Wally ran around the entire complex, leaving red and yellow blurs in his wake. The Doctor stood perfectly still as his red streaks and sparks of lightning emanated from the speedster.
"She's not anywhere!" He yelled. "Doc, where'd she go?!"
"She was teleported away." replied the Doctor. "You can taste it in the air. Those particles left behind."
His thoughts were interrupted by the sound of pained moans and the shuffling of feet. The soldiers that Wally had knocked out started to get back up.
Hal grabbed one of them by the collar, his fist ready to make contact.
"Where is she?!" He yelled. "Talk!"
As worried as the Doctor was, he didn't take kindly to Hal's approach to the problem.
"Whoa! Easy, Hal!" he warned. "Put him down! We're not going to solve this with violence."
The Doctor observed them while they still staggered to their feet. Their pupils were slightly more dilated than normal. Their faces were emotionless. There's no doubt about it, he thought. They're under mind control.
"Alright, look we can go back and forth with this fighting nonsense all day." he said to them calmly. "I'm sure both Wally and Hal over here would more than happy to oblige, but I'm not. So here's the deal: You tell me who's in charge here, and I'll help you break free from whoever it is that is forcing you to do this."
Hal rolled his eyes. "Is this guy for real?"
"Don't think I don't see you rolling your eyes at me, Jordan!"
The soldiers all answered the Doctor in unison, "We serve a greater cause."
"Who's cause is that?!" yelled Wally, angrily.
"We serve a greater cause."
Hal released his grip on the soldier and snapped his fingers in front of his face. No response.
"Well this is going nowhere fast." he said.
The soldiers charged again, this time Hal took the first blow from the man he had just released. He fell to the ground and angrily spat out a mixture of blood and spit.
"That does it!" he yelled.
Wally thought for sure that knocking them out would release them of any hypnosis. Well, at least it worked on television. He was out of ideas, and turned to the Doctor for hope.
He had run back inside the building, heading straight for Davis.
"Order your men to back off!" yelled the Doctor.
Davis replied. "And why should I? When we have you right where we want you?"
"What?"
Davis grabbed the Doctor, and pressed a hidden button on the inside of his sleeve. Instantly he and the Doctor teleported away, leaving Wally and Hal behind.
Wally ran inside and outside the building, having evaded the hypnotized men. There was no sign of either of them. He sped back outside, where Hal was waiting by the doors, covered in bruises. The men had reclaimed their weapons, and formed themselves into a circled barrier around the Doctor's TARDIS. Hal put his fists up, ready to fight again. The men aimed their weapons at him.
"Got a plan?" asked Hal.
Wally grabbed him from behind. "Run!"
The second the shots fired, Wally had already taken off. To Hal, everything was a huge blur of colors but to Wally it was the opposite. Time slowed down to him. With everything so slowed down, Wally easily dodged every single bullet and pushed the brainwashed men out of his way, while holding onto Hal. They ran straight inside the TARDIS. Thankfully, the Doctor didn't lock it.
Wally locked the door behind him, and ran to the controls. He began scanning for any vessels near Earth's orbit. If whatever took Eva and the Doctor was still around, he might be able to get the TARDIS to take them there.
"You know how to work this thing?" said Hal, surprised.
"The Doctor taught me."
Eva woke up, gasping for air. She coughed repeatedly until her eyes watered, and tried to sit up. She couldn't move, and had been strapped to a long table like surface, that stood her upright.
"What's going on?" She wondered.
Two strange humanoids guarded the door. They had rifles, and blue helmets. In fact, their entire outfits were blue. Panicked, she struggled to get her body to move and break free, but it would not budge.
Suddenly the door slid open, making a humming noise while doing so. Another one of the blue humanoids stepped in and walked towards her.
"There is no use is struggling." He said.
"You've been exposed to our specialized gas. A rather, unexpected side effect for you is that you are rendered immobile. Other humans we have tested this on simply suffocate but are still able to move freely. Then again, if my intelligence is correct, you are not human are you?"
"What do you want with me?!" Eva exclaimed in fear.
"To know my enemy, and turn his strength into his ultimate defeat."
He then had two more blue armored humanoids approach and covered her head with a small device that fit lit a crown. The device hummed to life, and Eva could feel it doing its terrible work. Even though there were no needles, she felt as if she were being stabbed in the head, and screamed in a mixture of terror and pain.
The Doctor had woken up from his slumber. His entire body was aching, and the back of his head throbbed in pain. He realized instantly had been knocked unconscious after they teleported. He slowly rose to his feet, stretched and looked around.
He was in a cell, surrounded by chrome walls locked and guarded by two short creatures armored in blue.
Sontarans.
The alien technology in the aircraft, the hypnosis of the soldiers at the base, Eva's abduction: The Sontarans were behind it all.
But why? He wondered. What were they up to?
It certainly was not an invasion. Sontarans are typically aggressive. Hiding in secret was out of the question. Their sense of honor and love of war would never allow it. First thing was first. He needed to escape his prison, and find Eva.
"Ah, you are awake." Said one of the Sontarans. "That is good. The Commander has been growing impatient waiting on you. I shall notify him immediately."
"Wait a minute!" Exclaimed the Doctor. "Where's Eva?! What are you up to?"
The Sontaran ignored him and exited the cell, while the other one blocked the Doctor's path, his weapon at the ready.
Meanwhile, standing in the bridge of the ship, was the commander. His massive spacecraft rested high above the Earth, his soldiers ready for his orders. He looked with disgust at the pathetic mud ball of a planet, and the primitive beasts that inhabited it.
"Commander Kor, sir." Said the Sontaran.
Kor turned around. "What is it?"
"The Doctor is awake, sir."
"Excellent. I shall go to him at once."
He immediately marched toward the bridge exit, into the lift. Before stepping inside, he paused.
"Tell me, how is our little 'project' coming along?"
The Sontaran answered with pride. "All is ready, sir."
Kor chuckled. "Good."
The Doctor glared angrily at Kor as he entered the prison cell. Kor had his two escorts aim at the Doctor, in case he tried anything.
"You must be the Doctor." He said. "It is good to finally see the face of my enemy."
"Where is Eva?" The Doctor shouted back. "What have you done with her?!"
"A commander would be unwise to reveal his strategy to the enemy, however I will give you the honor of knowing my name." Kor replied. "I am Kor the Annihilator, commander of the 65th Special Sontaran Fleet."
The Doctor was unimpressed. "I don't care who you are." He said with annoyance. "Where's Eva?"
"This Eva you speak of, is no doubt a mere woman, correct? A warrior would be foolish to waste his energy on such a trivial thing."
"What do you want, then?" Asked the Doctor.
"To see you not only defeated, but utterly broken before your death."
With that, Kor turned and left. His escorts followed him, leaving only two guards at his cell door. The Doctor had to find a way to get past them.
My death. He thought to himself. The message from the future Doctor was still fresh in his mind. His memory flashed back to seeing his future self sitting in front of the screen, his final moments spent anguished and alone. This could be his fate too, and it terrified him.
