Savannah sat behind the wheel of a rented car and watched Penelope's apartment. Once she had the address, she watched the apartment when she had time. She became very angry every time she saw Derek walk in the door. The door opened and Savannah gripped the steering wheel. Derek came out carrying D while Penelope locked the door. They were dressed like they were going out. They went towards Derek's tuck and they drove off. She followed them and they pulled up in front of Fran's home and he hopped out. He held D as he went to the door. Derek entered and five minutes later, he came out without the baby. After they dropped the baby, they went to a restaurant to eat. She sat outside for three hours as they ate. She googled the restaurant after they were there for so long. Apparently they had dancing as well as dining. She was so angry she left and didn't wait to see where they went after that. She decided enough was enough and she was going to do something to break up the happy family for good.
After dinner and dancing, Penelope and Derek went back to his house. He fixed her a glass of wine and they sat on the couch.
"I had a wonderful time tonight."
"I did too."
He took her hand in his. "Pen what are we doing?"
"What we should have done first, dating."
"I know but I want more."
"I know you do and I think I'm ready too. Are we ready to go to the next level with you still being married to Savannah? I'll be the other woman, which she thinks I already am. She's been pretty quiet these last couple of weeks., do we really want to stir the pot."
"Pen, I'm ready, beyond ready to start a life with you and our son." He said. "My question to you is are you ready to deal with Savannah? If that baby turns out to be mine, are you ready to deal with her for the rest of our lives. She will get crazy. You know that."
"We will have to take it one day at a time, Derek." She said. "Promise me that if the baby is yours, you will try work out things with Savannah in regards to being in the baby's life. It's not her fault that her mother is crazy."
"I won't and I promise to be reasonable but I will not go back to her because of the baby."
"Are you ready for bed?"
"I'm ready for sleep."
"I know."
They went to the bedroom and he handed her the night shirt she kept there. He stripped own to his boxers and they went to bed. She laid her head on his chest while he wrapped his arms around her.
A month had gone by with Pen and Derek dating openly. Nobody had questioned them and Savannah presence was scarce. She only showed her face when she had something new to tell him about the baby. She did ask him to meet her so they could go shopping but he had said no. As always she let her anger show and stormed out of his office.
Two weeks later Derek planned a romantic weekend gateway to Virginia Beach for Pen. He was hoping to take the next step in their relationship because he couldn't handle sleeping in the same bed just holding her. They were leaving D with Fran while they were gone, who was more than happy to watch him. Sarah was coming down for the weekend to spend time with her nephew. It took Pen thirty minutes to say goodbye to her son. D was too excited to see his grandma that he didn't pay attention to his parents.
They drove down to the beach laughing and joking with bot a care in the world. They both new what this weekend meant to them but Derek knew he needed to show Pen how much he really wanted her, in his life, in his bed. Savannah's due date was approaching and he wanted their relationship to be solid when the trouble started. He didn't want Pen around when all that started but he had no choice. He knew Savannah could be ruthless in her words and demands.
The beach house Derek had rented for the weekend was a beautiful cottage set on a small private part of the beach. Pen walked through the house to the sliding glass doors and looked at the picturesque picture of the water. She loved the effort that Derek had gone to make this weekend special. She felt his arms around slide around her.
"What do you think?"
"It's a beautiful view and thank you for this weekend."
"Your welcome but you don't have to thank me. I have ulterior motives for wanting to be alone with you."
"You do, do you?"
"Yes I do."
He started kissing her neck while she pressed back into him. "Are you going to show me?"
He picked her up and took the stairs to the bedroom where they would be sleeping and showed her exactly what he meant.
Pen had called the night before to check in and was assured that everything was fine. Sarah had told Pen what their plans were for the day which included the mall and the park. Pen told Sarah to make sure D had his hat on. At the park they put D in the swings for babies and Sarah pushed him. D giggled and clapped. He loved the swings. Fran took a video and sent it to Pen and Derek. They spent close to an hour at the park and then stopped for lunch. D fell asleep on the way to the mall, so Fran put him in the stroller. They went to a couple stores that Sarah wanted to shop at for herself. They went to one of the baby stores. Fran wanted to get D an outfit because she had scheduled a portrait session next weekend. She wanted to surprise Pen and Derek with professional pictures of their son.
After the mall, they went home and we're getting the everything off of the car. D had fallen asleep again, Sarah went to unlock the door and Fran was right behind her, she wanted to drop a few bags inside the door when Sarah said the lights wouldn't turn on. She went on to check and all the lights were off. She told her to call the light company and went out to get D. Sarah heard her mother scream and she went running toward her.
"What is it momma?"
"It's the baby, he's gone."
"What?"
"He's gone. He's not in his car seat."
"Oh God." She whispered. "You left him in the car."
"Yes. He was asleep and I wanted to get the bags in the house and I was coming back out when you said the lights were out."
"Somebody took him." Sarah said.
"What have I done?" she said. "What am I going to tell Derek?"
"Momma, please call Hotch. I'm going knock on some doors."
Sarah went down the street a little bit and Fran called Hotch. "Hotchner."
"Aaron, it's Fran." She cried.
"What wrong Fran?"
"It's the baby." She sobbed. "He's gone. Someone took him."
"What?"
"He's gone."
"Have you called the police?"
"No. Sarah said to call you."
"I'll call them. I'm on the way."
Hotch had called the team and let them know what was going on. He also called the police and let them know they had a child abduction. By the time he got there, the police and the team was there. JJ walked up to him, with watery eyes.
"What do we know?"
"They had just come back from shopping and they were putting the bags inside …."
"Were was D?"
"He was asleep in the car seat."
"They left him alone."
JJ nodded. "Fran went to leave bags inside the door and was coming back to get him when Sarah said the light were out. She went in to check and sure enough they were. She said she gone inside just a couple of minutes. When she came back, the baby was gone."
"Has she talked to the police?"
"Yes. They are dusting the door and car seat for fingerprints but Hotch, I think this was planned. The breaker for the lights had been turned off manually, not by the light company."
"Where is Fran now?"
"Inside in the kitchen. She's a wreck."
Hotch went to find Pen and saw Spence and Dave near the car talking to the police. He went inside and found them in the kitchen with Emily and a detective. He was talking to Fran.
"You didn't notice anyone following you or hanging around."
"No. I didn't notice anyone. We had a good time at the park and then we stopped for lunch. We were at the mall for a few hours and then we came home."
Aaron turned to the detective. "Have you issued an Amber Alert?"
"We are just about to. We have a recent photo of the child. I understand his parents work for the FBI."
"Derek Morgan works on my team, and Penelope Garcia is a technical analysis for another team."
"I know Derek. I didn't know this was his son."
"He's about seven and half months old. Fran is Derek's mother and she was watching him for the weekend while they are at Virginia Beach." He said. "Fran have you called Derek?"
"No." She started crying.
"I know where they are staying at. Emily, you, Spence, and Dave stay here and JJ, you come with me. Penelope is going to need you."
Penelope and Derek went out for dinner and we're taking a walk along the beach, the shinning moon as their guide. Hand in hand they walked barefoot in the sand with smile on their faces.
"It's so peaceful out here." She said. "When D gets a little older, we should bring him here. He would love the beach."
"We can. You know how much he loves the water. Are you having a good time?"
"Of course. Though we only been out to dinner. We haven't left the bedroom, not even to go to the beach. Listening to the waves is nice."
"Are you complaining?"
"No."
"It's nice being away from everything, just the two of us."
"Yeah. I think we needed this weekend away but I miss D. it's the first weekend without him."
"I do too but we'll get him tomorrow. You know he's loving all the attention he's getting from momma and Sarah."
They walked back to the beach house in silence. As they got nearer, they saw a figure standing on the porch. When they got closer they saw it was Hotch and JJ. Derek and Pen walked the remaining distance quickly. Derek spoke first.
"What happened?"
Hotch and JJ looked at each other. "Let's go inside." Hotch said.
Derek unlocked the door. "What happened?"
"At about four this afternoon, Fran and Sarah arrived home with D asleep. Fran stepped away just for a few minutes leaving him in the car. When she came back, he was gone."
"Gone, what do you gone?" Pen whispered.
"Someone had taken him."
"No. Please Hotch tell me this is a joke." Derek shouted.
"I wish it was. I'm sorry."
Penelope released an air piercing scream and sank to the floor. Derek caught her as she fell, her head against his chest.
"We've issued an Amber Alert. There are no witness. No one around Fran's home saw anything." JJ said. "We left Spence, Emily, and Dave with your mom and Sarah. The police are also there. They were dusting the car and car seat for prints. We'll tell you everything we know on the way but I think it's best we go back right now."
"Let me get our things together." Derek said. "Pen, Pen look at me. We will find him but we need to go back. Go with JJ while I get our things."
She didn't say anything as he handed her off to JJ. He watched as JJ steered her to the sofa. He stepped closer to Hotch.
"What are you not saying?"
"This was planned Derek. This wasn't some random abduction. Someone turned off the lights at your mother's house."
