Late. Once again the almighty nerd of Fairy Tail High is once again, late. It's not like anyone would care though. According to everyone, Lucy Heartfilia (me) has no friends. Which, unfortunately, is true. Anyone who would care would be the teachers, who wouldn't want their three-times award winning Mathlete student to miss any precious class time. The fact that I have no friends doesn't really bother me much though, just that I'm lonely sometimes. People would always be jealous of me and they would shun me away when I try to talk to them." There goes the nerd," they would say.
Kindergarten was the only grade people would talk to me. That was before they found out that I was smarter than them. Then they started to act like suck ups in first grade. And here we are ten years later with no change.
It's not like I like being the smart one, I thought as I hurried to grab my backpack. Being harass in the hallways, being picked on constantly. To them it's like I don't have feelings. Like I'm a robot that's forced to live with these ungrateful humans. Unable to fit in. Isolated. Alone.
I opened the door and rushed out. As soon as I locked the door I ran as fast as I could to the start of another dreaded school day.
When I got to school I saw that there was a commotion. All the people there were huddled around about 5 new students. Great, I thought, more people to harass me. I ignored them and went to class. There's no point in meeting them. They're probably like all the others.
I plopped into my seat next to the window. Looking outside always calms my nerves. I know what you're thinking. Doesn't a nerd usually sit in the front of the class? Well I not a regular nerd. I have no intention to sit at the front of the class endure an hour of classmates taunting me. I also have no intention of listening to the lectures my teachers give, because I know all of them already. To be honest they're quite boring if you ask me. That's why I like to look outside and daydream. If a teacher calls on me I would just answer the question and go right back to staring out the window. The teachers are quite used to this, so they don't call on me much knowing that I know all the answers.
I was observing the trees outside the school when some of the new students walked in. The one that caught my eye the most was the guy in the front. Let me say that in my lifetime I have never saw anyone with pink hair. Well I guess today is my lucky day. The boy have pink hair with a onyx eyes, he had a crazed smile with sharp canine teeth. Instead of the usual tie for boys he had a scarf wrapped around his neck. Behind him only came more craziness. There was a black haired boy who had no shirt on (a pervert, no doubt), a scarlet haired, stern looking girl, a petite blue haired girl with glasses, and a heavily pierced boy with long, spiked, black hair. The boys looked like delinquents.
"Class we have new students today," Mr. Macao said. "Say hello to Natsu, Gray, Erza, Levy, and, Gajeel."
The pink-haired boy, Natsu, looked excited while the others just calmly sat down in their assigned seats. The girls, Erza and Levy, both sat behind me while the two boys, Gray and Gajeel, sat next to each of them. Natsu, surprisingly, sat next to me.
"Hi," he held out his hand. "The name's Natsu Dragneel, what's yours?"
I was stunned for a moment staring at his hand. No one has ever been this nice to me.
"M-my name is Lucy," I awkwardly shook his hand. "L-Lucy Heartfilia."
"Lucy, huh?" he stated. "What a pretty name." My heart stopped. His hands were warm, a cozy kind of warm. His smile was goofy yet playful. I stared into his onyx eyes and saw kindness and laughter in them.
And that was my first mistake.
