Chapter 2 -Today Starts the End-

Standing there once again Light scowled and stood with one hand on her hip. Something calmed her when she saw Cocoon crystallized. Almost like nothing else had to be done, a reminder that they were finished, done, it was complete. No focus remained, no ticking time bomb. No danger of failing to complete a mission to destroy a world. Closing her eyes Light lifted her face to the sky and took a few steadying breathes. This was crazy, why was she feeling like this again? It was stupid. Nothing else remained! There was nothing she had to do, nothing left but to live.

So why could she not believe that deep down inside? Her mind told her that it was done and to stop thinking, but her heart told her that something was near, something big was about to happen again. Why was she feeling this? It was dumb, just like how she had snapped at Serah and Snow before. Why was he irritating her again so much? Sure he had always annoyed her, but that had passed for the most part when they had saved Cocoon. Opening her aqua eyes, Light saw the blue sky above her and tried to relax her body completely.

"Light! Wait up would ya?"

Without turning Light knew who it was. Of all people Snow had to show up? She was in no mood to hear him go on about how she shouldn't have snapped at them, or how she should lighten up. Of all the people she would want to discuss this with Snow was definitely not one of them. Turning her head to the side and glancing back at him, Light kept her face emotionless. A hand was put on her shoulder and she moved immediately. Turning swiftly, she grabbed his wrist and held it in front of her, glaring up at him. Keeping his wrist in a tight grip for a second, Light then proceeded to let go and push his arm away from her.

"Why did you come after me?"

"Serah...she's worried about you Sis. Asked me to come after you, so I did. I mean...she's really worried! Why are you so angry lately?"

So Serah had asked...Light should have seen that one coming, Serah worried about her far more then she should. He had the gift of pissing her off. He had just done it effortlessly. With a scowl at him, Light felt her fingers tighten into a fist.

"That's none of your damn business. Go back to Serah and leave me alone."

"I'm not leaving until you tell me just whats eating at you!"

Snow must think she didn't mean what she said. Or that she had gone soft since they weren't l'cie anymore. Right? Wrong! No way she was telling him, even if she did know what was eating at her. If anything Light had toughened up even more. She had started to turn away before he said that bit about not leaving her alone. Body stopped her movement and she stood there with her fists clenched, teeth gritted together. And he had to keep going.

"You've been like you were before lately! Its been irritating me. We were cool, and then you started this whole routine again. Whats the matter with you?"

Turning swiftly, Light didn't even hesitate before her fist shot out and connected with Snow's jaw. It gave her a moment of satisfaction to watch him fall down to the ground. If he kept up being irritating she wouldn't hesitate to hit him again. And of course he had to be stupid again. He bounced back up, righteous wrath written all over his face.

"Why the hell did yo-"

Light hit him again.

"Because I felt like it. Stop asking me and go back to your home...to Serah. Don't worry about me. You wont be seeing me for awhile now."

"Where are you going? Light! Stop this! This is crazy, whats gotten into you?"

Light looked down at him before he rose to his feet again. Where was she going? In that instant Light made up her mind. She was going to find a way to make Fang and Vanille human again. They had spent enough time in their crystal prison. They deserved to get out, to have lives. With a nod Light gestured to Cocoon crystallized in the background.

"There. I'm changing fate. I'm bringing them back."

"It cant be done Light. So stop thinking about it and come back. You'll just get yourself killed going off alone to try. I'll stop you if you try."

Light smirked at that. Snow thought he'd stop her? Yeah right. When had he ever stopped her from doing something in the past. She'd like to see him try. Turning her head, she regarded him with aqua eyes.

"Tch. Just watch me. You want to try your hand at stopping me fine. Do it. You wont stop me."

Of course he had to try it. He grabbed her wrist as she had started to turn away. Light stopped and glanced from his hand to his face.

"Light this is redi-"

"Get your hand off my arm."

"No."

Stubborn. No matter, she said yes. With a jerk down, Light broke his hold on her wrist and came up with a kick swept from the side to knock him back down. The next instant she had her gunblade out and in sword form, pointing it at his face as he lay there blinking. It had all happened in a matter of seconds.

"Go home Snow."

With that Light turned once again and walked off, sheathing her gunblade as she did so. Without a backward glance she continued walking as Snow yelled at her from behind.

"Light damn it this is crazy! You cant DO anything! Why are you doing this?"

Ignoring him, Light faced the crystal encased world and walked forward. No turning back. She was going to get Fang and Vanille back where they belonged. Alive in Gran Pulse...

The crystallized world loomed before her. Was Snow right? Was she simply going crazy? As she walked Light stared at the world she had previously called her home. What was wrong with her? But no. Light couldn't just stand by with them in their crystal prisons. She had to find out a way to get them back out. Someway, somehow. She had promised to get them out, and she would stick with her word.

Standing under the looming crystal Light kept her face void of emotion. 'I'll get you out...I promise.' But how? How was she going to keep that promise? Glancing around her, Light felt anger bubbling up within her. What was she supposed to do? What was she supposed to do next?

"Is this even possible? Damn it what did I get myself into?"

Suddenly a voice spoke out from behind her.

"Feeling despair? Good. Good. Let it take over."

What? Turning swiftly Light's eyes opened wide and she stared at the shadowy figure in front of her. No...it couldn't be. No! This wasn't possible. They had killed him. No! He couldn't be standing there in front of her. In an instant her gunblade was out and ready. Eyes changed from shock to anger and then nothing. Yet she had to say something.

"You!"

The voice came again from the shadowy figure as well as a laugh.

"Indeed..."

Hell had once come again...
