"Excuse me Miss Farron, but you need the proper clearance for this area."
Lightning paused directly in front of the man that had told her that. With a raised eyebrow, Lightning glanced over the shoulder of the man, and then back at his face. "Why do I need proper clearance?" Under her direct gaze the soldier started to squirm. In fact, he couldn't seem to look her in the face after a few moments of her scrutiny, and ended up looking down at her shoulder while he continued. "The subject has recently been very violent, and we don't want that to happen again, especially to-" Though he caught himself and stopped, Lightning's mood darkened slightly. "I can handle myself." "Oh, oh yes, of course, we know from commander Rygdea what you and your team did during the Purge.", he hurriedly tried to correct himself. "But like I said, the subject is highly dangerous right now, or a threat to be so, and we want nobody harmed."
Lightning felt like forcing the man to give in, but she also knew that probably wasn't the best idea. Instead she bolstered her patience and tried again. "Who would I get clearance from?" "What? Oh…uh…well commander Rygdea of course." "Ah, get him on the phone." Despite looking like he had swallowed his tongue, the man did attempt the best he could to discourage her. "But Miss Farron, we really don't want anyon-" "Now." Despite a mild tone, Lightning made it clear she would handle no other arguments. And so the man begrudgingly pulled out his phone and called someone. If he said that the line was busy, Lightning was going to track the commander down. Not that it would be too hard. Lightning would bet her gunblade that Rygdea was trying to seduce Fang right at the moment. Find Fang, find Rygdea.
To her surprise, the man actually seemed to have gotten a hold of him. "Sir, it's Matthias here. Miss Farron is requesting to get in to see the subject. I told her she needed the proper cleara-…I see sir. But sir, the subject is still at a period where he might become danger-…understood sir." When he hung up the phone, the man sure didn't look all that pleased – which only amused Lightning. "The Commander has given you the clearance." As he said it, the soldier stepped up to a keypad and swiped a card before typing in a passcode. Moments later the door slid open. "Tell them that Rygdea gave you the clearance and to talk to Matthias if you have any trouble." While she was walking through the door, the man caught her arm. "And be careful, if he seems violent, get out."
Without turning her gaze onto him, Lightning nodded sharply, brushed his hand off her arm and continued through the open doors. Thankfully for her, the next man gave her no trouble, just a warning before he typed his own code on the keypad of his. When the hiss of the door opening came Lightning straightened her shoulders, lifted her chin, and stepped into the stark room that housed the man she was visiting. Was he even a man? She stopped when the door hissed shut behind her, wondering for a moment if she was right in coming here. His back was turned toward her.
"Why did you come Miss Farron?" How had he known it was her? He couldn't hear anything in this white cell of his, and she hadn't made any noise to indicate who it was. Stubbornly she remained silent, as did he, until the silence was so thick it nearly felt like a sound in itself. It wouldn't be until he turned around that she spoke up. "Why?" Lightning didn't know if she should take his silence as one of meditation or avoidance, but she re-asked her question shortly after. "Why did you try to kill us again?" 'And nearly succeed.', she added to herself. He didn't turn away from her, but he certainly took his time answering. "Have you ever been a puppet Miss Farron? Wielded by a master relentless in his attack of hatred and vengeance?"
Lightning felt a surge of compassion at that. Instantly she battled it down and felt disgusted with herself. He had tried to kill her only hours before. "Barthandelus." "Indeed." Lightning sighed heavily. "Shit. What is he planning to do this time?" The shrug she got wasn't very hope filling, but it would have to do. "Vengeance causes many minds to be tainted from their hatred." Lightning furrowed her brow. "Stop talking in riddles.", she snapped out. "You won't win.", he said softly. Instantly she got angry. With a grunt, Lightning cocked her fist back and sent it sailing toward the man standing in front of her. She didn't make it. His hand came up to block her attack and curled around her fist, anchoring her there. "Let me go." As soon as she snapped the command out to him, he dropped her arm and stepped back. "We did it before." "Indeed, but you won't win if you keep pretending as if he is what he was in the past."
With furrowed eyebrows, Lightning stared at him. "What do you mean?" "I'm through speaking to you. Ask Rygdea if you want to know so badly." Despite wanting to pressure him more, Lightning realized she would get nothing more from him when he turned away to once more look at the stark white wall behind him. Signaling to the soldier in the camera that she wanted out, Lightning waited a moment until the door opened with the same hissing noise. As soon as she had rested her hand on the door to step out, his voice stopped her one more time.
"What is it you fear most Miss Farron?"
