The Eagle and the Hawk

I am the eagle, I live in high country,

In rocky cathedrals that reach to the sky,

I am the hawk and there's blood on my feathers,

But time is still turning, they soon will be dry,

And all those who see me, and all who believe in me,

Share in the freedom I feel when I fly!

Come dance with the west wind,

And touch all the mountain tops,

Sail o'er the canyons, and up to the stars,

And reach for the heavens, and hope for the future,

And all that we can be, not what we are.

— John Denver

Greetings!

The above song lyrics are the introduction to my newest addition of this ongoing 'saga', I guess you would call it. This is one of the few songs that can truly move me. I grew up listening to John Denver (among other artists) and whenever we would travel to the Rockies, his 'An Evening with John Denver' 8-Track Tape (yes, you read that correctly) would go with us and seeing the Rocky Mountains start to crest the horizon while listening to this was something that always made my spirits soar. (If you can find it on YouTube, take a listen to it.)

The new story is called 'Eagle and the Hawke'.

For those of you that have followed this work and wondered why things have been so slow, let's just say that this last year has been a whirlwind in my life. In 2015, I had taken a job to work for a lawyer, a one man operation. I can honestly say, that was one of the worst jobs in my life. Learned a lot but hated it with a passion. By the beginning of December 2015, I'd accepted a job to become a 'government worker' for the local county. It's a great job and I love it, however it can keep you hopping at times so I write when I get a few minutes to spare.

But you might ask, what about writing at home like many do? This year has been ... intense and stressful to say the least, making it even more difficult to write at home. Hubby and I came home on December 26th from having Christmas at my parents to find water pouring out of our dining room ceiling in our 115 year old home from an overflowing toilet tank on the top floor (of course). 5,600 gallons of water later that had been sucked out, along with the gutting of one bathroom, one bedroom, the living room and the destruction of our stuff in the basement (thankfully unfinished), we were unable to live in our house for almost 4 months while it was being restored. Since we moved back in mid-April, we've been trying to put our house back together. In between then and now we've had to prepare for our 20th Wedding Anniversary party (people came from all over the US), dealing with my husband's 3 day hospital stay (in which they tried to kill him with penicillin that he told them several times he was allergic to), flash flooding that soaked part of our new carpeting in the walk-out basement, the loss of our old, deaf cat, surgery for a dog, and the adoption of a kitten (I think she's part monkey actually or perhaps a Tasmanian Devil in disguise.). I think I lost my sanity somewhere in there.

So, in the mean time between all of this, I've been dreaming and scheming. I hope you continue to enjoy this series and reviews are always welcome.

Thanks for being patient and sticking with me through all of this!
