Miss Not-So-Popular

Chapter 20

Annabeth Chase

.::.

Twenty minutes later my mom, Frank, Hazel, and I were sitting in the hospital cafeteria, each of us had a Styrofoam cup of black, tar-like coffee that nobody really felt like drinking.

Percy had texted me a couple hours ago, and when I hadn't responded he'd been texting me nonstop with worry. After I finally responded, telling him what happened; he said he was on his way.

Percy arrived within thirty minutes; he would've been quicker, but the roads were still pretty bad from all the snow and slush.

"I'm just glad you're here." I whispered, finding comfort in his strong arms, I felt him hug my back as one of his hands ran soothingly through my messy hair.

"How's she doing?" He asked after we'd let go of each other and sat back down.

"She's pretty banged up, but the doc says she'll be fine. Only family is allowed in her ward until she wakes up." Frank explained, fiddling with his coffee cup. Hazel put a hand on his arm and smiled reassuringly at him.

"All we can do is hope and pray she'll have a healthy recovery." My mother reminded us, causing all four heads to bob in unison. She smiled softly then excused herself to go to the bathroom.

"I never expected to ever see Reyna so vulnerable." Mused Hazel quietly, she absentmindedly fiddled with the wooden popsicle stick she'd used to stir a packet of sugar that sat on the plastic table into her coffee before taking a sip. "No matter what the scenario she would stay strong."

"Yeah, she didn't even cry when we were in fourth grade and she broke her arm in gym class." I giggled, placing a hand on Percy's knee and leaning my head on his tall shoulder.

"I remember that. Didn't she run into a wall or something?" Frank asked.

"She actually prefers the term 'pushed' but yeah pretty much." I responded, letting out a laugh and feeling Percy's shoulder shake as he joined in.

"Even though I haven't known her long she's always seemed like a sort of glue that keeps people together." Percy said quietly and I looked up at him with a smile.

"Everyone! Come on, Reyna's awake!" My mom sped-walk over by us, and within seconds we all pushed back our chairs and darted towards Reyna's room, ignoring the complaints of the women watching over the front desk.

When we arrived at her room we saw her sitting up, dark eyes wide-open, well…eye, one was swollen shut. I could hear Percy gasp as he caught first sight of her, earning himself a sharp elbow in the ribs from me.

Reyna smiled weakly when she saw us all and I rushed to her bedside. "Oh my gosh Rey you had me worried sick! You could of died!" I scolded gently, taking her hand in mine.

"Did you really just come in here to yell at me?" she complained sarcastically, her voice quiet and raspy.

"No of course not. I love you, you little Twihard." I joked, squeezing her hand gently.

"How you doing honey?" My mom asked after she'd finished the quiet conversation she'd been having with Bellona, who sat in one of the room chairs next to Hylla.

"Considering I just got in a car accident, surprisingly good." Reyna muttered, looking at my mom.

"Great." My mom smiled before continuing to talk to Bella.

"Hey guys." Reyna greeted Hazel, Frank, and Percy, beckoning for them come over. They all surrounded her bedside and looked uneasily at her, most likely not wanting to stress her out. "Don't worry I'm not going to break, it's not like I'm a China Doll." We all laughed, glad to have Reyna becoming her old sarcastic self again.

Reyna wasn't allowed to leave the hospital for another week, I visited her everyday, bringing her homework and telling her anything she'd missed while she was out.

Finally, she was released and she left the hospital in a wheel chair on a bright, sunny, cold day. She wasn't allowed to go to school for a while because she needed rest, but at least she'd be home for it. She'd hated the hospital, not even being able to go to the bathroom without assistance.

Hazel and I were at her house the second night she'd been home (the first was A: a school night and B: Bellona wanted her to have some quiet time at home to adjust after being cooped up in a tiny room for a week.), Reyna was lying on her bed, her foot propped up to keep it elevated. Hazel was situated on the foot of the bed, only half her body was hanging upside down, causing her face to turn dark red and her curly hair to hang down so that it touched the ground.

I sat on Reyna's desk chair, my eye's fixated on the TV screen as I spooned chocolate ice cream into my mouth. We'd decided to have a super dorky, cliché girly sleepover with chick flicks, junk food and gossip magazines.

We were currently watching Fifty First Dates with Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, and each of us had a mini tub of ice cream. Magazines and nail polishes scattered the hot pink carpeting of her room making it a floor hard to navigate.

"Guys, I feel really left out." Reyna complained, throwing her sixth magazine on the floor in exasperation.

"What do you mean?" Asked Hazel, pulling her self rightways up to look at her.

"You both have boyfriends! And I'm a pathetic single pringle!"

"Honey, you don't need a boyfriend. Boys are incredibly stupid." I chimed in.

"Hey! Frank's smart!" Said Hazel, crossing her arms at me.

"Fine. Boys, minus Frank, are incredibly stupid."

"I know but I want one. Do any of you have any cute relatives you could set me up with?"

"Nope, all I've got is a cat. And Mitten's is a girl." Hazel giggled, brushing her fingers through her curly nest of hair.

"Hey, my cousin Malcolm is moving down from Albany in a couple months. How about him?" I asked, clicking my spoon against my cartoon of ice cream.

"I met your cousin Malcolm four years ago at the science fair. He was a gangly, curly haired dweeb with huge glasses and acne." Reyna scoffed.

"Hey, I resent that. That's my cousin we're talking about, and plus I used to be a dweeb with glasses two, and a lot can change in four years." I winked at her, she didn't know what she was getting into. "Tell you what, he's coming by next weekend to spend the weekend at my place while his mom's away on business. We'll go out to lunch, get reacquainted and see what you think from there." I smirked and looked at her.

"Fine, but if I hate it and he's still unable to talk to me because A: he's way too awkward and B: he's got a huge mouth piece of braces, you owe $20."

AN: Heyyyyy! Yeah! Chapter 20! Reyna's out of the hospital! Sorry for the time skip in the middle, I didn't know what to write before her getting out so yeah. New character's coming! Malcolm! I know in the books he's Annabeth's brother but that's just a weird drama thing I don't feel like writing. Reyna's also being a little shallow! Whoops!

I have so many ideas for future chapters! I literally wrote a list while writing this chapter! Sorry for not updating last week, I've been swamped.

Thank you so much for all the support you guys have given me as I've decided to start this story up again, it honestly means the world to me!

Too any old readers, welcome back, to new readers welcome! I hope you enjoyed this chapter and if so make sure to leave me a present and review! I love you all and continue to read so I can continue to write! Lol, never gonna stop that am I? Nope!

Lots of Love!
