Hello everyone! I've been in a writing mood the last week so you've got a quick update with this story. However with summer coming to a close, I'm not sure when I'll post again. Hopefully before school starts cx
There's no more waiting
We're still worth saving
Feel the light
Shining in the dark of night
Remember what we forgot
I know it's a long shot
But we're bringing it all back
We're bringing it all back
-"Feel The Light" Jennifer Lopez
Santa Barbara: 2019
They broke apart a few second later both gasping heavily. Shawn rested his forehead against hers. "You're engaged." He reminded her putting his hands on her hips.
"Shh…" She kissed him again running her hands though his hair.
"Don't leave me." Shawn whispered breaking the kiss.
"Never." Juliet responded hugging him to her body. Shawn was glad for the personal touch and the warmth she gave him. Wrapping his arms around her and placing his head on her shoulder while she gave a long kiss to the back of his head felt right. This felt right. Years of him being alone with an old black and white memory of the girl he still loved being washed away with color and reality. She was here with him. He had her in his arms again. This time he wasn't letting her go, nothing would stop him.
"I love you," Shawn whispered kissing her neck.
"I love you too." Her arms tightened around him. He leaned back from her embrace and used his thumb to wipe away the old tears from her eyes.
"We'll do it right this time Jules I promise." Juliet smiled and kissed his forehead.
"I know we will, I know."
A loud knock on the door had Juliet jumping up and apart from Shawn. Juliet was leaning against the opposite wall with her chest heaving. "O'Hara?" Carlton called knocking again.
"What?" Juliet responded unsteadily.
"Are you and Spencer… decent?" He asked awkwardly. The first thing he'd noticed when he walked into the hospital room was the lack of patient and guard that was supposed to be watching him. The bathroom door had been shut but two voices could be heard from the other side.
"Yeah Lassiter." Shawn answered rubbing the back of his neck. Carlton opened the door and stepped inside leaving the door open. .
"I don't know and I don't care what the hell is happening in here. But I remind you that you're supposed working." He looked at Juliet, "and that you are a visiting consultant." He turned to Shawn. "What you do in your free time is none of business. However, you both need to keep things professional when in the working environment, am I clear?"
Both Shawn and Juliet nodded their heads. "I didn't get to keep my promise last time Spencer so I'll renew it. You keep steady this time Spencer. Don't hurt her again. Or I will repeatedly discharge my gun on your body. Understand?"
"Understand Lassiter." Shawn nodded again.
"Good. Now get back to work… or guarding. Whatever." Carlton turned from the room and walked out leaving the door open.
"Let's get you back in bed." With an arm around his waist they stood Shawn up and walked back to the hospital bed. Juliet helped him sit down before returning to her previous seat. Shawn put a hand on his side and felt the bandage. "Want me to get a nurse?"
"No I'm okay. I don't really feel it anymore… actually yeah. Get a nurse." Shawn watched as Juliet left the room then returned a few minutes later with a nurse.
"Everything alright Mister Spencer?" The nurse asked.
"Yeah, but I need you get me whatever forms I need to sign so I can leave." Shawn told her.
"Shawn you're not leaving." Juliet crossed her arms, "You pulled your stitches and have had a fever going up and down. You need to stay here."
"I agree Mister Spencer. It's in your best regard if you stayed." The nurse sided with Juliet.
"I'm checking out AMA." He pressed.
The nurse sighed, "I'll get the forms." She turned from the room and walked out.
"What the hell are you trying to do?" Juliet glared at him.
"I'm fine." Shawn nodded.
Despite Juliet's looks and verbal pushes Shawn signed the forms and was currently waiting as Juliet pulled the car around. He knew his parents would be pissed, especially his mother. But staying in the hospital another minute was not an option. Still angry with him Juliet didn't move to help him get into the car. With little struggle Shawn was in the passenger seat buckled in and ready to go.
"You better hope nothing happens." Juliet glanced at him.
"Nothing will. I'll be okay." He put a reassuring hand on her shoulder.
"Home?"
"Station." Shawn responded. The rest of the car ride was quiet. The tension previously with them had melted away with their admission of feelings. It felt just as it had before Shawn had left. A quiet car ride to the station or to Juliet's apartment.
So much was going on around them. Shawn was a father while Juliet was engaged to another man. A soap opera would be fit to describe their current situation. Shawn only hoped Juliet wouldn't change her mind. Arriving at the station they exited the car and walked into the station.
"I need to pee," Shawn told Juliet heading towards the bathroom. Juliet kept an eye on him to make sure he got there okay. "Detective O'Hara come see this." She was called over by Buzz.
In the bathroom Shawn washed his hands with the cold water. Wetting his face he sighed in content as it cooled his skin. He was unbelievably hot. Probably the fever. Touching his cheeks Shawn felt stubble and ran a hand down to his chin. He made a mental note to shave later.
"Wow. You certainly know how to keep a guy interested." Shawn said staring up at ceiling. He shook his head and left the room joining the working people in the station.
"About time." Henry snarked as Shawn rounded a corner.
"Jesus dad! You're going to give me a heart attack."
"That's not funny Goose. Why did you check out?" Madeline said folding her arms with a glare.
"It wasn't supposed to be…" Shawn shrugged. "What are you guys doing here? And where's Zuri?"
"We came here looking for you. We went to the hospital only to find out that you'd checked yourself out. Logically we came here." Henry explained.
His mom unfolded her arms and placed them on his shoulders. "Are you okay?"
"Mom," Shawn groaned. "You don't see any other parents here."
"When one of their children is at risk for a heart attack I guarantee they'd be here too."
"Where's my daughter?" Shawn mumbled.
"Oh. Um…" Maddie looked around.
"Zuri?" Henry stood away from the wall.
"Great. You lost my kid," Shawn threw his arms up in the air.
"Hello Spencers!" They all turned and found Karen Vick walking towards them with Zuri's hand in hers. "I believe this is your daughter?" Zuri ran from Karen and to her father.
"Yeah! Where was she? And what are you doing here?" Shawn picked Zuri up and placed her on his uninjured hip.
"She was down by the vending machine." Karen started, "Carlton gave me a call. I thought I'd come down and offer my services.
"That's very nice of you." Maddie smiled at her.
"Don't run off." Henry scolded Zuri shaking his finger at her.
"Shawn!" He heard his name called from across the station. He turned to find Juliet, Buzz and Carlton looking at him. The way their faces were held proved to Shawn whatever they wanted wasn't good.
"Stay with grandma." Shawn put Zuri down and approached the small group with Henry and Karen by his side.
"You're gonna wannna see this…" Juliet pressed the spacebar on her keyboard. The computer screen flashed from black to a video. The graphics were bad and Shawn could barely make out figures in the video. Static could be heard from wherever the people were.
"What am I watching?" Shawn asked after a few minutes. The video hadn't changed at all since its first appearance.
"Listen." Juliet pressed another button and suddenly Shawn could hear voices.
"I-I-I I don't know if I can do this anymore." A voice trembled. A loud bang had the person whimpering. "They're just kids!" The soft tone had Shawn guessing their sex as female.
"I can't stop now!" A rougher voice yelled. "I'm almost finished with my plan… just a few more and my point will be proven."
Shawn squinted at the screen, "Can you make the video any clearer?"
Juliet nodded but hesitated to move her hand, "Do it O'Hara." Carlton commanded her. Juliet sighed and moved her curser. A few seconds later the video went clear. Shawn could indeed identify one of the people as a woman.
"The build of this person makes them seem like a man." Henry said pointing to the other figure. Light seemed to be everywhere in the room but on the man. He was in a dark area of the video while around him was bright and colorful.
"Keep watching." Buzz said nervously shifting his feet.
"What the hell is everyone's problem?" Shawn asked looking at Carlton. "This is breaking evidence. Not some sex tape or whatever. I don't know why everyone is nervous."
"That's why Shawn…" Henry sighed pointing at another figure who was entering the video. He stood tall. A neat black beard a stark contrast to his bald head.
"I have an appointment." The man said.
"No… no, no, no, no!" Shawn shook his head. "There's a mistake here! There has to be there's no way. No way!"
"What's your name?" The woman said putting her attention on the new man as the old disappeared.
"Burton Guster."
"Gus," Shawn ran his hands through his hair.
"We're bringing him in now," Carlton closed his eyes and took a deep breath. It wasn't uncommon for Shawn or Gus to somehow manage to be in contact with criminals. It happened almost weekly. That had been years ago. Since Shawn's departure from the city Burton Guster had no run in with the law. No parking tickets, no complaints and no visits to his old colleagues. It was like his past in Psych had suddenly and completely disappeared.
"This is getting complicated." Karen wiped the sweat off her forehead.
"You're telling me." Shawn shook his head, "No way Gus knows what's going on here."
"Maybe, but we still have to bring him Spencer." Carlton said. "He should be here any minute." Juliet looked at Shawn.
"Can you handle this?" Henry whispered to Shawn.
"I'm going to have to." Shawn responded not bothering to hide his voice. He wasn't looking forward to what was going to happen next. Another confrontation with his old friend may just put him down enough to go back to the hospital if an asthma attack is trigged like before. Shawn felt a small touch on his thigh; a subtle reminder that Juliet was here for him. She wouldn't let things get out of control, nor would his father.
A few seconds later they all watched as Burton Guster was led down the hall. His appearance was almost the same as it had been days before. Still clad in the nice suit but his beard had been shaved to slight subtle. Shawn frowned when he noticed Gus's wrists together in handcuffs.
"Resisted to come in." One of the offers stopped to explain while the other led Gus towards the interrogation room. "We had to push him down and cuff him."
"That's not like him… something is going on." Henry said looking at Shawn.
"I have no idea dad; I haven't talked to him in years." Shawn shrugged.
"But compared to when you did, he never acted like this." Juliet pointed out.
"I guess not." Shawn nodded.
"Let's get this over with. McNabb I'm going in with O'Hara, stay with the Spencer's and Karen in the observation room." Carlton told the youthful detective.
"Yes sir."
The small group walked down the hall to the last room. Two went in through the second door while the rest went in through the first. Upon entering the room Shawn noticed Gus's body position. He was sitting up straight, his hands folded before him. His eyes stared at the wall in front of him even after Juliet and Carlton had sat across from him.
"Nice to see you again Juliet, Lassie." Gus nodded to Carlton.
"Do you know why you're here Guster?" Carlton leaned back in the chair and folded his arms.
"Vaguely." He responded in short. "Look. I didn't do anything wrong. I went into the office for an appointment." Gus hit his hand on the table softly to make a point.
"What appointment?" Juliet questioned.
"None of your damn business," Gus's eyes narrowed at her. "I know I didn't do anything."
"Just tell us the truth Guster." Carlton snapped. "This man has killed kids! He will continue to kill them. You expect me to think you have nothing to do with this? What idiot do you think I am?"
"Just cooperate Gus…" Shawn whispered from behind the glass.
"I don't think you're an idiot. But I'm telling you. I went in to speak with a doctor, not to help plan a murder." Gus explained.
"I don't buy it." Carlton shook his head.
"What were you seeing him for Gus?" Juliet looked at him softly. Shawn watched as Gus's face melted. He'd never been good at keeping mad when a woman asked him a question.
"Marriage counseling." Gus whispered a few minutes later.
"Do you know this man?" Juliet took out a screenshot of the video from a manila folder. She showed it to Gus who studied it closely.
"No. I've never seen him before."
"What about the woman?" Juliet produced another picture.
"She's the receptionist. I don't remember her name though. Am I allowed to go now?" Gus held out his handcuffed hands to Carlton.
"Yes but don't go far." Carlton got up and left the room while Juliet unlocked the handcuffs.
"Thank you." Gus rubbed his wrists then left the room quickly. Shawn listened as he passed the door.
"What do you think Shawn?" Karen asked.
"I don't know… I don't know…" Shawn sighed rubbing his face.
I know I said Gus wouldn't have a big part. This may change, not sure yet. Let me know how you guys liked it :D
