A Devastating Truth
~ Okami ~
"…I think it's about time I've told you all something…" Okami said grabbing everyone's attention. Okami knew that she had to tell them, Ai and Urufu just saw her not too long ago rip Ai's father in half and told team RWBY what happened when they finally came. Her friends were in great danger and they had the right to know what they were in danger of… But Okami didn't want to tell them and she quickly tried to change the subject.
Okami looked to her side and saw Urufu sitting next to Ai's wolf and realized that Urufu was purposely making herself bigger than the wolf next to her, she then remembered she doesn't know its name.
"What's her name?" Okami asked gesturing her head towards the white wolf.
Ai gave her a questioning look but answered the question anyway. "Hime, her name is Hime."
"You named your wolf 'Princess'?" Okami asked with a small laugh.
"Says the girl who named her wolf 'Wolf'!" Ai shot back.
Okami blushed and looked away. "Actually, I just gave her the nickname you gave me…"
"Actually, I just gave Hime the nickname you gave me…" Ai said.
Okami looked at Ai and saw that she was blushing and looking away. Ai noticed and collected herself, she then brought Okami back on topic.
"Weren't you telling us something important?" Ai asked, causing a large drop of sweat to slide down the side of Okami's head.
"Right…there is something I need to tell all of you…" Okami gulped and took a shaky breath before she spoke. "What happened in the forest, when Yukimoto-kun died…that wasn't me…"
"We know." Said Ai. "When it happened I heard you say, 'It looks like my job is done, I'll be seeing you soon.' It was your voice but it was different, it was like there were multiple Okami's and they all spoke at once. And your eyes…they were blood red until right before you passed out and went back into your original form…Okami…if that wasn't you, then who was that?"
Okami stayed quiet for a short while, she really didn't want to tell them all of this but she kept pushing herself to keep talking. No matter how painful it was.
"In my time living in the forest, I met a human boy who saved my life. He was like me, he had trouble controlling his aura." Okami said taking more shaky breaths as she spoke. "We became close, and he was the first human I ever trusted and befriended. We stuck together for six short months…"
"We trained together, we worked together, we taught each other, we argued, and we fought." Okami let out a small giggle and a sad smile stayed on her lips. "It was almost like we were siblings… I guess that growing up without a family makes you long to be connected to the people who are like you in some way."
"Things were going great…until there was the accident…" Okami's expression turned dark again and the smile completely vanished. "We were sparring together with our weapons for practice, one of my claw rings sliced down his arm and he lost control… He attacked me and I was probably going to die when I lost control of my own aura… I blacked out so I don't know what happened, but when I woke up Urufu had healed my wounds and the human boy's blood was splattered everywhere. I looked next to me and there was a fresh pile of dug up snow that was soaked in blood and drag marks leading to it…"
Okami was close to tears, but she couldn't stop after going this far. "At that time I, realized what was happening but I didn't know how to stop it… I lost control every now and then, but not often and when I did I had a strong desire to kill anything that moved, so I gave it the name 'Kira'."
Okami looked back up at them and took a deep breath. "The person who killed Yukimoto-kun was Kira…my Wolf Spirit."
Team RWBY looked at each other with a confused expression as if they were hiding something, and Ai's eyes widened at what she said.
"Wait, you are still losing control of your aura?" Ai asked. "I thought I stopped it from growing back at the village…"
"You did, but I'm mostly losing control because of Kira trying to take over when I use it." Okami said in a sad tone. "And actually, it started to grow again, that's why I now have a tail too…do you think you can stop it again for me?"
Ai walked over to Okami and started to examine her. She finally stepped back and asked, "Has your body changed anywhere else?"
"Y-Yeah…" Okami stuttered. "My hair has gotten thicker and longer, my fangs are getting larger, and I have been craving meat more…"
Ai brushed back Okami's bangs and looked into her eyes. Okami always liked her hair in the hunter's hair cut (pretty much an U.S. military cut but the top hair is longer and is spiked up at the front), it was easy to take care of and was out of her face, but after she was banished her hair grew. So she let the back and the very back of the sides grow out and tied it in a "wolf tail" (a low pony tail) but wouldn't normally let it past her shoulder blades, then she would cut the top and sides in the hunter style. However, after that incident she had with Yang the first time her hair has grown profusely, her "wolf tail" was down to her mid back and the top and sides grew so long that it was in her face and even went an inch past her jaw line when her hair was wet and not spiked out and down.
Ai lightly brushed any stray hairs and looked into Okami's eyes with great concentration. She then closed the gap between them and gently pressed her head against Okami's and kept it there for a bit while RWBY was watching them curiously. When Ai pulled back her expression was a concerned one, that wasn't a good sign…
"When did your aura start to increase?" Ai asked in a small and sad voice.
Okami didn't like the way Ai was acting even before she gave an answer. "Two weeks ago, is that bad?"
Ai shook her head and Okami's chest was filled with dread. "I'm sorry…it's too late for me to make any difference. If it were three to five days ago I would have had a chance, but at this point all you can do is let it grow and pray it will stop before it's too late…"
The room became deadly quiet as everyone tried to process what has just been said. Everyone was deep in thought until Ruby broke the ice.
"Um, Okami?... What will happen if your aura doesn't stop growing in time?"
Okami stayed quiet for a bit while she tried to figure out the best way to explain. "It will be just like what happened tonight and those two times I attacked Yang… I will slowly start to transform into my wolf form and Kira will become harder and harder to fend off. Then eventually I will turn into a wolf permanently and my Wolf Spirit will completely take control of my body…"
There was another moment of silence and this time Yang spoke up.
"Yeah, sooo…what exactly is a 'Wolf Spirit'?" She asked.
Ai was the one to answer this time. "A 'Wolf Spirit' is a 'gift' to wolf faunuses who are able to connect, learn, and adapt to their animal on a level in which most can't. It's rare for anyone to develop a Wolf Spirit and is almost like being blessed, it's our version of a 'Guardian Angel'."
"Meaning that their roll is to protect the faunus that developed that spirit, so whenever a faunus with a Wolf Spirit is about to be killed in a fight or strongly believes they are going to their spirit will work with their faunus or take control if their faunus is in emotional distress until that faunus is safe from any harm. Even if the faunus isn't fighting the spirit will appear if they are in any negative emotional state like anger, hate, fear, ect. If it gets the heart pumping, a spirit is likely to appear." Okami continued. "Basically, the 'Wolf Spirit' is pure wolf instinct. It's like being stuck in a tight situation and then getting an adrenaline rush that will get you out of anything."
"Wolf Spirits are gentle beings, they help guide and protect their faunus. They are also connected to the faunus' aura so that way even if the faunus ignores the spirit's help the spirit can activate their semblance in extreme emergencies." Ai finished.
"Having a Wolf Spirit is supposed to be a big deal back in the village because the faunuses that do get them are considered to be the greatest in all of the village's history and play a key roll in a prophecy." Okami stated. "My father had a Wolf Spirit and he defended the village countless times, the people saw him as a hero even after he confessed that he was my father."
"Wait… If the Wolf Spirits are peaceful, then why does Kira want to take control of Okami and kill everything?" Weiss asked.
"Okami didn't have anyone unlock her aura; it was something she did on her own." Ai relied. "Unlocking your own aura already makes it dangerous, but Okami unlocked her aura when she was attacked in a village fire. And also, Okami was raised by wolves so she should have gotten a spirit as soon as her aura was unlocked. So unlocking her aura and exposing it to so much negative emotions and violence must have affected her Wolf Spirit."
Team RWBY nodded showing that they now understood what was going on.
Ai turned back to Okami and asked, "Do you know what happened right before you noticed something was off?"
Okami thought about it for a while until she remembered something. "Yeah, there were a bunch of beowolves and one of them was about to swipe at Yang so I ran and took the attack, I didn't have my armor on so I started bleeding. After that I tried to use a small amount of aura but nothing happened, I tried using a larger amount and it turned violent and I lost control… That was two weeks ago."
Ai looked at Okami curiously. "Were the beowolves different from others in any way?"
"Yeah, they had claw marks on random places of their body. They appeared to be claw marks, but the marks themselves looked like burns, just like my scar on my back."
Ai was thinking so hard that everyone in the room could have sworn they saw gears turning. Finally, Ai snapped her head up and spoke. "Okami, take off your armor and shirt."
Okami was too tired to argue, so she did what Ai said. Okami stood up and turned her back to Ai and RWBY, then she undid her armor and slid her shirt off over her head. Luckily, Okami was wearing a bra and had her chest wrapped otherwise she would have been really embarrassed.
"Okami, please face us." Ai commanded.
Okami did just that, however, when Okami faced them everybody gasped.
Blake leaned over to Yang and they started whispering but Okami was able to hear them.
"Where exactly did that beowolf strike her?" Blake asked.
"The top left of her abdomen all the way across to her right hip." Yang relied.
"What? What's wrong?" Okami asked, she didn't understand why her friends were acting the way they were.
Ruby pointed at Okami's abdomen. "Okami, how the hell did you not notice that?!"
Okami looked at where Ruby was pointing at and it was her turn to gasp. "When the fuck did this show up?!"
Going from the top left of Okami's abdomen across to her right hip were what appeared to be four claw marks but if you look close enough they were burns. The markings were the same as the scar on her back.
Ai carefully examined the burns and came to a conclusion. "The marks are exactly the same as the scar on your back, this isn't a coincidence. Someone or something is after you."
"Great, now my friends are in even bigger trouble…"
Okami walked over to one of her shelves and grabbed the letter she received from Tsume and tossed it over to Weiss. "Please read that out loud."
Weiss opened the letter and read in a loud clear tone. When Weiss was done reading, everyone was stunned. Okami got back up and took the letter from Weiss and tucked it into her pocket.
"I replied back to this letter today, I told my sister that I will be coming home two months from now." Okami said calmly. "I'm way too dangerous for you guys to be around."
This statement earned a "WHAT?!" from everyone in the room. Team RWBY begged and pleaded to Okami telling her to stay, until Ai spoke up.
"You can't go back." Ai said flatly.
Okami sighed before she spoke. "First you report me an-"
"I didn't report you." Ai interrupted.
"Prove it." Okami spat.
"Okay." Ai said in almost a cheery tone.
Okami looked up and saw Ai taking confident strides toward her. Okami tried to back away but Ai grabbed her arms. Ai went and gently rubbed her nose against Okami's causing her to turn a dark shade of red.
"Are they rubbing noses?" Ruby asked.
"It must be a wolf thing." Blake replied.
"This is something wolves do only to the wolf they want to spend the rest of their life with…"
Ai pulled herself back and looked deeply into Okami's eyes. "Would I banish someone when I feel this way towards them?"
"Okay, if you didn't report me then who did?" Okami asked.
"The same person who poisoned your uncle and set up that assassination attempt." Ai said in a sad tone.
"What?" Okami said raising her voice. "Who?"
"Okami," Ai said starting to cry. "'there's a devil in the church'."
Okami didn't know what she meant by that quote, but she didn't like the sound of it.
"Ai…" Okami said softly trying to calm her down. "Please, tell me who…"
Ai looked up into Okami's eyes, with tears still flowing down her face she answered Okami.
"…It was Tsume…your own sister is out for your head…"
