Chapter 7…
Hokuto moved off the bed and picked up the wedding dress that was now lying on the floor. After carefully placing the dress on a chair he moved back to the bed and pulled up the sheets to cover his sleeping bride. He stared at her relaxed expression and couldn't help but be a just little sad thinking about how many times this had happened to them already. If he was a superstitious person he would have thought he was cursed.
This is really not good for my ego, he dropped down on the floor to look under the bed, remembering where Souma had said she'd left something for him. When he grabbed the little package wrapped in glittery paper and ribbons he was a little confused, thinking that this must be a wedding present. But if it was then why would Souma leave it under the bed? Why not leave it somewhere in plain sight?
He sighed, Who knows what goes on in that women's head, he thought, For that matter, who knows what goes on in any women's head. Better to just go with it. He straightened up and leaned down to plant a kiss on Chiwa's forehead, and walked out of the room carrying the package with him.
Hokuto sat in what once used to be his father's study, and stared at the contents of the box Souma had left him. When he'd first walked into the study and opened the box, he'd been flabbergasted at the sight in front of him. The little box was full of books regarding expecting couples, specifically expecting dads.
At first Hokuto had taught, why in the hell would he ever read all these books. It wasn't like he was pregnant or going to be giving birth. Considering that, it just seemed like a waste of time to be reading all these books. But the fact that there were so many books just for fathers-to-be, had intrigued him enough to start reading one of the books.
And once he'd started to read one, he hadn't been able to stop himself till now. He'd never really given pregnancy much thought, as he'd never really been in a relationship long enough to consider marriage or kids, but he'd figured that it was all pretty common sense stuff and wasn't really his business as pregnancy pretty much concerned only the women. Boy was he ever wrong.
Not only was there no such thing as common sense regarding pregnancy, because pregnant women apparently went crazy, the one thing all these books (he'd read up to now) had in common was to suggest that fathers-to-be should play an active role during the pregnancy.
He glanced at his watch and did a double take. Hokuto hadn't realized how long he'd been in the study. He'd been here for at least a few hours now. He thought about his sleeping wife and decided he might as well join her, even though it was still pretty early to be going to bed, by his standards.
He gathered up all the books, discarding the box, and placed them in his drawer, then walked out of the room turning of the light. Although he'd planned a far more exciting time for their wedding night, he decided he didn't mind Chiwa falling asleep on him that much. He'd still be able to hold his wife in his arms tonight. It really beats lying in bed alone and awake, thinking about her.
A/N: Just a heads-up, time skips are going to be coming up pretty soon.
