Two weeks had passed since the day the team found out about baby D. Everyone on the team called to see how she was doing, everyone but JJ that is. She was still mad and didn't want to talk to Pen. She wasn't upset because she understood. Spence had went back to work when his time was up. He didn't want to leave but knew he had to. Now Pen spent her days with her son alone and when the team was gone a case, she was alone for days.

D was getting bigger every day and was almost two months old now. He was a very active baby, never still unless he was asleep. Pen knew she would be in trouble when he started crawling and walking. He loved playing with the jungle gym his daddy had bought him. She had one but didn't have the heart to tell Derek that she already bought one. She let him have that.

She hadn't had any problems with Savannah since that day in the hotel parking lot but she wasn't going to let her guard down. She was sure Savannah was mad that Derek had to go there to spend any time with his son. Derek didn't like it any better but he dealt with it. He wanted to see his son and that was all that mattered to him. There were times Pen could tell that he wanted to talk to her but she avoided those situations. She didn't talk to him except for the times he called checking in on the baby.

Pen sat in the kitchen waiting for Hotch to get there. He had called and wanted to talk to her alone. He said he would come over after the guys took a lunch break. He had called ten minutes ago and said he was on his way. She didn't know what he wanted to talk about but she could guess. The knock on the door broke her thoughts. She got up to answer.

"Hotch." She said, "Come on in."

He came in and she shut the door, "Would like something to drink? We have soda, tea, water and beer."

"Tea's good."

"Let's go into the kitchen, we can talk in there."

"Where's D?"

"Napping." She said. "He'll sleep for at least two hours."

He sat down at the table and took a sip of his drink. "I need to know why you didn't come to me before you left."

"I was scared. I was afraid you would talk me into staying."

"But that's what you did anyway."

"Yes. I was in Washington for a while and then I moved in with Spence."

"You didn't have to go through all this alone."

"I know but I couldn't stay in the same place as Derek. I couldn't see him day in and day out. It was killing me little by little, the weeks I was there."

"What did he do to you?"

The tears started before she spoke the first word. She told Hotch everything that happened that night and the next morning. She told him how she felt and why she thought she had to leave. He didn't say a word but did hold her hand in comfort as she talked. The words just flowed from her mouth and he sat there and listened. When she was finished he looked at her and sighed.

"I understand a little better and I know why you think you had to leave. I still think you should have come to me at least."

"He showed you the letter."

"Yes after he read it. I told him to find you and fix what he had done."

"There was nothing for him to fix. He made his feeling very clear. He married Savannah didn't he? I knew from Spence he was going through with it. I was there. I watched him marry another woman while I was pregnant with his son."

"How is she handling all of this?"

"Not very good. She has attacked me three times. Spence wants a restraining order on her but I didn't want to do that. Derek and I have an agreement of sorts. Savannah isn't allowed anywhere near him. Derek has unlimited access to his son but only here. I know it's hard for him but it's the only way for now."

"Have you talked to Derek?"

"Not for any other reason but to talk about D. I don't want to talk to him. I don't need to talk to him. We can never go back to the way we were."

"What if he was to come to you and tell you that he was sorry and that he loved you?"

Penelope laughed. "A year ago that would have been a dream come true. Now not so much."

"Do you love Spence?"

"I do but not in the way he loves me. He told me about his feeling when I was pregnant, I couldn't believe he felt for me what I felt for Derek. Ironic isn't it? I love how he was there for me when I needed someone but he knows that I won't ever love him like I did Derek. He understands that Derek and I are connected for the rest of our lives and he's ok with that. It's a different kind of love. One that slowly turned from friendship to love. He wants to get married soon but I want to wait. I'm not waiting for Derek to come around, I just want a little time for my love for Spence grow a little more."

"Will you come back to work?"

"To the BAU? No. I couldn't. Things are already tense between Derek and Spence. I really don't feel like working. I did ok developing software that I don't need to work right away. Will I ever go back? No, that chapter of my life is over."

"We all miss you and want you to come back but I understand how you feel. They're only babies for so long and you really don't want to miss anything."

"I know."

"I'd better be going. If you ever want to come back, let me know. If you ever need to talk, I'm always here Penelope. We're family, no matter if we're all together or what."

Hotch left and Pen sat curled up on the sofa and waited for D to wake up. She thought about her conversation with Hotch. Was that really the reason that she hadn't wanted to marry Spence yet or was there another reason? She did miss working at the BAU but she knew she could never go back there. Like she told Hotch, that part of her life was over, a new chapter had begun with her son and he was all that mattered.

D was now three months old and growing like a weed. He was verbal for his age. He would let you know if was happy, sad, or mad. He threw a fit was he was mad and turned red in the face. He had a smile on his face when he was happy and would whimper when he was sad. He usually did that when Derek would leave after his visit. How her little son knew was beyond her but he usually whimpered for at least an hour after Derek left. It made her sad to see her son that way but it couldn't be helped. Derek made his choice and they all had to live with it.

They had a sort of routine now. On the days Derek didn't have a case, he spent at least two hours with his son before he went home. When he was on a case, Derek called every morning and night. When he came home, he would come and see him no matter what time it was. She let him because she knew he missed him just like she knew D missed his daddy.

JJ had yet to talk to her but she didn't let it bother her. The others on the team had come by at least three time since that day she revealed she had a son with Derek. Even Emily had started talking to her. She never brought anything up, they just took up as if nothing had happened. Emily did tell her that Derek and Spence didn't talk to each other unless it was about a case and that JJ didn't talk to either one unless it was for the same reason. They had been on a case for the last week and half and finally looked like they were about to wrap up the case.

She missed Spence but she also liked being alone. It gave her time to reflect everything that had happened. D had been cranky for the last two days but not enough to take him to the doctor. There was nothing really wrong with him except for the crankiness. She was pacing the living room with D when Spence came through the door.

"Hey Pen, what's wrong with him?"

"I don't know he's been crying on and off for the last couple of hour."

"Does he have a fever?"

"No."

"Here let me have him." Pen handed him the baby. "Hey there little man what's the matter?"

D snuggled against Spence's chest and whimpered. He rocked him and soon he fell asleep. He looked at Pen.

"You look tired. Why didn't you tell me he was like this?"

"I didn't want to worry you."

"Go take a nap and I'll get dinner started."

"No, you just got home and I know you're tired. I'll get dinner ready."

"Let me just take a quick bath and then I'll help you with dinner," he said turning with D in his arms. Oh Derek isn't coming by today. He had something he had to do. I'm going to lay him down."

Pen started getting things ready and wondered what kept Derek from seeing his son.

Derek came out the shower with a towel wrapped around his waist and went to the closet. He found what he wanted to wear and when he came out Savannah was sitting on the bed. She looked at Derek with hunger as her eyes raked over his body.

"I'm surprised you're here." she said. "I thought you would be with your son."

"I should be but I didn't want to hear you. You've been nagging about this dinner for weeks."

"How lucky that you solved your case. My parent's will be here any minute. They don't know about your son and I want to keep it that way."

She walked out the door and Derek went to get dressed. When he came down the stairs, her parents were already there. They were all laughing. Her dad saw him first.

"Derek how are you doing?"

"Mark, it's good to see you." he said shaking hands. "Celeste."

"Savannah said you just got back from a case." Celeste asked.

"I did. It was a long one. How have you been?"

"We're good. We wanted to come see you both and see how married life was. I know you've only been married a little while."

"We're still in the honeymoon stage or at least we are when Derek's home."

"No rush or anything but when are we getting grandkids?"

Savannah laughed while Derek squirmed. "We're working on that mom. Derek come help in the kitchen."

They went in to the kitchen and the whole time Savannah was mumbling under her breath. He started taking dished to the dining room. He wanted to get away from her. During dinner, Derek sat and drank wine while listening to the conversation. Savannah monopolized the entire evening. He only talked when he was asked a question or when they wanted his input. His phone started ringing and he went to answer it, Savannah giving him a dirty look.

"Morgan."

"Derek."

"Penelope what's wrong?"

"Derek, its D." she sniffles.

"What's happened?" he asked. "Why are you crying?"

"We're at the hospital. He had a high fever and wouldn't stop crying."

"What hospital are you at?"

"The children's hospital."

"Ok. I'm on the way."

"Hurry."

"I will."

Derek hung up and went for his keys, not bothering to tell Savannah anything even though she had heard what he had said.

"Derek where are you going?"

"D's in the hospital. I need to go."

"No you don't. You need to stay here. My parents are here."

"Don't start Savannah."

He was about to walk out the door when Mark asked, "Who's D?"

Derek turned to look at him. "My son."
