Chapter 14
Brennan was super nervous as she waited for the phone to send her the text message that would tell her what number to call. She was standing next to the phone booth and she was nervous. She started pacing and wondered if she had screwed up and should have found a way to alert the security guard and then to try and get Booth to set up a plan, but at the same time she couldn't risk her daughter's life, especially since she had no idea if the gravedigger had someone on the inside watching her and spying for her. If the gravedigger had a source on the inside, then Alana would have been killed before Brennan had even gotten on the bus to begin with.
Suddenly her phone chimed which told her that a text message had come through. She looked down and winced as she saw that it was Booth and not the number she was waiting for. It was clear he was worried that she was in a meeting or doing something important and that was why he hadn't just called. She was nervous because she wasn't sure if she was allowed to talk to him or not, whether by text or by phone. She knew that she would need to be careful if she called him, like his text message requested, because he loved her so much that he was always able to tell when something was wrong or if she was lying, it was something that stumped her because she had heard him say he was a human lie detector.
"Hey bones." Booth answered on the second ring. "I am glad you called right away, I think we might have a new case. I know you probably don't want to work a case right now, just as much as I don't, but the FBI has made it clear we have to work it, it's a high profile case." Booth said and she could hear the frustration and anger that was clearly there in his voice. "Jared has made it clear he won't stop looking for Alana and he has called in a few more friends to help with the case, as well as help me with the house while we talk over the case at night."
"Oh, you might take the others to the scene, I can't make it for a while, I have a prior appointment." Brennan said, hoping she didn't sound as nervous as she was feeling. She wanted to tell him that she was going to try and get their daughter back, that she might be going to see Alana soon. She also knew there was a huge chance this was just a joke to them, to see how far they could make her go, or it could be an ambush, a trap set to either grab her as well or kill her and get her out of the picture. She hated the thought that she could be walking right into a trap and that Booth could possibly lose both his daughter and his wife, to the same people.
"Bones, tell me what's going on." Booth said softly after a small amount of silent time.
"Nothing, I can't talk right now, I really need to go. Just go ahead and take Clark down there as well as whoever else you think you might need and tell Jared thank you. I know how hard this is for you, not being able to search for Alana full time on your own, but hopefully soon we can find her and bring her home." Brennan said and then she hung up before Booth could say anything else.
It wasn't long before the phone number was texted to her phone. She quickly wrote it down on a piece of paper she had with her and then she followed the instructions of disabling the phone and tossing them into the trash can before she went ahead and called the number on the payphone. She listened to the new instructions and then she started walking till she got to the corner where a car was sitting there, the one that she was told would be waiting and the keys were exactly where they were said to have been left. Brennan go into the car and drove where she was supposed to, wondering just what she was taking herself into and she was hoping there would be a chance for her to save Alana.
Booth knew something was wrong, he could feel it in his gut. He knew that Bones had told him that she was going to be in her office all day, so why did she all of a sudden have to go and run off, where could she have gone off to? He was feeling a slow panic starting to rise inside of him, hoping that Bones hadn't gone off and gotten herself into a bad situation. He knew how naïve she could be, how she didn't understand certain aspects of life and how people acted.
"Hey big bro, what's the matter?" Jared asked as he frowned at Seeley.
"Something is wrong with Brennan." Booth said as he looked at his younger brother. He knew he was lucky to have him in his life and he was even luckier because his brother had been sacrificing a lot to help his brother, and had done so in the past as well.
"What do you think is wrong?" Jared asked, he could tell something was really getting under his older brother's skin.
"I don't know yet, it's just a gut feeling but I think I might need to have some other team take the new case and I might need to get everyone together, I think my lovely wife may be walking into something horrible." Booth said and the concern that was in his eyes and in his voice was clear, and he could see the moment his younger brother got how serious this whole thing could be.
"They might have her now to?" Jared whispered softly.
"If they don't yet, they might soon." Booth confirmed as he made a few calls to set up a different team to take over the case and then calling all of the others while Jared drove them towards the offices. It wouldn't be long until they all finally saw how horrible the situation really was.
A few hours after starting the whole journey to do what she was told, Brennan was cursing herself under her breath. She was currently chained to a chair and her head was aching after she had suffered a surprise tazing before she was injected with something in her neck.
"I never thought I would get the chance to have my hands on you." A male voice stated as he knelt in front of her.
Brennan felt sick to her stomach, she knew that voice and she knew this person. Her eyes were still blurred and she couldn't see anything really and that was bothering her. She knew who the person was though and she hated the thought that she could have been played, this might not have anything to do with her daughter, she maybe have walked into a trap of someone taking advantage of the situation.
"What's the matter, cat got your tongue?" The man whispered next to her ear before he licked the side of her face and after she yanked away from him, well, tried to anyway, he started cackling, yes cackling, like a mad old lady would.
"Don't play with her yet, it's not time." A female voice said and Brennan knew that voice, it was the gravedigger, so this did have something to do with her baby girl.
"Where is my little girl?" Brennan asked.
"Right here." The gravedigger whispered and then Brennan felt a little hand on hers.
"Mommy." Alana's scared little voice whispered.
"Lana, baby, mommy's right here and I am going to find a way to get you out of here." Brennan whispered as tears fell from her eyes, she could hear her baby speaking to her, she could feel her little hand.
"Aww, how sweet, don't worry, as soon as the drug fully wears off you are going to see her, and then you can watch as we start to have our fun with Alana." The man said as he cackled even louder. Brennan heard Alana whimper.
Brennan was hurting inside, she wanted to scream at how bad this situation was and inside she was praying, and considering she didn't ever pray because she didn't believe in it, that was saying just how badly she needed a miracle to happen, just how badly she needed Booth to find them.
"Please Seeley, find me and our daughter." Brennan whispered after she heard a door close and Alana whispered that the others were gone.
