Chapter 16

It had been a little over a day since Brennan had gone off and ended up with those kidnappers. Booth was going through everything in front of him, every single clue and they had been basically living in the FBI's mobile command unit, as agents and local police officers searched some of the area's that could be what Brennan was hinting to in the last clue. They had searched the area of the last sighting and had gotten nowhere. It was Daisy and Sweets that had noticed something about the last clue that was different than all the others. They had come up with three different area's, but they were big area's that could take a day for each one to be searched completely. Booth wasn't sure if his wife and the daughter he hadn't gotten a chance to meet would have a minimum of those three days. Booth felt his heart shattering with each negative report that came over the channel that was for this search and this case alone, and as he stared at the map and watched the pins that marked a searched building or lot that was negative, he felt like he was dying inside.

Booth knew there was a chance his wife could be carrying their second child, something they hadn't been talking about because they felt horrible about that while their daughter was missing. Booth was thinking about how he could be losing his wife, their unborn child that wasn't even confirmed to be conceived yet and their daughter, the one he hadn't even met yet. Parker loved his step mother, he and Brennan got along amazingly well. Parker was excited to know he had a younger sister, one that he wanted to meet more than anything and he couldn't wait until she was home and they got to make up for lost time.

Booth looked down and saw that his phone was ringing and he noticed it was his ex, Parker's mother. Booth sighed, praying that someone hadn't gone after Parker now that they had Brennan and Alana.

"Yeah?" Booth answered as quickly as he could.

"Seeley, how are you doing?" His ex's voice came over the line softly.

"Rebecca? I am doing as well as can be expected." Booth said softly. "Is everything all right? Is there something wrong with Parker? Did someone threaten you and Parker?"

"No, Parker saw the news, saw your picture and heard the Brennan was missing and that she had gone to find your daughter, his little sister and he was worried about you, he's worried about his sister and his step mom." Rebecca reassured him quickly.

"Is he right there?" Booth asked softly, knowing that even thought things weren't all right and he was dying inside and terrified, as a father he needed to reassure his son, he needed Parker to know it was going to be all right.

"Yes hold on." Rebecca said softly and Booth waited for his son to come on the phone.

"Dad?" Parker asked softly.

"Hey buddy, I heard you're upset right now." Booth said as he listened and then reassured his son, all while trying to tell himself that there was always a chance, after all, his wife was Temperance Brennan.

Brennan was watching Alana very carefully and wondering if her husband would figure out the last clue or not, and it was scaring her to know that there was a chance that it would be too hard or that he would be too freaked out to see what she was trying to tell him. Brennan could see that Alana was struggling to hang on, she was hurt really bad, possibly worse than Brennan, but even if she wasn't worse off, she was a little girl, a tiny little girl, whose could suffer worse from even the slightest of injuries. Brennan was terrified that her daughter could have a wound that wouldn't be deadly for an adult, but could be for a little child. She tried to see from where she was where her daughter was hurt, she was struggling to make a diagnosis from the chair, but with the way Alana was curled into a tiny ball, it didn't seem likely that she could from there. Her heart was in her throat as she thought of the fact that her daughter could be critically wounded and she might not be able to save her with her being chained. Brennan started trying to dislocate or break something on herself, she didn't care if she had to lose a body part, she didn't want to lose her daughter, she would give up everything she had for her daughter.

"Alana, baby, hang on for mommy." Brennan said as she struggled. She knew she was wounded herself, but she ignored that. She heard the snap and felt the bone break after some maneuvering, she knew about bones so she knew what she needed to do, and now that she had extra pain streaking through, she tried to ignore to keep working but she passed out from the pain, she would just need to use the break to her advantage when she came to if no one was around then to save them.

Booth was staring at a picture of Alana that Brennan had given him. It was something that she knew he would want, something to keep in his wallet next to his picture of Parker. Booth sighed as he looked up at the last clue that Bones had managed to show him. He zoomed in on it again and then he noticed something he hadn't before, she was making a weird face but she was doing it in the mirror, almost like she was trying to send a message. The entire time she had been riding with this creep or doing anything, she avoided letting her face be seen by the camera's, like she was trying to show them she didn't want to be seen either, but she was purposely making a face in the mirror. He kept the video zoomed in as he played the footage back and noticed her eyes seemed to be pointing in a way that her fingers couldn't and that was when he got it, he knew what she was trying to say and it had to do with a case they had worked together.

They had gotten in a big fight over what they thought the woman had been trying to say when they saw her in a video just before her death. It looked like Bones remembered that, well she obviously remembered that, but she was hoping he would to. She was using references from some of their old cases, talking to him in a way only he would understand. He knew where to look, she was talking about a case that actually had ties to one of the three areas, and it wasn't the area they were searching. He grabbed his things and ran out of the command center and found the others.

"We're looking in the wrong area, we need to move." Booth said as he moved for his SUV.

"Are you sure?" Cam asked as she followed and so did the rest of the team and several agents and a couple of cops.

"I figured out the last clue, I know what she was trying to say." Booth said as he started his car and started driving, finding the area was a part of the battle, the next part was finding exactly where in the area they were at.

He saw the vehicles pulling in and he felt such anger and hatred filling him, and a look over said his accomplices were just as angry. They didn't know how they knew where to look, or how the stupid doctor or whatever she was had managed to tell them where to go. He wished they had just killed the woman and her kid outright, especially since they now knew what the three of them looked like, they would have to lie low while coming up with their new plan, but they had made the first move and they had many more that they had in mind. They knew who was next on their list, who they would use to send a message and they were more than willing and ready to do it. Someone was going to die, someone close to the group and someone they would not dare dream about taking care of. He was still hoping that at least one of the two would die from the beatings that he delivered, the little girl was weaker because of the work he had done on her, and as long as the stupid woman didn't get loose, they still had a chance to make them bury that little girl, they had a big chance.

"You won't find them in time, by the time they are found I know one will be dead." He said with a grin full of malice.

Booth could feel that they were close by, he just knew it in his father's gut. He was knocking on doors and kicking in doors, just like so many others. Suddenly he couldn't explain why he was drawn to a building but he was and when he made it inside, he could see that someone had been in there lately, and he moved, he worked his way through with help and then he stopped at a door that had several locks on the outside of the door, which was confusing, unless you were trying to keep someone in.

"Over here!" Booth yelled out. "Bring me tools!" He added as he waited he knocked on the door. "Bones, it's me, baby answer me! Alana, baby, are you in there? It's your daddy!" He kept shouting until he was given tools and it took him nearly twenty minutes to get in and when he finally did they started searching the rooms and finally they found them. There was blood all over the two of them, and Booth saw that they weren't moving.

"Oh no." Cam cried out, tears entering her eyes as she saw her friend and her friends' daughter, staying so still and unresponsive.

Booth moved to his wife and collapsed on his knees in front of her. He glanced at his daughter as well, he was terrified that one or both of them were dead, and he reached his hand out to his wife's neck, ready to check for a pulse and found…
