Chapter 24

Annabeth Chase

The day we were set to head off to Montauk, the skies were clear and blue and sunny. The air was dense with humidity, and the day was going to be hot, perfect for summer. Sally and Paul had rented us a van as a treat, and it was a perfect fit for the huge group we were taking and all the luggage.

It was a three hour drive from New York City to Montauk and we were prepared to make the best of it. Me, Percy, Jason, Leo, Piper, Frank, Calypso, Reyna, Hazel and Malcolm all piled into the large white van at eight in the morning and set off through the bustling streets of the city.

Percy was at the wheel, and I was at shotgun and in charge of the summer tunes playlist. I enjoyed looking back in the rearview mirror and seeing all of my best friends in the two rows of seats behind me. Frank was snoring on Hazel's shoulder while she doodled in a sketchbook. Reyna was entertaining Piper and Callie with her celebrity impersonations, Jason was reading an ESPN magazine and Malcolm and Leo were playing Eye Spy out the window.

"Okay, okay. I spy with my little eye, something," Leo said, pausing for a minute, "black."

"That crow on the sign we just passed." Malcolm replied with a smirk.

"Damn." Leo swore, "You're too good at this game."

"Sorry." Malcolm shrugged.
"It's not his fault, our family is just naturally intelligent." I twisted to look at Leo, he stuck his tongue out at me and Callie ruffled his hair playfully.

"Okay, you wanna play 'Guess the Song'?" I asked, holding up my phone.

"Hell yeah! Throw it at me!" Leo cried, rubbing his hands together. Everybody else chimed in except Frank who was still passed out on Hazel.

I let out a laugh and went to my Music App. "Okay. Our genre's include: 70s, 80s & 90s Rock, New and Old Pop, Today's Hits, and Showtunes!" I said in my best game show announcement voice. Percy chuckled and shook his head. "I'll take Pop for 300 Annabeth." He diverted his eyes off the road for a second and winked at me.

I began to play the clip of a song and made sure no one was able to see the title or album art over my shoulder. The group paused for a minute before Hazel shouted out, "Into You; Ariana Grande!"

"Correct!" I replied, and the group let out an over enthusiastic cheer, causing Frank to jerk awake.

"Pigs can't fly!" he yelled, causing a confused look to cross his face and the whole group to burst out in laughter.

The game continued on for a large portion time until I decided that it was time for the Bonus Round. Nobody had chosen Showtunes yet, which led me to believe that nobody knew anything about theater or musicals or anything. I wouldn't play anything from a Disney show, that'd be too easy. Instead I selected 'Red and Black' From Les Miserables. I wasn't a total Broadway Nerd, but I liked Les Mis because it was about the History of the French Revolution and had a great plotline, making it one of my favorite movies.

The song continued to play and nobody said nothing. I let out a laugh, "You guys are all totally uncultured."

"Well, sorry. I live near Broadway, I've just never been in a theater!" Jason protested.

We stopped for a bathroom break at a gas station about halfway through the ride, grabbing some coffee and junk food to eat along the way. Plus everyone needed a break to stretch their legs.

Finally, we reached our destination. I let out a breath of excitement. Montauk was more beautiful than I'd ever imagined. Sally and Paul had rented us two of the more roomy cabins, this way we'd be more comfortable with the large group we had. It was set that the girls would be in one cabin and the boys in the other. If it was one thing Sally and Paul did not want, it was five teenage couples sleeping together.

Each cabin had one room with two bunk beds and a little nightstand with a lamp on it. There was a tiny bathroom, and an open concept living room and kitchen with a pull out couch, boxy TV, stove and mini fridge.

"This is amazing." Said Reyna as we walked into our respected cabin. There were huge windows covering the walls that let lots of light in, brightening up the place.

"Come on, we can unpack later. Let's hit the beach!" Callie cheered, dropping her luggage and sprinting out into the sun. We all followed in suit and saw the boys had the same idea. We charged into the ocean, fully clothed and splash each other mercilessly. I felt Percy's strong arms grab my waist from behind and spin me around. I shrieked and pounded his arms crying out for his to let me go. He finally did, dropping me in the surf.

"You Seaweed Brain!" I screamed kicking at his shin. I was already soaked so me sitting in the water didn't really affect me. But he dropped me, he had to pay. "I'm gonna get you!" I charged after him and finally pulled him down another couple feet down the beach. He looked so cute down there, lying in the water, sand in his hair and on his face.

"You got me Wise Girl, do your worst." He chuckled and got up.

"With pleasure." I wrapped my arm around his neck and stood on my tiptoes to passionately kiss him.

"Oh, so weak!" He said feigning sickness. He smiled then kissed me again, his lips soft and gentle.

"Yo! Lovebirds! Come over here and helps us build the most kick ass sand castle this beach has ever seen!" Frank yelled.

We chuckled and ran over to meet them.

We went back to the cabins sunburnt, wet, and with sand everywhere. We decided to hang out in the guy's cabin and have some frozen pizza after unpacking all of our stuff. Everyone sat on the floor in a circle in the living room, each couple sharing a blanket.

"Guys, we're gonna be seniors." Frank said seriously, causing all of us to groan.

"If it's anywhere near as dramatic as this year was, count me out." I said, laughing and leaning into Percy's chest.

"At least we're rid of Tara forever! She's going to Canfield Academy up the street." Reyna cheered.

"Hear Hear!" The group chimed.

I stole a slice of pizza from the center of the floor and picked off a pepperoni, sticking it in my mouth. Looking around the group, I saw all the faces of my best friends in the entire world and was glad that we all came together this year. It was one of the bright spots in the shadows of this year. I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with these people, for they were the best I'd ever meet.

AN: Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiii. *hides behind chair sheepishly while all of you throw pies and rotten fruit and chairs at me.* I'M SO SORRY FOR NOT UPDATING IN MONTHS AND MONTHS AND EVERYTHING! I just had a really, really tough freshman year. So many things happened and snowballed out of control and I just didn't have the time or motivation to write anything. And I feel awful. But recently, I've gotten back into Fanfiction, and I wanted to update because I've left you all hanging for so long. It's gonna take me a little time to get back into writing and into the swing of things. I like this chapter, it's got some group and Percabeth Fluff. I didn't like the ending too much but it's okay. It's okay, I'll get better.

If you like this chapter review! It'll definitely make my day!

Love Always
