A/N: Please note that this is of course Fan Fiction, therefore the events described would be slightly deviated from the orginal telling.
So sorry for the long wait, and as promised I will continue this (and all my other fics) till their complete, respective, and satisfying conclusion.
And nope, I in fact do not own Warcraft or anything else I write about.
Chapter 30
"The guild is in your hands till I return, try not to go easy on them," Wayne said to a fellow necromancer named Fesdin.
Wayne handed him several scrolls filled with instructions and data pertaining to the students within the guild of mages. Fesdin bowed low to the Dark Lady's champion, giving his sincere thanks for the opportunity. Conversation continued on for several more minutes until all of the finer details of the assignment were ironed out. At length, Wayne left his private office after Fesdin had long since been dismissed. Nollis opened the door as he limped past, leaning on his staff. Both were dressed in their most elaborate and grandiose robes. They carried with them everything that was needed for the long journey ahead.
Upon exiting his office, he saw the unmistakable appearance of two Deathstalkers waiting for him. They faced him standing side by side in full black assassin garb, though their hoods and face masks were down. They both bowed upon seeing him. All of their weapons were concealed within the folds of their clothes as none were visible. Seconds past with no one talking as both groups seemed to think that the other should talk first.
"So you're the escort that Varimathras sent?" Wayne said, tired of the silence.
Both Deathstalkers nodded in unison.
"Care to tell me your names?" Wayne asked.
"Our order believes it best to be secretive," rasped one of the Deathstalkers.
"Even from me?" Wayne asked suspiciously.
"From anyone who does not need to know. Just consider us unable to remember," replied the same Deathstalker.
Aggravated, Wayne decided to drop the matter and walked briskly between them. Most undead were horrible at conversation as it was so he was not very perturbed. The two assassins turned and followed, walking closely on both his left and right side. Nollis kept his eyes on both of them, not trusting either them or their guildmaster. Walking quickly through the bustling undercity as Wayne already felt behind schedule. The group headed to the main apothecary to find the last two members.
"You are both prepared to leave immediately?" Wayne asked the Deathstalkers to prevent any further time delay.
"Always," both of them replied.
Passing into the laboratory, they dodged new hazards coming in from all directions. Alchemists feverishly at work carrying vials of who-knows-what rushed by them, hardly paying them any attention. Screams from test subjects and heavy machinery echoed from the cold stone walls as work unabatedly continued on. Vats of smokey substances rose from their containers and filled the room in an ill faded green light. Wayne searched for Faranell, eventually finding him dissecting the brain of a murloc on the far side of the room.
"Ah DeLovely, I knew you would not be long," said Faranell as he straightened up and slid his facemask down. "I see you're dressed for the part."
The two shook hands before he ushered over two of his apothecaries. They hobbled over as quickly as they could, which was quite slow. Both were heavily laden with traveling packs and carrying full satchels in each hand. Under the immense weight they carried, they both hunched and seemed unable to raise up fully. Which they tried to do after bowing to Faranell and Wayne.
"Though I hate to see them go, I know it's for the greater good," said Faranell. "This is apothecary Juns and Sequil, they are the best two that I can spare. Make sure they come to no harm, would you?"
"They will be safer than they are here," mused Wayne. "But is all that baggage really necessary? They can barely stand."
"I left the choice of what to take in their hands. If it does not hinder you then I would say it is necessary," said Faranell.
"Very well, time is of the essence and I'm afraid that I've wasted too much already," said Wayne,
Bidding his farewell, the group ascended the levels of the undercity to the surface. To adventure and the unknown the six ventured towards.
