A,
Your daughter finishes Hogwarts today. Don't ask how I know that. It doesn't matter anyway. What is she going to do? Will she get married right out of school like you did? Like I did? Is she going to go to work? What kind of person is she? I wish I knew.
A,
Spent the day in Diagon Alley getting everything Draco needs for his first year. It was ridiculously crowded as I should have expected. I wanted to simply owl order his supplies and request that Madam Malkin send someone to the house for his measurements, but of course, we had to go to Ollivander's for his wand so there was no good reason not to visit the other shops in person.
Andi,
Oh, Andi, he's gone. Draco is off to school. It was so hard to see him off and not show how much I'm going to miss him. We must keep up appearances after all. Still, I broke down in tears as soon as we were home and I was alone. Even Lucius seemed sad though. How did you do it? How were you able to send your daughter away? Once again I wish we could talk. I wish I had my big sister to lean on and give me advice. I can't ask any of my contemporaries. That simply wouldn't do. You probably wouldn't talk to me even if I did contact you and I can't blame you for that. It was one thing when I was living at home and under Mother and Father's eyes, once I was married and moved out I lost that reason of their control. Contacting you during the war would have wound up with all of us tortured or dead. After these past ten years, no I have no excuse and yet I still can't bring myself to do it. I'll just keep wishing I could.
A,
Well, no surprise Draco has followed the family and is in Slytherin. I worry about him sometimes. He's already got the Crabbe and Goyle boys following him everywhere acting as his minions. I know it's good for him to have people around him but those two boys aren't very intelligent. I know that sounds horrible but they're rather dim. I wish he'd spend more time with the Nott boy and with Blaise Zabini. I'll have to invite them over at Christmas for our annual Yule Ball.
A,
Draco is in a tizzy. Lucius and I have gotten about a dozen letters from him in the past two days. It seems the Potter boy has been allowed a broom and chosen as part of the Gryffindor Quidditch team. I'm not sure if he's more angry that he doesn't get to do the same or if it's that he's just jealous. Lucius is about to go to the board of governors and complain, which seems a waste to me but who can stop him?
A,
Nothing bad ever happened while any of us were at Hogwarts. I don't recall hearing anything bad since, while your daughter was there. Why is it a troll manages to get into the dungeons when Draco is there? And they sent the students to their dorms. Slytherin is in the dungeons. Dumbledore just hates Slytherin. He put our children at risk.
A,
Christmas, I haven't enjoyed a Christmas so much since the first year Draco was old enough to really understand what was happening. It was so wonderful to pick him up at the station and then bring him home to start decorating the tree. He had plenty to say about school, mostly complaints about the Potter boy, and his friends, specifically the Weasley boy and some Muggleborn girl. I just let him talk and then redirected the conversation to Christmas and what he was wanting. Of course, he wanted a broom and Lucius had already bought him a top-of-the-line broom.
A,
I think it was harder to send Draco back for the second term than the first. Was that how it felt for you? I wonder if our parents felt that way. I don't remember them being upset at all when you and Bella went off to school. Maybe it was just because they still had me at home, or maybe our parents just didn't feel the same way about us as I do about my son.
A,
I know your daughter is no longer at Hogwarts and I wonder if you heard about what happened. The new DADA teacher apparently went crazy and tried to steal something. The Potter boy stopped him. Lucius is in a state. He's stomping around the Manor and yelling at Draco almost hourly because the Muggle-born girl, Granger, has better scores than Draco. I don't understand how that's possible. Lucius has been instructing Draco in magic and history for years. How is it a girl can come from the Muggle world and outscore him? Lucius is sure that it's because Draco didn't try hard enough but he has excellent marks. He might be spending too much time helping Crabbe and Goyle but otherwise, I don't know. Lucius has set him a schedule to study over the summer. He's already purchased all of the books he thinks Draco will need for next year. I don't remember who he spoke to but he got a second-year list from someone. We're still planning a trip to France though so we should all be able to relax some.
