PEETA POV

"Would you calm down" I let out a small laugh and place my hand over Katniss' as an attempt to stop her from cracking her knuckles the way she had been for the last five minutes.

We were sitting in her car, parked in the drive-way of her house. I would be meeting her mum and sister shortly but she was, for some reason, more nervous than I was.

"Sorry," she says in a quiet murmur "I'm just kinda nervous"

"Aren't I the one who should be nervous?" I question, raising an eyebrow.

"Yeah I know, but I'ver never brought a guy home to meet my family before." Katniss admits with a weary grin.

"What about Gale? He's a guy?" I offer, an attempt to defuse the nerves audibly rising in her voice.

"That doesn't count; he's not a guy, he's just Gale." She dismisses the thought with a wave of her hand.

"Really Katniss, you don't need to be nervous, you said yourself today that it'd all be fine. Why do you all of a sudden not believe that?"

"No, I know you'll be fine, I just hadn't considered the fact that I have no idea how to do this, y'know." Katniss lets out a small sigh and begins wringing her hands together.

I can't help but let out a smile as she justifies her thoughts. This was the first time she'd introduced a guy to her mother and sister and the fact that she was worrying because she didn't know how to act whilst doing so was somewhat adorable. I let out a slight laugh and take her hand in mine, working up a reassuring smile in the process.

"Look at me," I say with a grin, "It'll be ok, the more time we spent out here worrying about what will happen, the more ideas will start floating around you head and that does not help, believe me."

"Yeah I know, you're right." she slides her keys out of the ignition and does her best to project a confident smile, but comes up a little short.

"C'mon." I take her hand after opening her door.

I can't help but smile at her; she's such an outwardly confident person yet not in an obnoxious way, and that's what drew my attention to her in the first place. Yet now, when facing something so small, she's drawn back and quiet. It was intriguing.

She leads me through her house, giving me a brief guide as we went, until we come to a halt upstairs infant of a room assume if her. I watch as Katniss goes and sits cross-legged in the middle of her bed. As I take a few steps around her room, I can feel her eyes following me. Her room is light and airy and on the window on the opposite wall sits a small window seat which lets the afternoon sunlight soak throughout the room, something I know Katniss would love. I can instantly picture her perched there in the afternoon, watching the sunset. Next to her bed sits a bedside table pilled with books. Her desk sits buried in a similar manner, and the shelves above are lined with photo frames. I smile as the frame on the side of her desk catches my eye.

I carefully pick up the frame from where it sits and shoot Katniss an inquisitive look before raising my eyebrow and letting out a smile.

"I've never seen this before." I say, with a smile. The photo is of the two of us standing together in front of the dock we had dubbed our own throughout the summer. Katniss has her arm around my waist and is looking up at me with a grin that matches my own.

"Oh yeah," she smiles, getting up off of her bed and taking a couple steps toward me, "I was meant to tell you about that."

I watch her eyes are she swiftly undoes the back of the frame and slides out another photo, identical to the one inside. She gives me a timid smile before handing me the copy and returning the frame to it's spot on her desk.

"Annie gave me these a couple weeks after we got back. She said she had a bunch printed off and thought we might like one. I put yours in here too cause I didn't want to lose it."

"I see," I smile, carefully sliding the photo into my bag for safe keeping. In all honesty, I was almost flattered that Katniss had a photo of the two of us sitting in a frame on her desk. In the time that i'd known her, I hadn't picked her as one to be particularly open about all that 'lovey-dovey' kind of stuff, so seeing that sitting there definitely put a smile on my face.

I head over toward the other side of her room and take a sit down on the padded window bench, taking a second to admire the view she'd have watching the sun rise or set.

"I bet this is nice in the evenings?" I say quietly as she takes a seat beside me.

"Oh yeah, it's definitely a nice place to just sit and think and watch the world go by." she says, he eyes looking off into the distances. "It's nice to just sit here during a storm too, I'll have to show you sometime."

"It's a date." I smile as she takes my hand a pulls me up with her.

"C'mon, I promised Mom I'd put dinner on for her and Prim will be home soon."

A few minutes later we find ourselves in the kitchen. My eyes follow Katniss as she takes a saucepan from a cupboard and fills it with water before setting it on the stove to boil. She takes from pasta form another cupboard and tosses it into the water once its boiling, puts the lid on and turns to me with a smile.

Katniss pulls herself up onto the bench swiftly and smiles as i take a few steps toward her. I take one of her hands in my own, my eyes downcast, with a slight smile playing on my lips.

"What?" she asks curiously, her eyebrows dipping in concentration.

"Nothing" I insist with a smile.

She narrows her eyes at me and cheekily leans away when I lean into the kiss her. "Nope," she laughs, "Not gonna kiss you 'til you tell me what you're smiling at."

"Like i said, its nothing." I tell her. I cant help but laugh a little as she feigns disinterest, staring up at the roof with a smile. She lets out a dramatic sigh and momentarily batters her eyelids at me. I hadn't seen her act this way before, it was a side i hadn't seen, but it was certainly one that made me smile.

"Fine," I give in, "I was just smiling at you, I feel like i could just watch you for ever and not get bored, y'know." i say quietly, a timid smile playing on my lips.

Katniss smiles, gently taking my face in her hands and planting a quick kiss on my lips.

"Katniss?," We hear a voice call out, "I'm home."

She shoots me a smile before quickly jumping down from her spot on the bench, only to land on my toes. Katniss sucks in a sharp breath and suppresses a giggle before giving me a somewhat cautious look.

"Oh my gosh, sorry!" she smiles before turning her head toward the doorway and calling out to her sister "We're in here, Prim!"

I watch as Katniss' younger sister enters the room, her long blonde hair flowing behind her. Doing my best to make a good first impression, I subconsciously make an effort to stand a little straighter and smile a little bigger. She gives us both a smile as she sets her things on the kitchen table before giving Katniss an expectant look.

"Hey Little Duck," Katniss says, eyeing her younger sister, "This is Peeta. Peeta, this is my little sister Primrose."

"It's nice to finally meet you, Peeta. And you can call me Prim, by the way." She smiles.

"Nice to meet you too, Prim, Katniss has told me a lot about you." I tell her with a smile.

"And, Katniss," Prime adds, giving her sister a stern look, "I'm in high school now, you can't keep calling me 'little duck' all the time."

"Sure I can," Katniss challenges her little sister, "How was your first day anyway?"

"Yeah, it was alright." She says, he tone changing a little. I place sideways to Katniss only to see her shooting Prim an odd look. I'm sure there was more to that than met the eye.

Another hour passes until Katniss' mother gets home from work. Katniss leads me through the same process of introduction with her mother as she had done with her sister while the four of us sit through dinner. Mrs. Everdeen was kind and seemed happy enough to meet me. She asked questions about school and how I spent my summer, and she seemed genuinely interested.

"So, Peeta, what are you plans once schools over?" Mrs Everdeen smiles before taking a sip of her water.

"Well, college is first on the list I guess." I tell her, returning her smile.

"What do you want to study?"

"Business … I think. My Dad would love me to run the Bakery one day, and I think I'd like that too, I mean, it's what I love I guess. My Mom thinks of it more logically and says having some kind of business knowledge behind me will help. I guess I can't do the fun stuff all the time."

Mrs Everdeen laughs "If only we could do the fun stuff all the time."

Katniss shoots me a loving smile as she stuffs off her car engine after pulling into my driveway.

"Why was I even worried?" she laughs, shaking her head a little.

"I like your family," I tell her with a smile, "Is your sister ok though? She seemed a little down after you asked her about school?"

"Yeah she's ok," Katniss sighs, "She and Gales little brother, Rory, has been hanging out a lot during the summer, and suddenly today he didn't talk to her all day, so she's a bit upset. She'll be ok though."

"You're a good sister. I wish I had a relationship with my brothers the way you and Prim do." I admit quietly. I astounded me how a family that had been teared apart still managed to seem so …together.

"Well, I'll see you in the morning." I smile, giving Katniss a quick kiss before climbing out of her car, "Love you."

"Love you too, thank you for coming tonight, it really means a lot to me." She says, her green eyes looking right into mine.

"Any time. Drive safely."
