A/N: Thank you so much for still reading this. I'll be honest, I considered giving up after writer's block plus fearing disappointing people. I will continue to update, and now that I know that people still enjoy it, I will update more regularly. Thanks for not giving up on me, and sorry for nearly giving up on this story.
Jordan still couldn't believe his eyes. This technology was far more advanced than he had ever seen. Who was this guy in the coat? Where did he acquire such a ship? Could he be a threat? And what of this abnormally powerful teenager he had with him? Someone like that could be a danger to everybody. He knew he had seen her face somewhere before, but he couldn't quite place it just yet.
"So what's your first name?" Asked Eva.
"Hal." He answered.
Wally could hardly believe it.
"Nice to meet you." He said with a friendly smile. "It's me, Wally! Er, I mean, my name is Wally."
Hal couldn't help but feel like this freak in the red suit was bit too enthusiastic to meet him. And what was with the mask and tights? Was there a convention close to where he crashed?
"I can't help but notice your colorful outfit." He said with a smirk. "You another one of those 'super' people too?"
The Doctor stopped fiddling with the console and twirled around. Before Wally even had a chance to utter a reply, the Doctor chimed in, concern written all over his face.
"Wait a minute." He said. "What do mean 'those' super people?"
Hal straightened his back, making eye contact with the Doctor.
"Not meaning any discrimination, I assure you, mister..."
"Just call me The Doctor."
"We call him 'Doc' for short." Eva chimed in.
"Don't you dare." said the Doctor, in annoyance.
"Okay...'Doc.' "
Hal thought he suddenly heard the Doctor curse under his breath.
"What I mean is that lately it seems there's always some new vigilante running around fighting crime, or some criminal causing enough trouble that the media refers to him as a 'supervillain'."
The Doctor was starting to get nervous. He thought back to his sudden surge of pain earlier. Could this be the change in time he was feeling?
Eva laughed with excitement. "That is so cool! Tell me more about them!"
Hal was baffled by her. "Have you been living under a rock? They're all over the news! There's that Robin Hood wannabe in Star City. You know, the one with the bow and arrow thing going on?"
Eva shook her head.
"No? Okay well how about the guy way over in Gotham who dresses like a bat?"
"Batman?" The Doctor asked.
"Yeah him. Although he seems like a real tool if you ask me."
"Wow!" said Eva, teeming with glee. "That sounds really exciting. Real life superheroes?"
Unfortunately for her, neither the Doctor nor Hal Jordan shared her enthusiasm. The Doctor was quick to bring it a halt.
"That's not a good thing, Eva." he said in a stern tone. "Time has been changed, and it could have dire consequences unless we set it straight."
"But why?" she asked, saddened.
"Because-"
"Excuse me, Doctor." Hal interrupted. "First thing's first. I need to get back to base. As much as I might regret it."
"Oh. Right. Door's open. We've been landed for a while."
"Wait, why would you regret it?" asked Eva.
Hal made his way to the doors. "Let's just say I'm in hot water already."
He waved goodbye as he walked out.
"Thanks for the ride, Doc."
"That's Doctor!" He said as he followed him out of the TARDIS.
Wally and Eva were right behind him. They had landed right in the middle of a landing strip. Spherical aircraft were flying over their hands in formation, and other jets were beginning to land. Their loud thundering in the air caused Eva to quickly cover her ears and wince in pain. The Doctor shut the doors to the TARDIS and ran to Hal, who had already entered a building nearby. The Doctor figured that Jordan might be reporting to his superior, from whom he'd be able to get more information about the alien craft that Hal was flying, and why Earth even has them.
Wally sped in front of the Doctor, and blocked his path.
"Are you sure you really want to do this?" he asked.
Wally looked worried, but not about Hal. He looked worried about the Doctor.
"Why are you blocking me, Wally?"
"Because what you are about to do will have very, very big consequences."
"You mean bigger than letting extraterrestrial military technology fall into the laps of the wrong people on a planet that isn't even familiar with interacting with other alien races yet?"
The Doctor tried moving around Wally, but he kept being blocked.
"I can't let you do this again, Doc."
That was the last straw.
"Do what, exactly Wally?" He said. " What is it that I'm going to do that is so bad? Where's the adventurous Flash that I read about after I met you?"
Eva tapped the Doctor's shoulder, and stood right by her friend.
"Why don't we do what he says, Wally?" she said, nervously.
Before the Doctor could respond, Wally cut him off.
"Doctor, you go in there and you'll have started an ugly mess. The world will end up hating not just you, but me, Eva, and the rest of my friends that you have yet to meet."
"They're not yours, Wally." the Doctor said, coldly. "Your friends are back in your dimension. Not here. This is my world. Now we've got extraterrestrial technology that should not be here, in my world, so if you'll excuse me Wally, I'm going to try to figure out why it's here and fix this 'mess' before it starts. With or without your help."
Eva patted Wally on the back. "Let's just let him go."
Wally finally complied. He stood in defeat as the Doctor walked past him and into the building.
"And I thought Bart was stubborn." he muttered under his breath.
Inside, Hal was fighting the urge to punch his commanding officer Davis in the face.
"That's the third fighter you've crashed, Jordan!" he yelled, his face red with anger. "Are you trying to sabotage us?!"
Everyone knew that as of late, Davis had not been himself. He had been more authoritative, ruthless, and even his manner of speech was different. Hal and the rest of the crewmen had managed to put up with it, but now was a test of how much longer this could go on.
"Of course not!" Hal shouted back. "I'm just testing its limits! It's my job! Look, it can go higher than any other fighter we've ever seen. It can pass Mach 3, it may even be able to reach the mesosphere!"
"He's right." said the Doctor, as he stood right behind Hal. "That thing you have there, well had is more like it. Where did you get that?"
"It is not of your concern." Davis grunted. "You must be the Doctor."
"Oh, why yes I am."
"Wonderful. Hal's told me all about you and your vessel."
"Doc, he thinks you're some kind of enemy. You and your teenage friend back there. You're wanted criminals!"
"Come now, Jordan." said the commander. "We know you've been working with them. We even have footage of you colluding with them after you crashed the jet."
"Now hold on! They saved my life!"
It was no use.
"You're done, Jordan. Terminated."
"Not yet." he growled through his gritted teeth. "I don't know what kind of parasite crawled into you the last few weeks, but I hope it can feel this!"
Concentrating all of his anger into one point in his fist, Hal Jordan threw a full fledged punch that met perfectly with Davis's square jaw. He then turned and left the building.
The Doctor ran after Hal, and caught him just outside near the TARDIS.
"Hal, wait!"
Hal shrugged him off.
"Haven't you done enough?!" he yelled. "I'm discharged! Dishonorably of all things."
"You were on to something, Hal. I can help you find what it is."
Hal ignored him and kept walking, that is, until a group of fifty armed soldiers surrounded them.
"Guys?"
There was no response. In fact, their faces showed no sign of emotion. They simply aimed their rifles at both him and the Doctor.
"Terminated." they all said in unison.
Wally was quick to act. Wally sped around them, snatching the guns from all of the men, and dropping them all at the Doctor's feet. Eva ran to them, easily shoving off any who tried to tackle her.
"What's going on?" she asked worriedly.
Before the Doctor could answer, a cylindrical force field wrapped itself around Eva, and a small silver pellet fell into it from above. The force field then sealed her inside, and the pellet broke open, quickly releasing gas that filled the chamber. Eva gasped frantically for air, and grabbed at her throat. Wally sped to the chamber and placed his hands on it. He tried using his connection to the Speed Force to steal energy from the force field to weaken it.
Unfortunately the mob of soldiers weren't about to wait for that to happen. They immediately rushed them, yelling as they charged.
"Well, Doc" said Hal, putting up his fists. "How good's your fighting?"
It didn't take an expert to know that the Doctor's fighting skill, while by no means poor, was not going to be enough for taking on fifty, possibly brainwashed, military soldiers.
"Wally!" yelled the Doctor.
Wally had no choice. His heart sank, looking at Eva's face through the force field. She was terrified, and had fallen on her knees. She mouthed to him, "Save the Doctor."
Wally regretfully nodded. He let go, and turned his attention to the men about to squash the Doctor like a bug. Hal recklessly charged them head on. Before any of the men had a chance to lay a fist on him, Wally knocked them out one by one in the blink of an eye. Thinking the crisis was averted, he turned his attention back to Eva. There was one problem. Wally could no longer see her inside the tube.
"Oh no no no!" he yelled frantically as the force field disappeared. He was too late. "Eva!"
The gas blew away with the wind, leaving only the ground behind.
The Doctor gazed at the scene in alarm. "She's gone."
