Writing this chapter, I realize how much I love delving into how intertwined everyone's story is, showing how much the pureblood law would have effected not only Kaname and Yuki but their lovers, their friends and family.
In all honesty though, before we begin, I have to ask are you guys still interested in this story? I would love to finally finish it as I have planned out the entire thing already but I don't know if I waited too long. I have planned on this story having at least 20 chapters that I will be posting every week along with at least 1 bonus prequel chapter… please let me know…
"Kaname. Kaname, put me down right now." The silverette pleaded for what felt like the tenth time that night as he struggled to break free from his lover's iron hold.
While on a normal day, Zero may have found the pureblood's extreme actions more humorous, the look in those garnet eyes had been of a man on the verge of breaking. Kaname had not said a word the entire time and barely acknowledged that fact that he could hear his protest. When Kaname finally let him go though, his gaze never left the ground as if he could not bear to see the swell of emotions within the hunter's wide eyes.
"Kaname, you have two seconds to tell me what is going on or so help me-" Zero was cut off as the pureblood brought their lips together in a desperate kiss.
"Zero, you know how much I love you." Kaname began, his usually seductive eyes were dull and weary, "For years I have vowed to make sure that no one could ever hurt you and now it seems that I am the one who will be hurting you the most…. Zero, in less than a month, Yuki and I are getting married."
"So that's what Aido was upset about…" Zero muttered, trying to piece together how the other vampires had been acting since dusk, "Start explaining. Now."
Kaname could hear the level of anger in his lover's voice, the fact he managed to stay relatively calm showing just how far Zero had come. He tilted his head back, wishing more than anything to hide behind his chocolate brown bangs, "Pureblood vampires have a long tradition of marrying within their own families to continue their legacies. My parents were born as pureblood siblings, betrothed to one another on the day my mother was born. The council has decided that Yuki and I must follow in their example."
"And you're just going to go along with their plans. For all the years I've known you, you've never followed any instructions that they gave you, unless it happened to be a move you had already planned to take. Is that why you're not fighting them on this, because deep down you agree with them?"
"Zero, dear please, you don't understand."
Zero was beyond furious now, his lilac eyes turning a bloody red, "No, you don't understand! Ever since we started dating I have had to deal with almost everybody telling me how it would never work out between the two of us; that a princely pureblood couldn't possibly love a loathsome ex-human. Yet I couldn't help but believe you when you said that we could spend the rest of our lives together. And now at the first sign of adversity, you are leaving me? You truly are a heartless bastard, Kaname Kuran!"
Tears were freely streaming down the hunter's pale cheeks as he turned his back to his lover and ran as fast as his legs would carry him.
Kaname, whose pureblood speed would have allowed him to catch up to the hunter in a moment, simply stood rooted in place as he watched the fleeting form of his lover. When he could no longer see him, Kaname stood there, as if he were a statue, nothing more than an unfeeling statue with its stone heart slowly breaking.
"It's a good thing tomorrow's Friday. After forty eight restless hours, I'm about ready to collapse." Takuma laughed as he entered his empty dorm room, tossing his text books onto his desk.
"Humans are so lucky that they have coffee. Perhaps I could convince Aido to create an energy drink that can actually affect vampires." The smile slowly slid off of his lips, "Not that now is the right time to ask anything of him, Aido has more important things to worry about. We all do."
There was something innately pathetic to him, that he found himself needing to speak but it did ease the tension that had been building within the blond.
Takuma hated being alone. For most of his childhood he had been by Kaname's side, spending many days sleeping over at his family's mansion where they learned how to sword fight from his father Haruka, his mother Juri fussed over them, and little Yuki tagged after them, always wanting to join their adventures. That had been before the pureblood had moved into Ichijo Manor after his parents' deaths. Despite his grandfather's less than noble reasons for inviting Kaname to stay with them, Takuma had enjoyed sharing his room with the brunette.
Then of course, they had come to Cross Academy and Kaname had to take his place as the head of the Night Class, leaving Takuma on his own. The blonde moved into the hall of dorms that the group of nobles who had grown the most loyal to the pureblood including a set of young models. Not much had been known about Senri Shiki at the time and Kaname himself had asked Takuma to keep an eye on him, revealing that he and the newcomer where actually cousins by blood. Yet when it came time to meet him, Takuma found himself instantly drawn to the silent brunette.
Not much had changed since then, the pull only growing stronger with each passing year. Sure, Takuma knew Shiki considered him to be his closest friend besides Rima but their relationship never went past that. Perhaps it was due to his own fear that friendship was the only thing Shiki wanted from him. Part of Takuma was truly afraid of losing him, that the brunette would reject him if he knew the full extent of what he felt. Then again look at what everyone else was dealing with even after finding love.
Takuma's half of the room was relatively neat, everything having its own little place as the blonde was afraid of losing something if it did not go back where it belonged. Maybe it seemed a bit silly but he still never found that one knit sweater he used to love to wear. Which was a shame, it had been so comfortable. Shiki's side however was an interesting contrast where all of his things had their own place too but they were placed in an unconventional system that only he, and to an extent Takuma, understood. His books were laid onto of a dresser instead of his desk so he had more room for the magazine collages he liked to make and his shoes rested by the door so he could pad around the room barefoot. There was even a box of half eaten pocky still peeking out from under his pillow for noon snacking.
"I miss you, Shiki." He said to the empty bed, "There's so much I want to talk with you about."
Shiki's bed. It looked so welcoming, so inviting. Takuma tried to think, how long did the brunette say he would be gone? Well, he had packed a bag to take with him and he only did that when the shot was supposed to last for more than a few days. Surely he wouldn't return before the weekend.
Shiki would never know, Takuma reasoned even as he slid under his roommate's comforter. As he lay there, he could not help but imagine the plush material tucked around his shoulders was a set of slender arms. When Shiki returned, he would have to ask where he had found such a nice comforter. Then again maybe it was because it belonged to the model that Takuma liked it so much. The sheets still smelled like him too, a heady mixture of musk and vanilla that tended to cling to Shiki even after he showered or wore cologne.
Nuzzling his head against the pillow, Takuma allowed himself a tiny smile as he drifted to sleep, "I love you, Senri and when you get back, I will finally tell you so."
As he walked into his dorm, Aido let out the sigh he had not realized he had been holding in. He had finally been able to escape from Kain's concerned watch, with some help from Ruka who dragged the redhead back to the room they shared. Aido knew his cousin was only trying to help but he was on the verge of smothering him.
"How was class, dear?"
"Yuki, what are you still doing up?" The blonde could not hide the pain in his smile as the young pureblood wrapped her arms around him, "Don't you and Sayori have class soon?"
"We do, I just couldn't sleep. Yori tried to stay up with me but she fell asleep about an hour ago. I told her you would see her before you went to bed." Yuki perched on the edge of the king sized bed they all shared, stroking the hair off of the girl's face.
Aido smiled fondly at their sleeping lover, "Have you noticed that Sayori has been more tired lately? I hope she is not catching a cold."
"Hanabusa, I believe she is pregnant."
"Are you sure?"
"We've been roommates for years, honey, and Yori has never been late before."
"Late?"
"By almost a month… her period." Yuki smiled at the confusion on her lover's face, "Honestly Hanabusa, you're in a relationship with two women and you still not used to our monthly issues."
"I knew that, I just wanted to give you two your privacy which is not the easiest thing for a vampire to do when blood is involved." Aido's face was beet red by the time he finished his protest.
"Well, I think it is sweet that you at least try but please tell me you'll be more attentive of Yori's body when the baby starts to show." There was something comforting in teasing the blonde for Yuki as she knew just what flustered him.
"There are so many changes coming for us. I just hope Sayori does not feel overwhelmed." Aido joined the pureblood on the bed, his wide blue eyes flicking between his two lovers, "We still haven't told her…"
Yuki's face hardened, the intensity rivaling that of her older brother's. "As you said there are so many changes, our future far from certain anymore. You have the advantage of growing up knowing the expectations our vampire culture dictates, the same ones I am trying my best to learn, but Yori has still not been exposed to our world. Perhaps it has a mistake to shelter her."
"We are more than enough to protect her." The blonde had taken back by the seriousness in her voice, Yuki normally being the most carefree of the trio.
"When Kaname awakened me, he warned me of the dangers of the vampire world, the dangers we are putting Yori in. Hanabusa, it would be all too easy for someone to take her from us."
"What do you think we should do?"
"After we tell her about the marriage, I think we need to discuss the possibility of turning Yori into one of us."
