Namimori High's Very Own Kurosaki Mafuyu
A/N: I need to re-read Oresama Sensei and Katekyo Hitman Reborn more often. So much good stuff in those two stories.
Disclaimer: I do not own any of the characters in this fanfic. That honor belongs to the mangakas of Oresama Sensei and KHR.
Chapter 3
Mafuyu watched Kyoya with narrowed eyes as he walked back towards his seat. 'Why? Why, why, why?! Why does a disciplinary committee member have to be in my class?!' Mafuyu silently fumed, completely ignoring both the teacher who had kindly brought her to class then scuttled off and her new homeroom teacher.
"Everyone, we have a new transfer student today. Give her your utmost attention."
Mafuyu took a deep breath, sank into a shallow curtsy and beamed at the class. "How do you do? I'm Kurosaki Mafuyu. Please regard me kindly for the next three years." A faint blush colored Mafuyu's cheeks and she brought her hand up to her face as if to hide her embarrassment. "It's my first time transferring to another school, so I'm a bit worried, to be honest." Mafuyu clasped both hands together and rested her cheek on her clasped hands. "But if I'm with you all, I think I can overcome everything! I'll do my best, so please support me!" Even beaming with all her might at the class, a large part of Mafuyu was wary, uncertain of her welcome.
"Welcome to Class 1, Kurosaki san!"
"Nice to meet you! Great introduction, I love it!"
Two girls near the back of the class enthusiastically welcomed Mafuyu, with the rest of the class joining in with shy smiles and quiet murmurs.
'Ah, a normal reaction! Normal people, bravo! Merci! Cheese! Pork! Curry!' Mafuyu was overwhelmed by the warm responses, fighting the urge to burst into happy tears. The sound of someone snickering could be heard behind her, but she ruthlessly shoved that information away as she gazed happily at her new classmates.
"Okay then, Kurosaki, your seat is over there, in the back." The teacher pointed to an empty seat between the two girls who had been the first to welcome her.
Turning back to the teacher, Mafuyu gave him a thumbs up and winked. "Sensei, good job! Nice!"
Mafuyu power walked over to her seat and quickly sat down. The brunette on her right turned to her and held out her hand. "I'm Miura Haru, nice to meet you, Kurosaki san! It's fine if you call me Haru chan. Can I call you Mafuyu chan?"
'An angel, a high school angel is sitting next to me! Hallelujah!' Mafuyu cradled Haru's hand with both of her own and gave her a winning smile, "Your name is so cute, as expected of a maiden so sweet. Please, do call me Mafuyu."
"Me next!" The brunette on her left raised her hand to get her attention. "I'm Sasagawa Kyoko. Can I call you Mafuyu as well? I'd love it if you called me Kyoko chan." The sweet smile on Kyoko's face was so bright, Mafuyu felt blinded by her lovely radiance.
"Ah Kyoko chan, I would be honored to hear my name on your lips! Your smile is too beautiful for words. Although it is lacking, please accept my gratitude for showing me such a wondrous smile." Mafuyu clasped Kyoko's outstretched hand against her heart in heartfelt gratitude. 'Ah, at last, my girly high school life begins!'
Haru and Kyoko giggled at Mafuyu's answers. Wiping a tear from her eye, Haru whispered, "If there's anything you don't know, feel free to ask!"
Suddenly overcome, Mafuyu nodded vigorously. "Thank you, Haru chan!" 'I must have used up at least thirty years of luck to be placed between these two angels. Sensei, you are awesome, amazing!' Mafuyu turned and saluted the teacher's back. 'This is the first time in my life to think this. Sensei, I respect you!'
Bolstered by the two lovely girls on either side of her, Mafuyu turned around to greet the classmate directly behind her... and met face to boot.
"Aaahhh?"
Mafuyu slowly looked up from the boots resting on the back of her chair to see a silver-haired delinquent glaring daggers at her.
Eyes wide, Mafuyu quickly shot back around and sat up straight, keeping her back well away from the chair. 'There are delinquents other than Hibari in this class? Damn it!' A tremor raced its way up Mafuyu's spine. 'Wait, isn't this, like, bad? Like, really, really bad? Having delinquents and a disciplinary member in the same room is just asking for trouble!' Mafuyu slumped in her seat, a weak smile on her face as she closed her eyes and let her head fall back onto the delinquent's boots. 'Let's just pretend they're not here. If they're not here, they can't start any turf wars... Turf wars cause your hair to get old. Next thing you know, it'll fall out. Don't let your hair fall out, stay cool...'
"Pssst!"
Mafuyu's head slowly turned to face the voice intruding on her stay cool speech. It was Haru. A girl wanted to whisper to her in class. This was worth even an idiot kicking the back of her head. Mafuyu shoved the boots away with a nudge of her head and put a hand up to her ear. Her smile grew watery as the last sixteen years of being avoided by girls flashed through her mind. 'This is the happiest day of my life.'
Haru seemed to mistake her tears for distress as she gave Mafuyu a sympathetic smile. "Don't worry about Gokudera kun. He looks like a delinquent, but he actually can be pretty nice at times. He's just sulking right now since Tsuna san isn't speaking to him."
Gokudera let out a low growl, "Shut your mouth, you old hag, or I'll shut it for you!"
"Hah?" Haru shot a disdainful glance at Gokudera and sniffed. "You're the one with silver hair, Mr., not me. If something this trivial sets you off, obviously, you're not fit to be Tsuna san's right hand man."
'Tsuna?' Mafuyu's eyes narrowed as she pondered the name. 'He must be this school's banchou by the sound of things...' Gokudera's enraged howl snapped Mafuyu's attention back to the situation at hand.
"You little bitch!" Gokudera lit a cigarette and pulled out three sticks of dynamite from inside his shirt. "I am the only person on this planet fit to be tenth's right-hand man!"
'Tenth? Dynamite? Oh my god, what the hell is this yakuza psycho doing with a bomb?!' Mafuyu mentally screamed, positioning herself to disable this psychopath when she felt an acute sense of danger from the front of the classroom. Acting on instinct, Mafuyu ducked just in time. Something slender and white shot past, just inches above her head and slammed directly into Gokudera, a perfect shot between the eyes. Mafuyu carefully sat up, clutching the pencil she had "picked up" off the ground as she stared at the whites of Gokudera's rolled-up eyes.
A low menacing voice rumbled from the direction the white bullet had been thrown from. "What the hell do you think you're doing?" The temperature in the class visibly dropped to below freezing. Two large hands shot out from behind Mafuyu and latched onto Gokudera and Haru's faces. "Class has already started, you idiots." Mafuyu shrank back in her seat as the demonic face of her new homeroom teacher drew closer. "Idiots that disrupt my class..." Gokudera and Haru were slowly pulled up, the teacher's grip on their heads forcing them to their feet. "...should get out."
The homeroom teacher dragged Gokudera and Haru towards the open classroom door and threw them outside. "Sit in seiza outside the door for the rest of class. If I hear you say even one word..." An audible gulp could be heard from outside.
Mafuyu's eyes darted back and forth, searching her classmates' faces for the answer to the question burning its way through her brain. 'Are you all really alright with that kind of violent teacher? Weren't teachers the kind of beings that tried to stop violence and rule breaking by yelling, screaming and wagging their fingers at bad students?!'
A flash of silver caught her eye. 'What now, is it a knife, a bazooka?!' Unnerved and slightly hysterical, Mafuyu focused all her attention on the student sitting in the farthest corner of the room... who was casually spinning a metal tonfa with one hand and staring intensely at the teacher's back.
Mafuyu slumped in her seat and let out a quiet laugh, the sound flat and harsh. 'He wants to go play too, doesn't he? I'm surprised he's holding himself back. Hibari san must be a fight maniac, even wanting to take on that kind of teacher. Aha...ha...'
Kyoya caught Mafuyu staring at him red-handed, a languid smirk working its way into the corners of his mouth as Mafuyu's face grew pale, her hands flying every which way as if she didn't know where to put them. Using his eyes to point out the scene in the doorway, Kyoya mouthed a single word for Mafuyu.
"Wow."
Mafuyu did her best to read Kyoya's lips, mimicking his facial movements in an effort to figure out what Kyoya had said to her. "Wa...hoo?" 'Hah?!'
Kyoya choked down a surprised laugh at the blatant message written across Mafuyu's face.
Kyoya's unchanged expression, that annoying little smirk, spurred Mafuyu to utilize her hidden skill – pantomiming.
'Oya? Is she putting on a show for me?' Kyoya watched as Mafuyu jabbed a finger in the teacher's direction, positioned her hands like claws in front of her and gave a silent roar. 'That's her impression of the teacher...'
Next, Mafuyu jabbed a finger at him, made an 'L' shape with her other hand and used the 'L' to frame her face, staring at the teacher's back with a smug and self-satisfied expression while waggling her eyebrows. 'That is... supposed to be me?'
Kyoya's grip on his tonfa tightened, his smile morphing into a snarl as he continued to watch Mafuyu's private show with narrowed eyes. Finally, Mafuyu pointed at Kyoya, and then lifted her hand to shade her eyes, as if she was trying to get a good look at him. Her eyes widened comically and her mouth fell open as she pretended to fall out of her chair in disbelief, resting the back of her hand against her forehead to exaggerate the effect.
After the ending act, Mafuyu stretched both hands out to Kyoya, her entire face beaming with expectation. 'How was that? Even you would have a response, right?'
A boy sitting a few seats away from Kyoya inadvertently let out a snicker. Unfortunately for him, even though he immediately covered his mouth to stifle his voice, Kyoya had heard him.
Kyoya smoothly slid out of his seat, slammed the end of one tonfa into the boy's stomach and smashed the other into the side of the boy's face. "Class will remain silent. Any disturbance will be punished."
Excluding Mafuyu, everyone in class shoved their hands against their mouths in terror, not even daring to breathe until Kyoya sat back down.
'Oh, so he can be nice after all!' Mafuyu's stupid smile was the first thing the teacher saw as he walked back into the classroom.
"Kurosaki, you look like you're in a good mood. You take Gokudera to the infirmary, he's not feeling too good."
Mafuyu pointed at herself and tilted her head in question. The teacher nodded, pointed at her, then pointed out the door. "Go."
Mafuyu saluted sharply and quickly rushed to the door.
"The infirmary is just down the hall to the left, in front of the stairs." The teacher pointed out a room with a small red and white sign hanging outside the door.
Mafuyu nodded vigorously and turned to face Gokudera. 'Wait, hasn't he already fainted?!' Foaming at the eyes, the whites of his eyes showing, Gokudera's resting place on Haru's lap may have stirred up the fires of envy in Mafuyu's heart, but Gokudera was definitely not feeling well. A small trickle of blood streamed down from a chalky white circle in the middle of Gokudera's head. 'KO! Gokudera kun has been taken out by the white bullet! May he rest in peace.'
Mafuyu clapped her hands twice and bowed to Gokudera, much to the amusement of Haru.
"He's not dead, Kurosaki, now hurry up and bring him to the infirmary already." The teacher picked Gokudera up and placed him on Mafuyu's back. "Don't dawdle and come back quickly. Really now, this guy is always causing trouble, even forcing a girl to carry him to the infirmary...'
'You were the one who knocked him out in the first place! How could you ask the small and cute me to carry this psycho? This guy is seriously heavy!' Mafuyu mentally grumbled, 'A normal girl would have collapsed the moment you placed him on her back. Even Haru chan would have been in danger since they would have fallen directly onto Haru chan's beautiful lap!'
After stomping her way over to the entrance of the school infirmary, Mafuyu slid open the door. "Hello, is anyone there?"
No answer. Mafuyu kicked the door closed behind her.
'The doctor must be out right now.' Mafuyu moved to the nearest bed and threw Gokudera off her back. A crick in her neck started to develop and she cracked her neck both ways, stretching out her arms and loudly exhaling. "That feels better."
Something rolled off the bed and stopped at Mafuyu's feet. Slowly, Mafuyu looked down to see a stick of dynamite. 'Exactly how much dynamite is this psycho carrying?'
Determined to find out, Mafuyu effortlessly picked Gokudera up by the armpits and shook him like a ragdoll. 'Ohhhh, this is amazing!' The steady rhythm of heavy sticks of dynamite hitting the ground continued for quite a white, masking the sound of the door behind her sliding open.
'I think that's all of it...' Mafuyu shook Gokudera one last time and then threw him back onto the bed. The mound of dynamite had taken over the space between the bed and privacy curtain, the top of the mound as tall as the bed itself.
Mafuyu dusted her hands on her skirt and let out a triumphant huff. "No wonder he was so heavy! How did he manage to hide all that dynamite? More like, where was he hiding it all on his body? There were even mini ones coming out of his hair!"
Mafuyu critically looked over Gokudera's body on the bed. "Maybe more will come out if I shake him by his legs..."
A shadow fell over Mafuyu just as she lifted Gokudera's legs. "Assault against an unconscious person and possession of a large quantity of dynamite..."
Before Kyoya had finished his sentence, Mafuyu dropped Gokudera and dove for the other side of the bed. A pained grunt forced its way out of Gokudera's gut as he unwittingly took the hit meant for her.
'Sorry, Gokudera kun. Since I had to carry you here, we'll call it even.' Mafuyu gave a silent prayer for Gokuderaas she dodged Kyoya's barrage of attacks.
"Multiple infractions are punishable by death." Kyoya's attacks grew even fiercer, an unholy gleam lighting his eyes.
Step by step, Mafuyu was pushed back until her back slammed up against the wall. The sound of someone turning over in one of the hospital beds made Mafuyu stiffen for a split second. 'Gokudera kun might wake up any second now. I can't be caught fighting, it's only the first day! Last night doesn't count. I hadn't started coming to class yet, so it definitely doesn't count. Now, how should I get out of this mess...' Mafuyu's keen eyes took in her and Kyoya's positions, the layout of the room and all possible escape routes.
A reluctant smile appeared on Kyoya's face as Mafuyu deftly deflected blow after blow while her eyes continually scanned the room. 'How interesting...'
'I can't leave through the door. I can't chance Gokudera kun waking up and seeing us fight. I'll have to leave through the window.' Mafuyu grabbed the tonfa slicing its way towards her shoulder and shoved Kyoya away with all her might.
Kyoya fell back onto the nearest bed, somersaulting over and landing into a crouch on the ground. When he looked up, Mafuyu was already gone. Kyoya immediately vaulted over the bed and looked out the open window. The smile on Kyoya's face grew even wider as he watched Mafuyu run away at full speed down below.
Without hesitation, Kyoya jumped out the window and chased after her.
A/N: Well, that chapter took a really long time... I really want to incorporate Snow's letters to Strawberry Love soon. It's going to be so much fun to write in that crazy style. ^^
Thank you to everyone that has read, reviewed, followed, or favorited this chapter. Have a wonderful day. ^^
