"So where are we off to, Doc?" asked Wally.

"To Eva's house!" The Doctor replied with enthusiasm. "I thought it would be best to visit on the day before I found her, you know before the Cybermen and Daleks entered the picture."

Wally agreed. He then told the Doctor about the strange Cyberman that he and Eva encountered in New New York. As he explained the powers and design of the new creature, he saw that the Doctor became more and more uneasy. When Wally revealed that he recognized the creature from his own past timeline, the Doctor quickly lifted his hand, gesturing that he wanted Wally to stop talking.

The Doctor did not move from the console. He hunched over it, glaring at Wally who stood with his arms crossed on the other side. Wally lowered his head. It was time to tell the Doctor everything. He feared how the Doctor would react, but knew that it had to be done. Wally took a deep breath and braced himself for the inevitable onslaught of questions from the Doctor. At least he didn't need to worry about Eva. She was fast asleep in her own room, exhausted from fighting that Cyberman from the motorway.

"Tell me, Wally." The Doctor said in a forceful tone. "Why are you really here?"

Wally scrunched his eyes as if he was in pain.

"That's a loaded question, Doc." He said in a lower tone.

"I've got time."

Wally leaned himself against the other side of the console and prepared himself. "There was more to the day I first met you than I let on. Right now everything in here is bright and alive; but that day it wasn't."

The memories began to pool into his head, and he relived it all over again as he recounted everything.

"I knelt beside you, lamenting that I had been too late to save her. You were furious when you saw me, saying that I had helped you before, or at least tried to. I tried to convince you that Eva was not supposed to die."

The Doctor interrupted him. "Yeah yeah, I remember you saying all that. And then I didn't believe you, then you followed me into the TARDIS and I said 'I hate it when you do that', and then I laid her body down…"

His eyes froze in horror. How did he not think of asking this question until now?

"Wally." He said quietly, as if frightened like a child afraid of the dark. "Who killed her?"

He watched Wally's facial expression form itself into a mixture of anger and sorrow. Wally stared daggers into the Doctor's eyes, and leaned away from the console. He slowly walked closer to the Doctor, until he was right beside him, still looking him dead in the eyes.

"You did." He said coldly.

The Doctor's eyes widened in shock. All of a sudden he felt as if he was being crushed by some invisible force. He could feel his stomach start to churn. He couldn't believe this. The Doctor may have killed in order to save millions of lives, but surely he would never murder his own companion. He shook his head in protest. "No."

Wally nodded his head, reaffirming his previous statement.

"I followed you into the TARDIS." Wally continued. "It was dark inside, and your console was heavily damaged. I pleaded with you to help me save Eva's life but you wouldn't hear of it; not until you collapsed due to your injuries."

"Injuries?"

"I lent you some of my energy from the Speed Force so that you could heal quickly enough to eat some chocolate. I read in a book that eating chocolate would help counteract the aspirin poisoning."

The Doctor stood upright and let his hands fall into his coat pockets. He couldn't say anything for a few moments, but his facial expression said enough. He was horrified. His trusted companion, his friend, had tried to kill him. With aspirin. Even among his many companions, how many of them ever knew about the Time Lord's fatal weakness?

"S.T.A.R. Labs kept the TARDIS safe and locked away, and Eva's body was cremated for safety reasons. You tried to leave but I guess your TARDIS had other ideas. It was out of order, you said. You were stuck in my world. You thought it would only be for two days, but it ended up being at least two years."

Wally continued his story. "At first, everyone thought you would just fade into the faces of the rest of the populace; but not you. Even without the TARDIS, you harnessed your wits, your intelligence and your sonic screwdriver to fight the good fight."

The Doctor blinked. "I became a superhero?"

He sounded unconvinced.

Wally dismissed the idea. "No. You never even wanted to be referred to as a superhero. Not even after all you did."

The Doctor stayed silent for a moment.

"What did I do, Wally?" he asked.

"Doc." Wally began, taking in a breath. "You fought with the best of them. Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, the Titans… You did it all. You even had a brief membership with the Lantern Corps."

The Doctor scoffed. "Why brief?"

"Because you weren't interested in taking orders for a living."

Wally was happy to see the Doctor smile at that last comment.

"That does sound like me, I suppose." Said the Doctor.

Wally nodded.

"But then-"his voice filled with dread. "Then came the invasion."

The Doctor's smile dropped almost instantly. He didn't like where this was headed.

"It was Hell, Doctor." Wally said solemnly. "We were overwhelmed. Superman was killed. The League was in shambles. Even some of our most bitter enemies united with us, but still we were crushed."

Wally paused.

The Doctor breathed, "What invasion? What happened next, Wally?"

He didn't respond.

"Wally."

Their conversation was suddenly interrupted by the sound of Eva stomping her foot loudly enough for the vibrations to be felt all the way to the console. She was supposed to be asleep.

"Why?" snapped the Doctor at Wally. "Why wouldn't I just leave after the TARDIS repaired itself?"

Wally handed the Doctor the golden jewel case that he had kept on himself.

"Perhaps you should ask yourself." He said.

The Doctor took the jewel case into his hands and opened it. Inside was a shiny computer disk. His eyes widened in surprise at what he was holding. Could it really be? Did he really send a message to himself? The Doctor took a brief moment to let it all soak in, before he was startled by Eva shouting aloud in anger. Something had happened. Wally ran ahead, leaving no more than an afterimage behind him. The Doctor did not follow just yet. He stood there, silent, and holding the jewel case in his hands. He would have to look at this later. Right now, there were more pressing matters: such as making sure an emotional, super-powered teenager didn't wreck his vehicle.

By the way, I looked up that the Doctor did, in fact, eat chocolate to counteract aspirin in an older audio story. Interesting, no? =)
