After hours of searching which yielded no results, Morgan and Emily were ready to call it quits and head to the station when Morgan got a call.
"Morgan" he answered, not looking at the display.
-It's Hotch,-
"Alright hang on, imma put you on speaker." Said Morgan before pulling the phone away from his ear and pressing the speaker button.
-we're meeting at the hotel instead of the station.
"Ok, why? I mean I get that the local police aren't going to be very cooperative but it's nothing we haven't dealt with before." Asked Morgan.
-This time is different, they won't acknowledge us and I've been given the order to go over their heads. The Secretary of State doesn't want news of human trafficking to reach national headlines. We're supposed to keep it quiet and in-house, either with or without local cooperation.
"Hotch we can't do this without the local's help, you know that. The best chance we have at catching these guys is to get a witness. Now correct me if I'm wrong but witnesses who want to come forward usually go to the police station, not a hotel." Said Prentiss.
-I would love to work with the locals but they don't want to work with us. Said Hotch.
"Well have you tried asking JJ to talk with them, she's usually pretty good at that sort of thing." Said Emily. Hotch paused to think about this before saying
-good point... Emily and Morgan heard some shuffling as Hotch turned around and asking where JJ went. Reid replied that JJ had left five minutes ago to do what Emily had suggested.
"Hey are you alright man?" asked Morgan.
"Yeah where's your head today?" asked Emily.
-Back in DC, get here as soon as you can. Answered Hotch before hanging up.
"I wonder what's up" said Morgan as he and Emily walked back towards the van.
"Who knows, maybe something to do with Jack or Beth?" asked Emily.
"Hopefully nothing serious." Said Morgan.
"He would tell us right? If it were serious." Asked Emily.
"I don't know, I hope so." Said Morgan.
"We would know if he was in trouble, wouldn't we?" asked Emily.
"We didn't know with you." Said Morgan quietly.
"That was different, I kept my past hidden from you guys, made sure that you had no idea what was going on. You guys had no idea about what went on in my past, or that I had a terrorist out to get me. Come on we should get going, it sounds like we'll be the last ones back." Said Emily before walking towards the SUV. Morgan sighed and followed.
Morgan and Prentiss arrived at the hotel half an hour later, JJ wasn't back yet and Rossi was over at the M.E.'s talking to the coroner.
"Find anything?" asked Hotch.
"Nope, nothing, hey where's Reid?" answered Emily, Morgan's head was buried in the first Harry Potter book.
"Went to find some decent coffee, has he been reading that all day?" asked Hotch, noting how Morgan was almost halfway done with the book.
"I made him leave it in the car when we got to the docks." joked Emily.
"Can he hear anything?" asked Hotch since Morgan never acknowledged anything that was said.
"Nope, watch this" said Emily before turning to Morgan.
"Hey Derek, I lied about the abortion when I was fifteen, I actually had a little girl named Lily who I gave up for adoption." Said Emily.
"That's great Princess" answered Morgan distractedly, not taking his yes off the page he was reading. Hotch smiled and gave it a try.
"Morgan, you're fired." Said Hotch seriously.
"Burgers sound good" said Morgan as Reid came into the hotel carrying 7 cups of coffee, four in one holder and three in a second stacked on top of the first.
"He's lost in the book isn't he?" asked Reid.
"Yup, so far we've told him that I didn't get the abortion and he's fired." Said Emily.
"Interesting, did you find anything suspicious down at the docks?" Reid asked Emily.
"Nope, we left the SWAT team there with orders to search every ship that either enters or leaves the docks." Said Emily.
"We can go to the station now, I smoothed everything over." Said JJ, walking up behind Reid.
"JJ you're a saint." Said Emily.
"Agreed, let's go." Said Hotch before picking up his briefcase which he had laid on the table and walking out.
"Do we know what's going on with him?" asked JJ.
"Nope." Answered Reid.
"I wish." Said JJ.
"It's not…" asked Emily, not needing to finish the question.
"No, their wedding anniversary is in December and she died in March, remember?" said JJ, Emily nodded.
"As if it were yesterday." Said Emily.
"Uh guys, he's gonna wonder why we're not following…" said Reid.
"Right, let's go." Said Emily. JJ, Emily and Reid all left the hotel, Morgan wasn't paying attention to a thing. When Emily noticed she turned around and walked back in. When she stood in front of him and took the book out of his hands Morgan snapped his head up.
"Hey!" exclaimed Morgan, Emily smirked,
"We gotta go, everyone's waiting." Said Emily, Morgan looked around and noticed that they were indeed alone.
"Sorry." Said Morgan before taking Emily's hand as they walked out together.
"Did you hear anything that was said?" asked Emily. Morgan thought for a moment before looking at her with a face of complete confusion.
"Wait you what? I'm what?" he exclaimed. Emily laughed.
"Don't worry, I had the abortion and you're not fired. Hotch and I were messing with you to see if anything would get a reaction." Said Emily, still laughing.
"You're cruel, Emily Prentiss." Said Morgan, letting go of her hand and putting an arm around her shoulders, pulling her closer.
"Well what would you have done if it were true?" asked Emily.
"I would have found another job in law enforcement, maybe with the DEA, and talked with you about whether or not you would want to find your daughter. And if the answer to that is yes, then I wouldn't stop until you had a chance to meet her." Said Morgan.
"Really? You wouldn't be mad at me for not telling you?" asked Emily.
"I'd be a little ticked off, but yes really, I would go to the ends of the earth." Said Morgan as he and Emily got into an SUV, Morgan driving.
"You'd get stopped at the adoption agency, the records are sealed both because I was a minor and because I wanted it to be a closed adoption." Said Emily.
"You forget that we have Garcia." Said Morgan.
"Right." Said Emily.
They arrived at the station a minute behind everyone else, walking in just in time to hear the captain's speech,
"Again my apologies for us turning you away, we believed that we had jurisdiction." Said the captain.
"There is no doubt that this is a federal case but we would like to work with you." Said Hotch.
"Understood. Just let anyone know what you need and it will be provided." Said the captain coldly
"Thank you." Said Hotch.
I know that this isn't much of a chapter and I'm sorry. I'm still trying to work out the case but I just wanted to get something up. I hope everyone is having a nice weekend! Please leave a review!
