore back. She glanced around and still couldn't see Lucas. A sound from the tent made her stand quickly.
"Lucas! Could you stop sneaking up on… me."
Alexandra's voice drifted off when she saw him. He had changed into a more casual style. He had put on a white button up shirt, with sleeves rolled up to show off his powerful forearms, and a pair of brown shorts. Of course, she knew perfectly what he looked like with or without clothes on, but somehow, the contrast of his white shirt and his deeply tanned skin caused her heart to rush. Her mouth went dry, and she quickly looked at Lucas' face before he saw her staring, too late. His sexy smirk completely took over his face, paired with smug satisfaction.
"We've got a bit of time if you'd like to get freshened up too." His eyes slid over her bikini and the large shirt she had put on. "But it's only if you like, 'cause you look beautiful in whatever you're wearing."
"What a line, Taylor," she mocked teasingly. "Did you get a lot of girls with lines that smooth?"
"Don't taunt me like that, Taylor," he replied, his voice more forceful when he said her new name.
Alexandra, once again, didn't have the strength to fight the smile that came upon her face. Being in love and happy was really a thing she had never understood. But now she was fully living it, she could perfectly see why people in love looked so stupid with a silly smile on their face all the time.
"How can I help you?"
"Help me with what?"
"I don't know…"
"I'm okay."
"I'm sure there's something I can do to help."
"No honestly there's nothing. I'm perfectly okay here."
"Sure?"
"Sure."
"Even something like… huh… wash your clothes or… clean the tent?"
"Wash my clothes? Clean the tent? What's wrong with you?"
"You're doing everything since we arrived. You made this surprise, you took me here, you built the tent, you brought the food and you cook… You're doing everything!"
"Aren't you supposed to be happy with that?"
"I am… It's not that…"
"What is it then?" He asked, coming closer
"I feel useless!" She confessed, her eyes looking down. Her answer made Lucas chuckle. He wrapped her in his arms and tilted his head to force her to look at him.
"I like it that way. You just have to enjoy this. It makes me happy to see you happy."
"Really?"
"Really," he replied truthfully. "But if you want, I know a way you can thank me for that," he grinned crookedly.
"I know exactly what you want," she smiled. "Fruits!" She quickly got out of his embrace and headed to the jungle.
"Hey! I was not thinking about that!"
"Oh really?" He heard her laugh in the jungle.
Lucas jogged after her, not worried about the dangers of the jungle. He knew it was a safe zone. He found her lying against a trunk, biting her bottom lip.
"Hi, stranger."
"Hi," she smiled.
"What's a beautiful woman like you doing alone in this dangerous jungle?" He asked while stepping nonchalantly to her.
"Uh… I'm waiting for my husband."
"Oh, you're married?"
"Looks like it," she said, showing him the wedding ring on her finger.
"Such a shame…"
"Why?"
"Because if you were single, I'd take you in a manly fashion," Lucas teased her, smiling crookedly.
"Oh I think my husband wouldn't mind though. He'd be okay with it, if it's with you."
"If he is then," he grinned. She shrieked as he threw her on his shoulders and headed back to their tent.
They spent the next couple of days playing, enjoying each other, and having sex. It was the perfect honey moon for both of them. But on their last evening, they could both feel that the atmosphere had changed. It was definitely heavier than the days before. The countdown was back and tension with it.
Gathered next to the campfire, Lucas was caressing Alexandra's tattoo absentmindedly while her head was resting upon his shoulder.
"Do you remember how it was… How you were… How you felt when you wanted your father to be dead?"
Lucas was startled by her sudden question but tried to act like it was a casual conversation. He knew the closer they were to returning to the colony, the darker her thoughts had become. Reality was reaching them quicker than he had thought.
"Yes." As Alexandra didn't continue, Lucas felt the need to ask her why.
"I hate him for what he has done to me," she started to explain. "I hate him because of what I've become. He has made me different. He has changed me. And I hate it. I'm filled with hatred for him. And it makes me hate this situation more."
"Then don't let him win. Don't let him have this power over you."
"I've tried, but I'm well aware I can't do that. That's why I'm so frustrated. Either I kill him and he wins because I act exactly how he taught me to. Or I don't kill him and I'm the weak person he always treated me as."
"I know it's not simple."
"Would you still love me if I kill my own father?"
"Would you?"
"If you kill my father?"
"No, would you if I had killed mine?"
"It's different."
"There's no difference between killing mine or yours. It's ending our own father's life."
"If I'm honest, I guess I don't know the answer. Deep down, I hope I would have understood your choice."
Lucas wanted her to make the most of their honeymoon because soon, she might have to face a new loss. Both of them knew fairly well that if it was not her or him, someone was probably going to kill her father when he's going to try to invade Terra Nova. Even after everything he had done, Lucas knew Charles was still her father, and it would hurt her to see him die. The worst part of it was that Lucas couldn't protect her from this pain. She would suffer anyway.
"Alex, from now on, it's the two of us. We're one. I married you because I wanted us to be together until the end. I'd follow you wherever you go and I would stay with you no matter what you do. I'm not saying I will agree with you all the time. I'm not saying that I will approve your choices all of the time. But I'll stick with you because you're my wife and I love you. I'll always stay by your side because I promised you I would."
"You have no idea how much more I love you when you say things like that," she smiled lovingly.
"You've done all these things that could kill you somehow. And you've been so far down. But you will survive this because you are you. And I won't let you forget that."
"Since when did you become the one who is overly supportive?"
"Nice," he frowned.
"No, honestly, Lucas. You have changed so much."
Lucas' face darkened a bit and Alexandra felt the need to explain herself.
"Don't take this wrong. You haven't changed. You've just revealed yourself completely. And I'm so… I feel so happy for you. It fills me up inside, like a kind of… pride. This is it. I love you, and you're so beautiful. You're a good man, and you don't even see it. It makes you even more beautiful."
Lucas looked at her with tenderness reflecting in his eyes.
"Do you know what I liked the most about you when we first met?"
"My unique sense of humor?" She chuckled.
"That, and your frankness."
She grinned shyly, and his own smile widened. Alexandra put her head down on his legs and laid down on the sand in silence. They stayed silent a moment, Lucas stroking her hair while it was her turn to let her mind wander. Alexandra broke this quiet moment when she realized he was staring at her.
"What?"
"What what?" He asked.
"What's that face for?"
"This? This is me, noticing you staring at me."
"Oh."
Alexandra had not realized she was the one who was staring at first.
"Why are you staring at me?"
"I don't know. I was… You really look like your father when you do that", she frowned.
"Alex, don't change the subject."
"I was just wondering about things… You know… What's the word for this?" she asked herself aloud.
"Day dreaming?" He guessed.
"Exactly", she stated quickly, a hint of excitement in the voice. "EX-AC-TLY", she repeated loudly.
Lucas stared at her dubiously with big eyes, a thin smile forming on his face.
"You're really good at it", she teased. "Speaking English, I mean. Yep, very good."
"Sorry that your foreign language is not the one which is spoken here", he joked.
"I don't know if I can stay here knowing that", she added, grinning.
Lucas' smile widened.
"What is on your mind, love?"
She looked down shyly.
"We could elope together," she suggested.
Lucas burst into laughter.
"What?" she asked, feeling ridiculous.
Lucas tried hard to erase the smile that was on his face before speaking again.
"First, we're already married. So there's no point in eloping."
"Oh."
"Second, did you just say elope? Is that a new word you learnt recently?"
"Shut up," she shoved him, making him laugh even more. "Lucas! You always forget that English is not my first language!" She argued while sitting up.
Lucas started laughing again.
"What's wrong with the word elope anyway?"
"I love you," he beamed widely, before kissing her.
She pushed him away, vexed.
"Fuck you," she said, her tone hard to define.
"Let me redeem myself," he pleaded, trying hard to contain the grin that was starting to rise at the corner of his mouth.
Alexandra folded her arms over her chest, pouting.
"Come on," he insisted. "I won't bite".
"I know we've already tried before, but we could handle it now. I'm sure we could. We could stay here. You're all I need to live. I know it," she argued.
Lucas' face became more serious.
"We did not really try…"
"No, I mean..."
"I know what you mean, love. I'd like it, too. But it would not be who we are to flee the fight that is going to lead us to freedom."
Alexandra pursed her lips in a thin line, knowing perfectly well that he was right. Yet, the idea of living away from the colony didn't seem like such a bad idea.
"I know," she sighed. "I had to try, didn't I?" she said lightly as if it didn't matter.
"Come here," Lucas commanded her.
Alexandra came into his open arms and stayed there until her eyes couldn't stay open. They both looked one last time at the reflection of the moon on the sea and went inside their tent to sleep before the big departure.
In the morning, once they had all packed up in the rhino, they took a few minutes to stare at the infinite sea in front of them. Both their stomachs were tightly knotted. Neither of them wanted these holidays to end. But it had to. In a weighty silence, they walked to the vehicle and Lucas turned the engine on. Only sighs and heavy breaths punctuated the whole trip. Neither of them wanted to lie to the other one. They both knew it was difficult to come back to the hard reality after such a break.
"We're getting close to the colony," Lucas whispered almost sadly. "Maybe another ten minutes."
He reached over for Alexandra's hand, and she kissed it before resting her face in his palm, her eyes shut. He pulled the rhino over and turned it off.
"Alex?"
"What?"
"Look at me for a minute."
"Why?" She murmured, her eyes still shut.
"I am the luckiest man in the world," he told her.
Alexandra opened her eyes only to realize Lucas was inches away from her. She stared at him before turning away to look out the window.
"Shut up."
"I'm being serious," he said reaching over to pull her chin back to look at him. "If I could keep you out here with me all the time I would without a second thought."
Alexandra held his gaze.
"Lucas..." She tried to interrupt.
"Alex, honestly, I would."
"I'm sure you would." Alexandra replied eagerly.
"I know I laughed earlier about the eloping plan. I didn't mean to be rude."
"I was not serious…"
Lucas pressed his lips together, knowing she was probably lying.
"You look so sad," he explained tenderly. "I don't wanna see you sad."
"It's normal," she shrugged. "Holidays are over."
"It's gonna be fine," he swore to her.
"Yeah," she said with a small voice before turning her eyes back to the jungle.
Lucas stared at her a little bit more before moving to turn the rhino back on.
The gates of Terra Nova appeared in front of them a few minutes later. Alexandra's stomach twisted immediately. It really was strange how easily they had completely forgotten everything that was going on at Terra Nova and how fast all of the problems had come back to them the minute they arrived.
Lucas glanced at her and noticed her tensed face. His hand reached hers, stroking it.
Alexandra had a bad feeling. She didn't want to go back to the colony. She wanted Lucas to drive them away. Away from what was coming up. Away from the war. Away from the death. Away from her father. Away from a life where she would have to make very difficult decisions.
"It's gonna be fine," he swore again.
"I know," she exhaled loudly, trying to convince herself more than to agree with Lucas' statement. "It's gonna be fine."
Feel the music, feel the story
"I could stay awake just to hear you breathing, watch you smile while you are sleeping while you're far away and dreaming. I could spend my life in this sweet surrender. I could stay lost in this moment forever where every moment spent with you is a moment I treasure. Don't wanna close my eyes, I don't wanna fall asleep 'cause I'd miss you baby and I don't wanna miss a thing. 'Cause even when I dream of you the sweetest dream would never do I'd still miss you baby and I don't want to miss a thing. Lying close to you feeling your heart beating and I'm wondering what you're dreaming, wondering if it's me you're seeing. Then I kiss your eyes and thank God we're together. I just wanna stay with you in this moment forever, forever and ever. […] I don't wanna miss one smile, I don't wanna miss one kiss. I just wanna be with you, right here with you, just like this. I just want to hold you close, feel your heart so close to mine and just stay here in this moment for all the rest of time." Aerosmith – I don't want to miss a thing
