From the moment Steve laid his eyes on his little girl, nothing else in the world mattered. She was perfect, long eyelashes, tiny button nose, and soft blonde hair covering her entire head. Watching as tear flowed openly from his wife's eyes as their daughter lay on her bare chest, it made everything in his life worth it. All the bad things in the world no longer mattered. He placed a soft but fierce kiss on Natasha's lips and basked in the joy of being surrounded by his family.
They were allowed silence for a few hours but both Natasha and Steve knew it was only a matter of time before their little bubble was interrupted. Bruce was the first one to enter the room, checking Sarah over and gently caressing her face, a small smile appearing on his face. It came without a shock that Clint was the next ones in the room. Clint caught Natasha's eye and silently asked for permission to pick up the baby. She smiled softly and snuggled further into her bed. Clint picked up Sarah with such care; it instantly put Steve at ease.
"She's perfect…Hey there bug, I'm your uncle Clint, your favorite uncle. We are gonna have so much fun when you're not so small and breakable."
Steve let out a shaky laugh as the rest of the team walked into the room. Pepper tried to get Tony to carry the baby but he simply stood back and chuckled, promising to spoil Sarah rotten. Everyone held their breath as Pepper placed her in Thor's arms. She looked extra miniature curled up in the crook of his elbow. Natasha held tightly onto Steve's hand.
"Meet your family Sarah. You're in for a wild ride little princess."
In the following weeks there was a feeling of calmness around the tower. Sarah Belle had all the avengers wrapped around her little finger. Steve was beginning to wonder if his daughter would ever be placed down. She was constantly being passed around from person to person. Tony even began carrying her, the first time he held her she spit up all over him, causing Clint to laugh so hard he thought he had popped a rib. Natasha was currently standing by the door to their living space, watching Steve hold their daughter in his arms, the smile on his face showed just how much he loved his baby. She walked over taking the seat next to his and smiling at her husband and her baby.
"Sometimes I think ill just wake up, this is all a dream."
"Its real Tasha, I pinch myself several dozen times a day."
She chuckled, the sound of her laughter cause her daughters eyes to flicker over to her. The emerald green color of her eyes caused her breath to catch every single time.
"we've been so wrapped up in our own little family. What are we going to o when the world needs to be saved again? How are we going to keep her safe?"
Steve paid close attention to Natasha as she spoke but his daughters stirring in his arms took his attention. He smiled as he spoke.
"Together. We're the avengers Tasha, I almost feel bad for anyone who tries to hurt this family."
He wrapped his free arm around Natasha and pulled her in close, placing a gentle kiss on her forehead. Sarah began to doze off in his arms.
"You know, its funny, when I first came out of the ice I gave up all hope for a real future. Love and family, I thought they were out of the cards for me. I guess I was wrong. I guess-"
Steve paused to chuckle and look down at his child once more.
"You guess what?"
"I guess all I needed was to find the right partner."
