Back to Atlanta Sequel ch11
"Well this is a weird one" said Rossi when he entered the station.
"How?" asked Hotch.
"Turns out the strangling occurred post-mortem" said Rossi.
"Well then how did they die?" asked Emily.
"They were deprived of oxygen." Said Rossi.
"Like they drowned?" asked JJ.
"No, the coroner says that they were probably all put in a room that all the oxygen was then sucked out of." Said Rossi.
"What kind of stuff would you need to accomplish that?" asked Emily.
"I'll get Garcia on it." said Morgan, pulling out his cell phone.
"Good, does anyone else have anything?" asked Hotch.
"Yeah, some of the girls turned out to be local runaways, and the last place they were seen was a local coffee shop. They were around seventeen or eighteen when they disappeared, and they haven't been found." Said Reid.
"Wait if they weren't found in the mass grave, then how did you connect them?" asked Rossi.
"Timing, school records, family interviews done at the time of the disappearance." Said Reid.
"And you're sure?" asked Hotch.
"Positive." Said Reid.
"That means that someone needs to be sent undercover." Said Hotch, looking at JJ and Emily who were sitting right next to each other.
"Which one of us?" asked Emily.
"Well which one can play the part of the unsuspecting victim who has low self-esteem." Said Reid.
"I'll do it." said both women at once, they looked at each other.
"C'mon Em, you've done enough undercover work to last a lifetime, let me take this one." Said JJ.
"Are you sure?" asked Emily.
"Yeah" said JJ, both looked at Hotch expectantly.
"Alright, let's get you ready to go."
"Which means shopping. You have to wear something other than those work clothes, maybe jeans and a baggy sweatshirt that scream low self-esteem?" said Emily.
"Definitely, we won't be long." Said JJ, getting up with Emily.
"An don't spend too much please." Said Hotch.
"Not a problem." Said Emily before both women left just as Morgan walked in.
"Where are they going?" asked Morgan.
"We're sending JJ undercover, Emily's helping her get ready." Said Hotch.
"So we found out where they're hunting?" asked Morgan.
"A local coffee shop." Said Hotch.
"That's good then. Garcia's looking for substantial properties with the ability to equip, for lack of better description, gas chamber. Once she gets a list of that she'll narrow it down to people who can afford the equipment." Said Morgan.
"Well if we find where they are, there will be no need for JJ to go undercover." Said Rossi.
"Right." Said Hotch just as Morgan's phone rang.
"Hey Babygirl" he said when he answered the phone.
-I got nothing, sorry. Said Garcia
"not even a list of properties?" asked Morgan
-Sorry, there's nothing in this area that could equip that kind of thing. I can keep looking but I don't think that I will find anything. Said Garcia.
"All right, I'll talk to you later Garcia." Said Morgan before hanging up.
"She can't find anything." Said Morgan.
"So they're not keeping the girls in this area?" asked Reid.
"Or they're well hidden and not registered with the IRS" said Rossi.
"So JJ's going undercover?" asked Morgan.
"Sounds like it." said Hotch.
"We're back" said Emily as she and JJ walked into the room.
"That was fast." Said Rossi.
"Apparently baggy clothes are in this season, it wasn't too hard." Said JJ.
"Alright, let's get you set up with a wire and untraceable phone." Said Hotch.
"I'll help, I know the procedure." Said Emily, Hotch nodded and they left the room again.
"You should call Will, you never know when you might get another opportunity." Said Emily, JJ nodded.
"You're right." Said JJ, pulling out her cell.
"I'm going to go get a wire." Said Emily, JJ nodded.
-Hey Cher everything ok? Asked Will.
"Yeah I'm fine, look we have a human trafficking case, I'm going undercover I just wanted to let you know." Said JJ.
-There's nothing I can say to get you to not go, is there? Asked Will.
"It was me or Emily and she's done enough undercover for one life she volunteered but I don't know what this could do to her if it goes bad." Said JJ.
"You're a good agent, and a better friend. I love you JJ." Said Will.
"Love you too I'll see you soon." Said JJ
-Yeah, do you wanna talk to the little man? He's standing right in front of me with those puppy dog eyes said Will, JJ chuckled.
"Yeah could you put him on?" asked JJ.
-Here he is….
-Hi mommy said Henry
"Hey buddy, are you being a good boy for daddy?" asked JJ.
-Yeah
"That's my boy, I just wanted to call and tell you that I won't be able to call for the next few days because I'm gonna be really busy with work ok. I love you." Said JJ
-Bye mommy, be safe. Love you. Said Henry
"Bye buddy." Said JJ, he listened as Henry hung up the phone and she put hers away.
"God those guys are assholes, it took me this long to convince them to get me a wire. You ok?" asked Emily. JJ smiled.
"Yeah, I'm good." Said JJ. Emily was holding the jeans and hooking the wire along the waistband.
"Alright well go change into the baggy clothes, be careful when you're putting these on" Said Emily, handing her the jeans.
"Don't wires get hooked to our bra's?" asked JJ.
"They're gonna search you, but they never think to look at the waistband closely." Said Emily.
"Have you worked a human trafficking case before?" asked JJ, Emily nodded.
"Once, I was the one who went undercover." Said Emily.
"How bad was it?" asked JJ.
"You'll be ok. If you ever get in trouble or you feel like you can't handle it anymore, just press the button and that'll send a signal back to us, giving us your location." Said Emily.
"What about the cell?" asked JJ but Emily shook her head.
"If they catch you with a cell phone they will hurt you, kill you if they discover its government issued, no way you're going in there with a cell phone when you don't need it. The wire is controlled by police, it can't be shut off even accidently." Said Emily.
"Are you sure?" asked JJ.
"Trust me, I'm positive." Said Emily.
"Ok" said JJ.
"Take a moment to collect your thoughts, and get ready to be someone else. I'll got tell the team you're ready" said Emily.
"Ok" said JJ. Emily left the room, giving her a small smile before she went.
"She's ready. I'm gonna drive her to the place" Said Emily.
"Alright. Tell her good luck from all of us." Said Hotch.
"I will" said Emily.
What do you guys think? I asked my criminal justice teacher how law enforcement would proceed in the event of a human trafficking case and apparently they work from the inside out. Anyway I'm leaving in a few minutes so I wanted to post this now. Thanks for all the support!
