Chapter 10
Kira approached the red light district, looking for her assignment. She was slightly irritated at the thought of convincing the self-proclaimed super pervert, to train her. But this was a Mission, and back to back failure is not tolerated by their Sensei. It was then that she saw Jiraiya walking towards her general direction.
"Jiraiya." She stated, by way of greeting, when she saw him. Jiraiya smiled at the Kunoichi in front of him. They stood opposite each other, neither backing down.
"Ah Natsuko, or should I say Kira? It's nice to finally meet you." Jiraiya exclaimed, grin stretching across his face. "What can I do for you?" He asked, feigning ignorance.
"You know who I am, so I won't beat around the bush. I am in the finals of the Chunin Exams, and I need to be strong enough to beat your student." She stated. Here Jiraiya's face dropped.
"I won't tell you any of his skills. That you will have to find out for yourself." Jiraiya stated before continuing. "Talk to him, I'm pretty sure he'd be eager to assist. Now I'm off." Jiraiya stated before turning into a large plush frog.
Kira's irritation grew at this abject humiliation. She hadn't even asked her question. The stupid perv just jumped to conclusions. "Fine." She stated before closing her eyes. She caught the Sanin's Chakra trail and followed it. She wasn't surprised when it led her to the Hokage's Tower. "Now to wait." She said to herself.
Naruto approached his sister as she was waiting for Jiraiya. "I heard that you wanted to speak to me." He stated, looking directly at her. She had not felt his presence until the last second. If he was an enemy, she may have been killed.
"That was a misunderstanding." Kira stated, ignoring Naruto's presence altogether. It was an awkward silence before Naruto broke it again.
"I'm sorry." He simply stated. She looked at him, and noted that his demeanour seemed less exuberant than before.
"Don't be. I'm a Kunoichi. My ties are to the Village. I would have done the same, if the roles were reversed." She stated, before turning back to the Hokage Tower.
"I only found out about you by chance. I was in Nami no Kuni and heard the stories. That was roughly three months passed." He stated, knowing how hopeless he sounded. "I was sincere when I said I'd assist you with anything, and that I'm here for you." He continued, hoping to make amends.
At this, a plan started formulating in Kira's mind. She looked at Naruto, then at the Hokage's Tower. "Train me." She simply stated. Naruto was taken aback by the statement, and didn't know how to respond. "I will win my match against Sai and then face off against you in the Chunin finals. I have no delusion that you are better, but that won't stop me from getting stronger." Kira finished.
This was like a dream come true for Naruto. He really wanted to make a connection with his sister, knowing she was the important person his parents left behind. "Will do," He stated, smile evident on his face.
"One more thing." She continued. "Jiraiya is to train me as well." She concluded before disappearing in a swirl of leaves. Naruto was left with an 'O' look on his face. She wanted to be trained by the perve as well.
"I guess." Naruto stated to himself. He turned away from the Hokage Tower.
He had noticed that the Hokage was looking intently at them, but didn't want to give him the time of day. With that he disappeared with the breeze once more.
Naruto regarded his sister. He couldn't believe the month he had spent with her. It was like a dream. She didn't get personal, and trained harder than he thought anyone could possibly train. She was a master of the Shadow Clone, and Naruto could see why. Her stamina was impressive. She knew a few Wind Jutsu and was a powerhouse fighter. No wonder she dropped him when they had first met.
He had kept his word and trained her. He had also gotten Jiraiya involved, with some convincing. Naturally the perv was his usual self, trying to get Kira to like his pervy nature. She had hurt him more than once, especially when she found him trying to peak on her. It took Naruto quite some time to calm her down.
As recompense, Jiraiya gave her the Toad Summoning and Naruto taught her their fathers' jutsu.
"Tomorrow we may be enemies." Naruto stated before adding. "In the arena of course." He scratched the back of his head with a nervous laugh. Kira didn't budge. The only emotion she truly showed was anger. Only once had Naruto felt her vulnerability, and that was in the Forest of Death.
Kira turned and walked away, before Naruto could get another word in. "Thank you." She whispered before disappearing. Naruto smiled, happy at finally mending bridges.
He decided to celebrate and left for his favourite Ramen place.
On the way there, he felt the presence of someone familiar. "Oh no." He said to himself more than anyone.
"What's a matter Fishcake? No time for an old friend." Came the sassy voice from the woods. It was near dusk and Naruto was extremely tired.
"What are you doing here?" He asked the surrounding forest.
"What, no friendly hello?" The voice asked.
"Not after what happened the last time." He exclaimed, looking directly at her. With the game up she decided to walk onto the path that Naruto was on.
"I told you I was sorry, but a Mission is a Mission." She exclaimed, smirking at her soon to be prey.
"What are you doing here Yugito?" Naruto asked, slightly on edge.
"Come to see the exams of course. I heard there was this blind Shinobi, who is also the apprentice of Jiraiya, participating. I just had to see for myself." She exclaimed. Naruto groaned at that. His reputation, which he built up over the years, has just been flushed down the drain.
Yugito sauntered up to Naruto and pecked him on the lips.
"What are you really doing here?" Naruto asked once more.
"You know what I want." She stated, kissing Naruto on the lips once more. This kiss was one filled with passion and Naruto returned it just as eagerly. "Your place or mine." Yugito whispered, nibbling gently on Naruto's ears and then on his neck.
"Yours." Naruto responded before he and Yugito disappeared from sight.
"Report." Danzo stated, looking at the three Nin in front of him. He wanted to see if their Missions were successful this time around. Kira decided to go first.
"I have learned the Toad Summoning and been trained under Jiraiya and Naruto for the past month." Kira stated. Danzo's eye narrowed slightly, looking at the Kunoichi in front of him.
"Your mission was to get trained by Jiraiya, not once did I mention Naruto." Danzo intoned, obviously angry with the revelation. Kira's jaw clenched tighter.
Taking a sip of tea to calm his rising anger, Danzo continued. "You have done well in completing your mission. Though next time, stick to script. I don't care if you are related by blood." Danzo continued once more. "What else have you learned?" He asked, much to the annoyance of Kira.
"My Father's Jutsu." She stated, looking into the lone eye of Danzo. He could see the anger she had there, finding out whom her parents were from her brother.
"So it seems." Danzo simply responded, moving on to Sai.
"I stopped an attempted assassination. The Suna Jinchuriki tried to end the life of his opponent whilst in the hospital. He walked right in to his room and attempted to kill him." Sai stated, voice monotonic in nature. "I sent word to his Sensei and he arrived in time to stop the assassination attempt." Sai continued. "The young Nara was also checking in on Lee, though I do not know of their connection." Sai concluded.
Danzo was in deep thought for a few seconds, before nodding towards the last Nin. "I'm afraid that Uchiha Sasuke is still outside of the Village with Hatake. He won't be back till tomorrow, most likely when the exams are being held. His training is progressing smoothly and he should be able to complete his Mission tomorrow." The unknown shinobi stated before disappearing.
"This war will commence tomorrow. During that time, if Sasuke is unsuccessful, you are to eliminate the Jinchuriki of Suna. If its siblings get in the way, they are also to be eliminated." Danzo stated, looking at his students. "That is your mission, failure will not be tolerated." Danzo concluded, dismissing the two.
"Hai Sensei." They chorused before disappearing.
"The exams are about to begin soon." The new proctor, Shiranui Genma, announced to the contestants on the ground.
"What the… Where's Naruto?" Shiho asked herself, looking around frantically. She had spent the past month working in the Cryptology Department, and didn't really train for the upcoming matches. She turned to Kira with a questioning look.
"Look around. Every eye is on you. Act like Shinobi." Genma stated, noting how some of the participants weren't fully paying attention. At this, Shiho straightened, her previous thoughts of Naruto gone.
Naruto awoke from his slumber. He recalled the previous night and tried to move. Finding himself tied to the bed, his smirk dropped into a frown. "'So the games begin'. Hmph now I know what she meant." Naruto said out loud.
The wind was on him in a second and the chains and rope holding him in place fell away. Naruto located his sword, but couldn't find his clothes anywhere. "Too cruel Yugito, too cruel." He said to himself as he disappeared with the wind.
"Welcome all to the Chunin Selection Exams." The Hokage exclaimed, causing a hush to fall upon the crowd. "There are twelve participants who are vying for the chance to make Chunin. Please sit back and enjoy the matches." The Hokage concluded, taking his seat next to his fellow Kage.
"The first match is between Uzumaki Naruto and Hyuuga Neji." Genma announced. Neji remained in the arena as the rest of the contestants left to the contestant box.
Shiho was still fretting over Naruto when she left for the box. She looked at Neji one last time, hoping that Naruto wouldn't disappoint.
"Uzumaki Naruto, please come to the arena." Genma stated once more, looking about the contestants.
"Start the match." Someone in the crowd shouted.
"Get on with it." Someone else exclaimed.
"Looks like fate has handed me a victory." Neji stated, crossing his arms over his chest and smirking. At that instant, a huge gust of wind went through the whole stadium, kicking up a dust storm.
In the middle of the ring, standing casually opposite his opponent was Naruto. Neji had covered his eyes, but opened them as soon as the wind stopped. Genma was chewing on his senbon as the contestants stood staring intently at each other.
Neji was slightly put off by Naruto's stare, and couldn't get how he knew exactly where he was.
"First match of the Chunin Exams Final. Uzumaki Naruto versus Hyuuga Neji." Genma stated, much to the cheers of the crowd. "Rules are the same as in the preliminary, if I think there is a winner, I will stop the match. Is that clear?" Genma asked, getting nods from both of his opponents. "Begin." He stated before jumping away.
"So you decide to show up late?" Neji asked.
"The hero always shows up at the last second." Naruto responded, smirking at Neji. Neji got into his fighting stance while activating his eyes. "A question before we begin." Naruto continued before Neji could attack. Neji remained in his place and nodded his head in consent. "Do you think you are Chunin material?" Naruto asked. Neji was uncertain if he 'saw' his nod, or continued speaking without stopping. The look on Neji's face morphed to anger. "I only ask because I want an honest opinion of yourself." Naruto continued.
"I don't intend to lose this match. Nor the next." Neji stated, about to charge at Naruto.
"Another question." Naruto stated. He continued before Neji could reply. "Why do you want to defy the Main Branch?" Naruto asked. He could feel Neji's temper close to boiling over. "I mean, you tore apart the Heiress to the Hyuuga clan, all so that you could make Chunin." Naruto continued.
"What would you know about our clan?" Neji asked. "You are just some blind fool." He continued, much to the annoyance of the crowd.
"I see. I guess that you are superior to the members of the Main Branch?" Naruto asked, face morphing into one ready to fight. "Last question Hyuuga-San. How much do you want to lose by?" He asked, setting Neji's temper over the edge.
At the question, Neji dashed towards Naruto, willing to end the match before it even begins. He launched a strike, open-palmed, straight into Naruto's chest.
Naruto disappeared into a poof of smoke. At that same instance, two more Naruto's appeared. Neji repeated his motion and destroyed the two Naruto's in front of him. In their place popped up another four Naruto's. Neji jumped back at this time and observed his opponent with his Byakugan. He couldn't distinguish between each clone, nor could he find the real Naruto. He had felt it the first time, and the second was the same. His palm hit, but it's as if he was hitting pure air.
"You won't win this match. I can see through you." All the Naruto's stated at once. This caused a chill to run up Neji's spine, as all the Naruto's where looking directly at him.
"I admit, I thought you being blind would inhibit your abilities. I see that was a mistake." Neji stated. "You are obviously stronger than you let on." He continued. "Let me ask you a question, Uzumaki-san." At this, Naruto's interest piqued. He nodded his consent. "How does it feel being an older brother to someone that hates you?" He asked. Neji saw the subtle changes come over his opponents. It was barely visible, but his Byakugan picked it up.
The next thing Neji saw, was the four Naruto's rushing towards him at a speed which he could hardly follow. At the last instant, when the four fists collided with him, Neji began to release chakra from his pores. "Rotation," He exclaimed before destroying three of the four Naruto's, whilst the other went flying.
"You are in my range." Neji continued, changing his stance, just as Naruto slowly rose to his feet. "Eight trigrams, Sixty-Four palms." Neji stated before attacking. "Two Palm, Four Palm, Eight Palm, Sixteen Palm, Thirty-Two Palm, Sixty-Four Palm." Neji exclaimed, dropping his opponent in a heap. "The match is over." Neji said to the proctor. He was about to walk away, when he heard clapping. He looked back at Naruto, who sat on the ground, clapping at Neji. When the clapping stopped, Naruto disappeared in a poof of smoke, leaving nothing but a strand of hair in its place.
Neji looked around frantically, trying to find Naruto. He expanded his Byakugan field range, and slowly looked up. Everyone followed his gaze and saw someone floating above the arena. The person started descending, and stood opposite Neji. No-one could believe their eyes. Naruto just floated casually to the arena floor.
"I do congratulate your… victory, Hyuuga-San." Naruto stated, before continuing. "And I am sorry that I had Clones fight you." Naruto exclaimed, bowing his head in an apologetic manner. "I sometimes believe that my Clones have a personality of their own. But the questions they asked, still need answering." At this Naruto disappeared from sight and smashed Neji across the face, before reappearing back at his original place. The crowd had a hard time following his movement, and wondered why Neji was on the ground.
The Hokage, and the Kazekage both registered the movement. Even some of the elite ninja saw how quick Naruto was.
Neji slowly rose to his feet, rubbing his jaw. He had barely registered the movement, and wondered how someone like 'him' could be so strong. Deactivating his Byakugan, he looked at Genma. "Proctor, I wish to forfeit." He stated, knowing that he stood no chance against someone whose speed was on par with and maybe even surpassing that of his Sensei.
The crowd was stunned silent, wondering what bought this change on. Just as the silence sat for a moment longer, some clapped, some cheered, some did both and a few were booing. It was an interesting turn of events.
"Hyuuga-San. A little advice, from one outsider to the next. Don't cut yourself off from those around you. They are the ones who have your back and could be the difference between life and death." Naruto stated, before disappearing in a gust of wind. He arrived in the competitor's box.
Neji walked off, head held high. He made a beeline directly for the hospice, wandering if life could get better, as Naruto stated. He read between the lines, and knew what Naruto meant. He just didn't want to believe it.
"What took you so long?" Shiho asked Naruto in annoyance. "I was thinking that you may not have made it."
"Just got lost on the road of life." Naruto responded, mind adrift slightly, as if recalling a vivid memory.
"Ooookay." Shiho stated after a moment. She looked at Naruto with a confused stare.
"Anyhow, how was the month's preparation?" Naruto asked, bringing the subject back on to Shiho.
"What preparation. Was too busy working, didn't do any training at all." Shiho stated. She dropped her voice into a whisper. "You know what's happening yeah?" She asked, looking intently at Naruto.
"Hmph. It should be fun." Naruto responded. "Next match." Naruto shouted from his position, paying no heed to Shiho.
