Chapter 20
Rin was fuming. She couldn't even enjoy the movie with Shippo. All she could think about was what she just saw. Naraku had been on a date. He was cheating on Sesshoumaru and of all the people he had to pick Kikyo?
Of course Rin wasn't jealous. They had been broken up for more than two years now. Of course things had ended badly and there was still unresolved tension between them….. Anyway she was with Shippo now. The point was that Naraku had taken the act farther than necessary.
She could understand flirting in the office to keep up appearances but there was no reason he needed to go out with her. What would her dad think? He be heartbroken. His first real relationship since…. Thinking about it she has never seen her dad date anybody. All the more reason this was so terrible.
Rin know her father was a very reserved man. When she had first found out he had been secretly dating Naraku she had been so surprised. First because she had no idea her dad was gay and second because Naraku's personality was so different from his but after the shock had died down she was overjoyed for her father. He had finally found someone to be intimate with.
Ever since Naraku had showed up her father had been acting different. The changes were subtle but she had picked up on them. After that night she had caught him, the changes became even more noticeable. Even Inuyasha, who could be a little dense, picked up on them.
His usually cold eyes would have a little spark to them. His face had more warmth and he smiled for no reason sometimes. Before her father always had this tense atmosphere around him. His eyes would dart around every room he entered, as if searching for something. He still did it but now it was out of habit. It was like he had found what he was looking for. She had assumed it was Naraku.
And now the man her father loved was cheating on him with his daughter's secret X lesbian lover. You could make soap obras about things like this.
"Rin, is the movie to scary for you? Your hand is trembling. We can leave if you want."
Shippo who had been holding her hand gently squeezed it trying to calm her.
"Oh I'm sorry Shippo. I'm fine. I promise." She gave him a reassuring smile.
She hadn't realized they were watching a scary movie. She wasn't even paying attention. She also had know she was trembling. Was it in anger at Naraku or fear for her father's feelings?"
Taking a deep breath she tried to calm herself. Maybe it wasn't as bad as she thought. Maybe Naraku wasn't cheating on Sesshoumaru. It was possible he had a valid excuse for going out with Kikyo. Maybe she pressured him into it and to keep up the act he agreed.
Rin realized that she might be jumping to conclusions. If she told her father about this before she knew the whole story he might over react and end the first relationship he's had in a long time…. Or ever. After all she had been with him since she was a small child and not once had she seen her father spent time with anyone. He never talked about anyone, or mentioned people from work…except for Naraku.
Instead of telling Sesshoumaru immediately she would wait and watch. She'd keep a close eye on Naraku and Kikyo.
…..
Naraku sat down on the floor in front of the coffee table. A mug of hot coffee was placed in front of him. Awkwardly he looked at it. Sango was sitting across the table from him. She had her hair tied back in a braid and wore no makeup. She never really liked make up like other girls, but her braids were amazing. Each strand was in place and she coud make the most complicate braids that put fish tails to shame. Immerged in her braid was bright red ribbon so well wrapped into the hair you think it was a highlight.
Kirara her two tailed cat was sitting on her lap. She never went anywhere without that cat.
Kana was at school and Kagura was in the kitchen preparing some snacks. So the two were left alone in silence.
"So…." Sango was the first to break the ice. "I heard you were really sick recently. Glad to see your feeling better."
"Yea, my boss tried to poison me. Luckily I don't die so easily. I'm just trying to rest up before his next strike. He's already tried to over work me to death."
Sango chuckled. "Sound rough. I never thought you be the hard working type."
Naraku sgrugged his shoulders and smiled. "I do what I have to do now. Someone's gotta bring home the bacon."
"I heard Rin had brought home the ham the other day."
"So Kagura told you about that. It wasn't a big deal. She just wanted to take it home for later. The food was really good at that party."
"You did always like parties." Her tone was more of a sad sigh before she perked back up again. "Im sure she's just going through a stage. I got into tons of fights with boys when I was a kid.
"Kagura told you about that to?"
"We've been spending lots of times together."
"I told her the same thing but you know how she is."
"How is who" Kagura walked in carrying cookies.
"No body." They both said in union. This triggered a fit of laughter from both of them.
Smiling warmly Kagura pored them tea. "Kind of like when we were kids huh."
"Yea it is. You and I spending our afternoon's drinking tea and bandaging Naraku and Bankotsu because they got into another fight with Hiten and his gang." She giggled. "That reminds me. Did you hear that Hiten was killed the other day?"
"What seriously. Are you sure Sango?" Naraku asked surprised.
"Yea, it was all over the news, I'm surprised you didn't know."
"I didn't. It's weird to think that his ass is finally gone. He had it coming but…."
Kagura placed a hand on his shoulder. "I know you guys weren't friends but you did have a lot of memories together. You spent years fighting each other."
"Yea, we spent our whole childhood trying to knock each other's teeth out." Naraku shrugged his shoulders. "Well it was gonna happen eventually; I'm surprised he wasn't knocked off earlier."
"Naraku! Don't be so cruel to the dead." His sister scolded.
"Well it's true. He was never very careful like Bankostu's and me. If you think about it were lucky to be alive too. Especially me. I should be dead or in jail but by some miracle I'm not."
"I guess you're right. In a way losing everything might have saved our lives." Kagura zipped from her tea.
Sango looked down. She knew of Naraku's dark and tragic history. She was there for some of them. They had all grown up together. Naraku and his sister were rich kids and she had come from a poor family. They met by chance when Sango had snuck into a high society party. Naraku had asked her to dance, even thought she had come in with sneakers and jeans and everybody was wearing formals clothes. That was the start of their young love.
Of course their love was different. They had been in an off and on relationship since they were ten. In their early twenties they had marries and at twenty three they divorced. Sango had suspected he was cheating on her. The biggest reason was because Naraku couldn't leave his family business. She had spent whole night's awake worried about him.
Not being able to handle the stress she decided to leave him knowing Naraku would never give up his ways.
"At least you guys are still together. Everything else can be replaced but not family."
"Your right Sango. We have been feeling sorry for our self for way to long. At least we got each other." Kagura said.
"So Naraku how was your date with Kikiyo." Sango chirped.
"Kagura told you that to huh?" he sent an annoyed look to his sister. "Well it went fine, we saw a movie and talked. It was nice."
"That's it?" She lifted an eyebrow.
"Why so nosy, don't tell me you're jealous?" he smirked.
"No, just curious. Bankotsu tells me Kikiyo is the most popular girl in school and that you are the hot new bad boy, who survived the mean principle and gets away with breaking all the rules. Everyone is talking about."
"Well when you put it like that I sound pretty cool but in reality I'm the boss's whipping boy. He seems to enjoy tormenting me more than the other employes."
"Now Naraku that's not fair. Sesshoumaru was very nice to you when you got sick." Kagura said.
"Yea to nice." He whispered to himself.
"What was that?"
"Nothing, just wondering about Hiten. He must have pissed someone off real bad."
"Yea, any ideas, you always knew everything back in the day?"
He shook his head. "I lost my connections a long time ago. After my dad was put away it was safer for me to disappear. I could probably find out in a week but that would mean entering the underworld again and I don't want to get involved in that again."
"Smartest thing you ever said." Sango chuckled.
"But if I had to guess I say it was someone working under Sesshoumaru."
"What no way. Sesshoumaru would never do something like that." Kagura crossed her arms. "It was probably some one Hiten owned money too."
"Sis, you forget that Sesshoumaru is the reason we are like this. He may act all nice and gentlemanly but he's worse than father. Only another monster can take down a monster. I wish I could get a chance to get back at him but it's too risky."
"I was surprised to find out you were working for him." Finished with her tea, Sango gently rubbed behind Kirara's ear.
Naraku shrugged his shoulders. "I was desperate and it's not like he knows who I am. All I have to do is save enough money to go to America. There me and my sister can start over. With all my experience I'm sure to get a high paying job."
"That plan can't possibly go wrong."Kagura said sarcastically.
The conversation went all till Rin came home from school. After that Kagura had to go.
