There was only one word to desribe where Paul Sheldon was at present, and that word was HELL. For the past few months, Paul had been held here, in this bedroom, against his will.
He went to the hotel he always stayed at when writing a new book. It was in Colorado, and this book was called Fast Cars, and didn't take place in the Victorian era like the Misery books. The Misery books had been on best-seller's lists, and he would get fan letters asking when his next Misery book would be out. Little did they know that Misery's Child would be the last one. In the last one, the character of Misery Chastain, dies during childbirth. The two men in her life, Ian and Geoffrey, resolve their differences while visiting her grave site. It would be a tear-jerker for sure.
The reason Paul had killed her off was because he knew he would write her forever if he didn't, and he was getting tired of it. To celebrate finishing Fast Cars, Paul had decided instead of going to the airport and taking a plane back to New York, he would get in his car and drive to LA, or maybe Vegas. He felt he deserved it. Of course, Paul had been drinking quite a bit, and had lost control of the car. It turned over and ended up in an embankment. A mixture of booze, and a bad snowstorm. If Annie Wilkes hadn't been there to pull him out of the car, he would surely freeze to death. Annie had given him mouth-to-mouth and taken him back to his house. It turns out she was a nurse, and had just the right stuff to help him heal. Her reasoning for him not being in the hospital was because the blizzard was too strong.
Paul could tell almost instantly that the woman who saved his life and was now looking out for him, was crazy. Very crazy. When she finished reading the last Misery book, she had come into his room, beyond furious. Paul thought she might kill him at that moment, but she didn't. She took off.
Now, Paul sit here, at the typewriter she bought for him, writing Misery's Return. He had managed to escape his room while she was out at the store, but unfortunately, she fixed it to where he wouldn't be able to call anybody, and there was no way he would be able to get help outside. They were pretty isolated out here.
When Annie forced Paul to burn his manuscript of Fast Cars, it had been one of the most devastating moments in his life. He had poured his heart and soul into that story, and the crazy bitch made him burn it because she hated the profanity. Of course, she had the right to her opinion. Nobody forced her to read it or like it, but to actually make him destroy it. Oh, how he hated this woman. Never in his entire life, did Paul hate anybody more than Annie Wilkes. She was sick, and basically, a rotten human being. When Paul got out the last time, he found Annie's scrapbook titled MEMORY LANE and read about all the horrible stuff she's done over the years. How she was now referred to as DRAGON LADY.
Paul had become addicted to the medication that Annie was giving him for his pain. Little orange pills called Novril. He had grown quite dependent on them, but he was willing to go through the withdrawal of it if it meant getting out of this house. She had chopped off his foot! Hobbled him because he had gotten out of his room. He was determined to get out of here. Come hell or high water, Paul Sheldon was not going to let the devil of this hell, Annie Wilkes, win.
THE END
