Chapter Four:

Ino sat down in a field of flowers, admiring the colors of the wide array of flowers. The collection of late summer scents combined into a sweet aroma that tickled her senses and made her smile. She loved flowers, ever since she was a little girl helping her parents out at their little flower shop.

How many years had it been since she sat her with Sakura? Since they talked about what they would be when they grew up. How many times had the two snuck out to this very blossoming field and had girl time?

Too long is all I can say. She thought silently.

Suddenly, she felt a familiar presence behind her. Knowing exactly who it was she fought the urge to smile. Instead she pulled her knees to her chest and sighed deeply into her thighs. Her mind was silently a drift with memories both pleasant and painful at the same time.

Shikamaru gave the pale blond haired girl's back a lazy grin and sat down beside her. He lifted his arm and draped it easily over her shoulder, silently hoping he wouldn't kill her. Sure the two were crazy about each other and were dating for about two years now, but Ino wasn't big on showing her emotions. That was her big change after Sasuke left.

When she didn't yell at him, he pulled her close to him until the side of her head was against his chest. She sighed softly, before nuzzling his chest. After a moment he felt her arms encircle his waist. The lazy jonin could help but smile at his girlfriend, as he kissed her hair. He'd done the right thing following her down here and holding her close to him.

"Shikamaru, I…" She called his name softly, though her voice was laced with uncertainty.

"I know." He whispered, "I know."

She smiled and shook her head. Her long blond ponytail swayed for side-to-side behind her. Ino finally looked up into his dark eyes. He was smiling down at her as well. Sure his grin was nowhere near as dazzling and energetic as hers, but she wouldn't want her teammate any other way. She fell in love with the slacker boy who like to bad mouth the female race.

"Not that, Shika." She said in a teasing voice, "I'm going to tell her."

"Who?" He asked, raising a brow.

"Sakura." She said with a girlish giggle.

He gave her a lazy grin, before he started lightly brushing the side of her face with his palm. Ino's breath caught momentarily, as her blood started to heat in her veins. Shikamaru lightly gripped her chin between his fingers and stared deeply into her large bluish green eyes. She was blushing, which made him chuckle lowly.

"What are you going to tell her?" He asked, genuinely intrigued.

His words drifted through the warm summer air, as the breeze tossed their hair around. A comfortable hush silence fell around the two. Ino suddenly smiled and leaned up until her lips lightly brushed his in a short but sweet kiss. She opened her eyes and almost giggled when she noticed his eyes were still closed even after the kiss ended.

"She deserves Sasuke." Ino finally answered, "Plus my heart belongs to another."

"Who might that be?" Shikamaru asked her with a curious look.

Ino sighed and shook her head at her former teammate. Sometime she was at a total loss at how slow the lazy jonin could be. Instead of answering him right away, she kissed him a second time. This kiss was both longer were it lacked the sweetness of the first it made up in a fierce inferno of passion.

"You." She whispered a tad breathless, "You lunkhead."

Shikamaru grinned, "I knew that."

"Sure you did." Ino laughed.

Ino snuggled closer into his chest. She knew it wouldn't be long until her pink haired rival showed up and she also knew she knew how uncomfortable Sakura was when Ino and Shikamaru were all over each other when she was around. As if he sensed her inner turmoil, Shikamaru released his hold on her and moved to stand up and walk away. Ino went to stand up and follow him only to be stopped by his voice.

"Stay."

"But Shika" She asked, "Where are you going?"

He didn't answer her; instead he turned on his heel and walked away. Once he was nothing more than an old indention on the cool grass, Ino released the breath she didn't even know she was holding. The scent of sweet flowers did little to ease her growing worries that Shikamaru and her would never work out and the feelings they felt for one another was purely temporary.

Suddenly, Shikamaru's face appeared in front of her face. She jerked slightly in surprise, though the boy seemed oblivious to it as he continued to squat down in front of her. His expression was unreadable as he leaned closer to her. Slowly, he moved the hair away from one of her ears and slid a pretty pink cosmos flower over the top of her ear.

As he moved back to admire his handy work, Ino's arms slipped around his neck. Her fingers laced together against his back. He moved swiftly and their lips met with a fierce intensity. His lips were soft and warm against hers, moving slightly and grinding roughly against her mouth. She could feel her lips begin to puff up as he kissed her hard.

Desperate to make the moment last and fell him pressed again her body, she tugged at the hold she had around his neck. He managed to catch himself and force his weight on his arms so he wouldn't crush her, as she fell back into a bed of soft grass and small flowers. She groaned into his mouth, slightly annoyed he'd foiled her plan.

Ino could almost taste his smirk against her lips and almost sighed happily when she felt his body lower slightly on her. Her knees hugged his waist tightly, their legs tangling together. She gripped his shirt in her small hands, as his tongue twisted around hers in a passionate tango. A deep and husky groan escaped the back of his throat, making her insides quake with need and wanting.

Shikamaru broke the kiss with great difficulty and rested his weight on his palms. He searched the bleach blonde's eyes before he smirked. Her cheeks were pink and radiated heat. Her eyes seemed to be alight with something wicked. The dark haired ninja gulped. When she looked at him like that, it made it hard for him to be the responsible guy he used to be.

Yet, he managed to smile and help her stand.

"I better get out of here before Sakura shows up." He said suddenly, his voice deeper than usual.

Ino nodded and lightly kissed his cheek, her lips lingering longer than a quick peck.

"See you later?"

Ino nodded again.

"You bet!" She yelled at his back.

( A/N: Ok so yeah I wanted to try something a little different. I hope everyone enjoyed the super-hot make out session with Ino and Shikamaru. I thought it might be a little sweet to see how the other girl who claimed to be devoted to Sasuke stood after five years. So yeah here ya go.)
