Chapter 17: Future Matthew
Tsuna was sitting next to Yamamoto in the living room. Dino was sitting across from them, looked awkward. Sitting next to the blond bronco was Matthew from ten years later. The brunet recalled the other Mafiaso's explaination from a few minutes ago. Apparently, Reborn sent over the Ten Year Bazooka because Lambo wasn't using it properly. And he doesn't want to deal with any more people from the future. But they didn't know that Matthew would think it as a toy and trigger the contraption.
The baby boy looked healthy and taller than Tsuna was when he was younger. His hair that was known to be flat was spiked up like Yamamoto's short black hair. His cheerful brown eyes sparkled with youth and innocence. He was wearing a plain white T-shirt with a zipped up blue jacket and jeans. The boy was smiling at his 'parents' in front of him like he used to when he was a baby.
"Papa Yamamoto and Mama Tsuna look really young and... Short." Matthew commented.
"What can we say? It's good to be young." Tsuna answered, sheepishly.
"But why am I back at Grandma Nana's home? Last time I visited you, it was back at Italy in the Vongola Mansion."
"Excuse me?"
Matthew explained the situation in the future. He was on vacation with his real parents that decided to visit his temporary parents in Italy. Matthew suggested the idea since they haven't seen each other since the winter holidays. And both Tsuna and Yamamoto were out because of work.
"But it's kind of strange to see you guys in casual clothes." Matthew commented.
"Why is that?" Yamamoto asked.
"You guys always wear a suit. And Papa Yamamoto is always carrying a sword with him. It's really awesome!"
Tsuna paled. He prayed to himself that his future self didn't involve Matthew into any Mafiaso business. He would be more than willing to submit to Reborn's torture than know Matthew was exposed to danger. That also applies to the rest of the children in this house. But they had already found themselves involved before meeting him. Tsuna sighed, wearily. Yamamoto patted him on the shoulder for reassurance.
"E-Either way, Reborn said something about it might malfunctioning because of Lambo's misuses. So, I don't know if the five minute limit is applied." Dino added.
"But five minutes already passed..." Yamamoto added.
Tsuna paled again. He couldn't imagine how his future self is handling the situation. One minute, Matthew was visiting but only to be switched with his baby version. Yamamoto smiled as he observed the young man in front of him. Matthew grew up well. He's healthy and fit from the sight of it. Yamamoto felt some sort of pride from it.
"Say, Matthew, are you in any sports club?"
"I'm in kendo. I was inspired when I watched you as a kid. You looked really cool whenever you're practicing."
Yamamoto smiled brightly. He was expecting Matthew to be in the baseball team like him, but kendo is just as good. Tsuna spared his friend an awkward smile when he caught him staring.
"I've been practicing a lot after school and with you whenever I get a chance. It's hard, but it's rewarding." Matthew smiled.
"I'm proud of you, Matthew. Before you know it, you'll be just like your father." Yamamoto laughed.
Matthew nodded his head excitedly. Tsuna mentally sighed in exhaustion. He was not ready for this. He had just gotten used to raising a baby. Now, he's with a young eleven year old for who knows for how long. Yamamoto didn't seem to mind the sudden change. Actually, he was just as excited.
The conversation continued on between Yamamoto and Matthew. Dino and Tsuna sat aside and watched the other two interact. It was a pleasant scene. Tsuna and Dino excused themselves and said they'll make snacks while the other two converse. They thought that making some sandwiches would be satisfying enough. The water was running with the tomatoes and lettuces getting washed.
"It's kind of weird how the circumstances came to be. What do you think is going to happen?" Dino asked.
"I don't know. I just hope it doesn't cause any problems later..."
"That's true. But you're really something to have this happening to you."
"It wouldn't if Reborn hadn't came into my life. He's out of this world. If it wasn't for him, my life would have been normal."
Tsuna smiled. He couldn't really imagine a life without Reborn. He could, but it wouldn't be as spectacular as his current life. Then again, he really doesn't want to have himself involved with the Mafia world. Dino looked down to the cutting board and position the knife. Tsuna watched carefully in case Dino cut his hand instead of the tomato.
They two finished making snacks ― Tsuna mostly took over because he was scared that Dino might hurt himself ― and brought it over to the other pair in the living room. Matthew and Yamamoto were discussing his and Yamamoto's relationship in the future. The brunet was not sure if he should say something or keep quiet. There should be some rule out there saying something about time travelling.
"So, how is it between Tsuna and I?"
"It's no different from now. You two are trying to make babies."
Tsuna nearly tripped on his two feet. He couldn't believe what he was hearing. In the future, he and Yamamoto are making babies? That was impossible. It's figuratively and literally impossible. They were both males. That is not scientifically possible. However, Tsuna became aware of his situation. He was in the Mafia world. If Reborn can make anything impossible happening, imagine what it's like in the Vongola Mansion. Tsuna paled.
"You two thought it was finally time to settle down and have your own child. Mama Tsuna is taking some pills to make it happen." Matthew explained.
"Is that so? Oh, that must be something. I hope Tsuna get pregnant soon." Yamamoto laughed.
Tsuna snapped his head towards Yamamoto, looking bewildered. He couldn't believe what he's hearing. Him, pregnant? He couldn't find the comical part to it. Actually, it was a terrifying thought that he is the one that is going to be knocked up and have a living being in his 'womb'. Dino gave the brunet an awkward smile. That was something he didn't need at the moment.
"Yamamoto, I don't think that's a good thing to say in front of Matthew." Tsuna stated.
"Why not? That's what going on in the future. And what's wrong with that? We're starting a family, aren't we?"
Tsuna was nearly gaping. Yamamoto had already accepted them being an item and starting their own family. He couldn't imagine something like that happening to him. He couldn't even approve it. Sure, he likes Yamamoto more than a friend. But having a baby? No, that wasn't something he was going to do in a long time, not even in the future.
"I just don't think we should be talking about stuff like that."
"Why not? We're doing it in the future. It's best to talk it now."
"We have Matthew. That's more than enough for me."
"But he's not exactly... Ours. He has his real parents with him."
Tsuna didn't understand why he's denying it. Was it because of him thinking Matthew could only be their own child? Was it because he doesn't want to be the one knocked up? Or was it because of Yamamoto? He furrowed his brows at the last one. That might be it. He had already admit to himself that he is in love with Yamamoto. But he was not sure what Yamamoto's feeling. The future had them settling down and beginning a family. That should say something, but it makes him feel doubtful. It was in the future, not the present. Things can change.
"Matthew will always be our child. I'm more than satisfied with that." Tsuna spatted.
"But it wouldn't be too bad of having one of our own, right?" Yamamoto asked.
Tsuna didn't answer him. All eyes were on him. They were waiting for an answer. The brunet turned away from their gaze and 'hmph'.
"I just think that this isn't the appropriate time to talk about something that serious." Tsuna answered.
"I want to talk about it now. Do you want to have a child with me?"
Tsuna was taken aback. He never thought this would turn on him and bite back. Yamamoto was staring at him with serenity and seriousness. The brunet didn't know what to say. He did, but he was not sure if saying so would cause some problems later. He knew that he needed to answer since Yamamoto was staring him down. He would have guessed that the Rain guardian would come after him later if he didn't answer now.
"No... I just... It's not something I would consider comfortable to do." Tsuna said.
"What do you consider uncomfortable?"
"The entire thing. The 'you and me together' and 'making a baby together' part. I think it's impossible since we're both guys. And there isn't anything going on between us now. And it doubt there will later."
Yamamoto didn't say anything.
Tsuna shifted in his seat. He wanted Yamamoto to say something that agreed with his statement. There is obviously nothing serious going on between them. He knew that there isn't going to be anything between them later in the future. And he had already suffered enough when Yamamoto proclaimed that it was nothing to be considered serious. It was painfully heartbreaking. That's the reason why he's saying that.
Yamamoto stood up from his spot and excused himself from the living room, saying that he's tired. Tsuna kept his eyes on him till the Rain guardian was gone. His attention turned back to Dino and Matthew. They had an uncomfortable expression on them.
"What? Is there something wrong with what I said?" Tsuna asked.
"Well, Mama Tsuna, I think... You really wanted to have a baby. I don't get why you don't now. Papa Yamamoto was really hoping you would after many attempts." Matthew explained.
"Of course, I don't. It's complicated right now and this topic is meant to private. It's between me and your father."
"But you have to think about it, Tsuna. There must be a reason why you want one later on." Dino added.
Tsuna didn't want to talk about it anymore. He knew what he wanted. He knew what his and Yamamoto's relationship is like now. They were friends, bottom line. And adding a baby was out of the question. He doesn't even know what his relationship with Yamamoto is like in the future. It probably more than friends if they're considering having a child together. But that was not the point.
"You guys eat. I want to talk to your Papa Yamamoto about something."
Tsuna left his spot and went out of the living room. He went up the stairs to the second floor. He walked down the hall to his shared bedroom with Yamamoto. He debated if he should knock or go straight in. He decided on going in anyways. He opened and closed the door once he was inside. There was a large lump on the bed, covered by the blanket.
"Yamamoto..." Tsuna called out.
No answer.
"I'm sorry about what I said downstairs. But you have to think about it. Us having a kid isn't happening."
Still, no answer. Tsuna sighed and walked over to his side of the bed. He carefully sat down on the bed, looking over his shoulder. Yamamoto didn't move when the bed shifted from Tsuna's weight.
"I don't get why it upsets you. There isn't anything going on between us. We're just acting as Matthew's parents and we're friends."
Yamamoto removed the blanket off him and sat up. He stared at the brunet.
"Okay, let's talk." Yamamoto answered.
