Rakel's eyes started to glow an odd sort of red. She looked livid. This, of course, confused me. Then, she stood and went in the direction I had just come from. "W-wait a second!" I yelp going to stop her. I grabbed her arm and suddenly felt like I was being pulled through a much too tight space. When the feeling stopped, we were standing before the door to Ravenclaw tower. "Which came first? The Phoenix or the flame?" I was about to answer but Rakel beat me to it. "Life is a circle. It has no beginning or end." the door opened and the sight before me caused me to almost scream. Father had bitten Baron and was drinking from him.

I was so angry at the sight I felt my fang come out. I hissed in fury and tackled the man away from my older brother. He looked up in shock in time to be slammed into the wall and knocked out. I left his limp figure and ran to my brother's side. His body was convulsing and switching. His eye had rolled into the back of his head. I felt tears stream down my face. Baron was becoming a vampire. I could stop it now. It was too late. I heard Father give a yell of surprise and looked up.

Rakel was holding him by the throat against the wall. When he woke up, I didn't know nor care. Baron's eye were looking at me now. He gripped my hand tightly as his skin grew paler. I pulled him quickly out of the sunlight, or started to. But, Rakel stopped me by calling from where she was. "If he turns in the sunlight he won't be hurt by it. Leave him." I nodded slowly and just sat by him sadly. Teachers rushed in and took my father away. Rakel came and sat next to me taking Baron's other hand and singing slowly and softly to the both of us.

"Come stop you're crying. It'll be alright. Just take my hand, hold it tight. I will protect you from all around you. I will be here. Don't you cry."

She looked at me sadly and continued to sing the song my mother had sung to the both of us as babies.

"For one so small, you seem so strong. My arms will hold you. Keep you safe and warm. This bond between us can't be broken. I will be here. Don't you cry. Cause you'll be in my heart. Yes, you'll be in my heart. From this day on, now and forever more. Ooh, you'll be in my heart. No matter what they say. You'll be here in my heart. Always."

As she finished the song, it seemed more like a promise to us then a lullaby. Baron smiled a bit at her before falling into a deep sleep. I knew it was done. Baron was a vampire. A day walker. I hugged him tightly and sobbed. Rakel sighed and stroked my back. "It's not your fault. At least he's still here." she tried and I nodded. She was right, he was still here. I hadn't lost my brother. If anything, I had him long then I would have before. I looked at her and saw she was a bit out of it.

Rakel pov

I couldn't help thinking back to my family the day I lost them. The worst day ever in my life. I didn't remember much about mom. But, dad and,.. brother.

Flashback

I sat in the living room sadly. My big brother came in and scooped me up. I looked up at him and smiled. "Mac!" I called happily. My childish attempt at say Mark. He smiled sadly and ran his fingers through one of my long pigtails. "Hey, little bird. Sorry to say Dad's not better just yet." Suddenly, there was a loud bang. Mark's arms tightened around me in horror. He put me down and went to leave. I started to follow him, but he turned "Stay here, Rakel. I'll be back in a moment." he shut the door behind him and I waited.

Mere seconds later, he came running back. His hand was over his mouth. He dashed into another room and I heard him getting sick. I ran after him as fast as my little feet could carry me. He was still heaving by the time I found him. He wiped his mouth and looked up at my concerned face. "Mac, icky sicky too?" I asked. He smiled and shook his head. "Nah, I just didn't... um, like what I saw. Hey, here's an idea," he said standing and flushing the toilet "let's go for a little walk, huh? Just you and me. We'll stop by the book store and pick you up something nice. Maybe stop for a treat at a candy shop. Sound good?" I nodded and clapped my hands.

We got dressed and left. As promised, we stopped at a book shop and picked me up a few book. A mid-summer's night dream and a book on how to find real magic were one of the first I picked. Then, we went to a candy store and got two pounds of my favorite watermelon and cherry jelly beans. Our last stop was at the park. Mark sat me on a bench and knelt before me. "Rakel, can you do something for your big brother?" I nodded as my mouth was full of jelly beans. "Some people are going to come here soon. I won't be here when they come. When they do, tell them were we live. Tell them mom and dad are gone and you don't have anyone else. Kay? I don't exist." I blinked in confusion and tilted my head. Tears filled his eyes and he smiled, placing a hand on my cheek and rubbing his thumb over it like he did when I was a baby to put me to sleep. "I'll come back when you're ready, little bird. Until then, you are Rakel Shade. Orphan, tough girl, tom boy, and sweet heart."

When I woke up, Mark was gone. I was still on the bench and starting to get scared. I started to cry, not knowing what else to do. After a few moments, a man in blue came over and asked where my parents were. I told him what mark told me to say.

Wales, England.

A boy with choppy black hair sat back in his chair at a local cafe. His burning red eyes hidden behind a pair of dark shades. He was reading an odd news paper. Odd because the images on it were moving. He turned the page and suddenly sat up straighter. The head lines read that a mass murderer was on the loose and spotted near Hogwarts. After doing a bit of thinking he suddenly looked terrified. He dropped a fast tip on his table and ran from the cafe. In his haste, he didn't see a small photo fall out of his pocket. The waitress picked it up and smiled at the cute little girl in it. She wave smiling big and here hands were in mid-clap. She had long brown hair that was up in pigtails and deep red eyes. On the back was four words. Rakel, my little bird.
