Chapter 2: Red Ink pt 1

It had been three days since Ozpin and Ruby collided in the hall and now, teams RWBY and JNPR were starting their Thursday morning classes just like any other day.

"Hello Ruby." Said Pyrrha as she sat down for class.

"Oh, hey Pyrrha how's it going?"

"I'm fine thank you. I bet you're excited for tomorrow huh?"

"Yep, I can't believe I'm turning 16 already!" Ruby replied, a large smile splitting her cheeks.

Yang pulled Ruby in for a bone crushing hug. "Yep my baby sis is growing up."

"So what do you plan to do for this special day?" Jaune asked, plopping into the seat beside Pyrrha's. He looked at her questioningly, waiting for a reply.

"Yang is taking us to a club somewhere." Blake said, when she noticed that Ruby hadn't heard the question. Ren perked up at that, his magenta eyes tinged with amusement.

"Dance club? I should think Ruby isn't old enough for any clubs, she's only 16 after all." He said.

"That's what I said." Weiss butted in. The sentence was punctuated with a roll of her eyes.

Yang huffed, glaring at her. "Don't worry, I know a guy." She said smugly.

Flashback to two nights ago

A man in a black bowler hat and a red tie was thrown through a club's window which caused Junior to look up from his place at the bar. The man looked at the pieces of broken glass strewn all over the floor and sighed.

"Oh great." He grumbled. "Not this again."

The club doors suddenly burst opened in a blaze of flames and in walked Yang Xiao Long. She struck a pose, smirking as her eyes met with his.

"Howdy Junior. Long time no see huh?" she said as she skipped down the stairs.

"You know blondie, you could just walk in here." Junior said with a small glare.

"Yeah but it's more fun this way!"

At her answer, Junior just let out another sigh, rubbing his temples. "What do you want now? You know that ever since Roman switched sides I've gone out of the crime business."

"I'm not here for info Junior," Yang said while walking up to the bar, "Strawberry Sunrise." She told him, smiling when he grumbled but still went about to make her drink. "Anyway, my little sister's coming of age party is coming up and I want to host it here."

"You mean 'little red'?" He asked, glancing up briefly.

"No I mean Nora. Of course I mean Ruby." Yang said while rolling her eyes, "Look I'm prepared to pay whatever price–"

"No need," Junior interrupted. "I'll do it."

"Really?" Yang replied, looking slightly shocked. Wow, that was easier than she'd ever hoped.

"Yeah." He nodded. "If it weren't for her, Roman would still be working for that psycho pyromaniac and wouldn't have found his one of his mates, so as thanks, I'll help host little red's party."

She grinned. "Junior, you're nothing but a big softie aren't you?" Yang teased.

"Yeah, but don't tell Roman though." Junior blushed. "He'll never shut up about it."

"Don't worry your, secret's safe with me." She winked, grabbing the drink that Junior slid across the bar table.

Time skip to Friday

Ruby woke up to something, or someone sitting on her bed.

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY LITTLE SIS, TIME TO GET UP!" Yang cheered from her position at the end of Ruby's bed. The yell made the leader of RWBY wince briefly, but she recovered quickly. Her excitement was too much to be dampened by something like that.

"Thanks sis." Ruby said, rubbing the sleep out of her eyes as she sat up.

"Happy birthday Ruby." Blake told her when she descended from the top bunk.

Weiss huffed. "Yeah, congrats on not getting killed by now." Though her words seemed harsh, they were greatly offset by the smile on her face.

Yang jumped down from the spot on Ruby's bed and embraced her little sister in a tight hug.

"Thanks, you guys!" Ruby laughed happily, when she'd finally pushed Yang off of her.

The heiress stood from her own seat, brushing the imaginary dust off her skirt. "Alright lets head down to eat." She said, looking over them. "I'm famished."

Team RWBY was soon on their way to breakfast where they met up with team JNPR, who all greeted Ruby with 'happy birthday', their wishes varying in degrees of excitement. The rest of the school day was filled with many other birthday wishes for Beacon's youngest student, and even a few teachers wished her well. It wasn't until the last period of the day when Ruby was unable to contain her excitement bouncing in her seat as she waited for school to end. Team JNPR was in a similar state as well, having been invited to Ruby's party.

Finally, the last bell rang, making all of them jump up in excitement.

"Finally!" Yang exclaimed, "Come on sis let's go get all dolled up for your party."

"We'll meet you guys at the gates okay?" Blake told team JNPR as her blonde partner dragged all members of team RWBY away.

"Sounds good" called Nora, the girl grinning with excitement. With that, both teams walked (or skipped) back to their dorms to get ready.

At precisely seven pm, both teams were at the gates; dressed and ready to go. They were supposed to take the air ship into the city. The girls were wearing dresses similar to the one's they wore at the school dance and the guys were wearing causal dress clothes.

"Look there's Sun and Neptune" said Ruby, when she spotted a familiar mop of shaggy blonde hair and a coiffed blue one.

"Hey guys, happy birthday Ruby!" Sun grinned, shooting Ruby a thumbs up.

"Yeah, happy birthday! So are we ready to party or what?" Neptune asked, puffing his chest out proudly.

With a loud cheer that could've shattered eardrums, the teens boarded the docked aircraft and were finally on their way to Junior's. They arrived at their destination at around seven forty, and by eight they had arrived at the club and were there and dancing the night away.

"Happy birthday little red." Junior said, his attention partially on watching the signal kids which Yang had invited, trickling in with joyous looks painted across their youthful faces.

"Thanks Junior!" Ruby chirped, leaning against the counter.

"Hey Ruby, at what time were you born?" asked Nora as she walked up to the two, claiming the empty spot beside her friend.

Ruby looked down at her wrist. "At ten." She said.

"Oh! So yours probably won't activate till you're asleep." said Junior.

"Most likely." Ruby replied with a shrug. Just then, the club's DJ began to play the song 'Red like Roses' and the crimson haired girl was abruptly pulled onto the dance floor by an old signal friend, laughing all the way. Yang and Blake left the dance floor and went to stand by Junior.

"Once again Junior, thanks." The boxer said softly, as she watched her sister enjoying herself to the fullest.

"No problem." He replied, his eyes flitting over to them. Taking in the way Blake stood protectively beside Yang, he had a hunch that they were more than just friends. "Er, Quick question. Are you two…?" he gestured at them both awkwardly.

"Yep soulmates. How did you guess?" Yang laughed, amused at how…cute the man was acting.

"Well, she's been following you around all night like a dog."

"Hey!" Blake growled, baring her teeth.

Junior held his hands up, taking a tiny step back. Poor choice of words, on his part.

"Calm down Kitty." Yang sighed. "Oi, don't call my mate a dog you ass."

Junior nodded apologetically. "So, are you guys complete or-"

"No we're still looking for our third." She sighed. Seeing the depressed look on her face, Blake let out a small sigh of her own before wrapping her in a hug.

Blake frowned gloomily. "It sucks."

"Tell me about it." Junior said with a snort, surprising them both.

"Hey wait, are you a poly-lover too?" Blake looked at him curiously. It wasn't very common that one had more than one soulmate. It wasn't that they were difficult to find per say, it was just that people couldn't be identified as a poly lover unless they were asked about it, or all the mates were all over each other when they were out in public.

"Yep, I've been waiting for years. The worst part is seeing others" Junior moaned, looking slightly depressed as he shook his head.

"Aww you really are a big softie." Yang cooed, stepping forward to hug Junior. As she did, her bare arm came in contact with covered one, and the skin on her right arm started to burn slightly.

"UGH!" She yelped, surprised by the sudden burning sensation.

Junior was feeling the same pain in his arm as well and quickly rolled up his sleeve to see Yang Xiao Long in red ink wrapped around his wrist. Surprise overrode all emotions, and he stared at his wrists for a full minute before looking up to see Yang staring at her own wrist, where his name was printed in red ink.

Then he looked to Blake and rolled up his left sleeve. She sprang forward, a feeling of tension flowing through her as she reached out and touched his arm just like Yang had did before. With a prickling sensation erupting from her wrist, her face broke into a large smile when she saw his name printed there in red ink as well.

"Do you have any idea how long we waited for you?! AND YOU WERE RIGHT HERE ALL ALONG!" Yang exclaimed, looking partly pissed but mostly overjoyed. Junior stared at his mates in bewilderment, not bothering to hide the smile on his face.

"Roman's gonna get a kick out of this."
