"My ghost
Where'd you go?
I can't find you in the body sleeping next to me
My ghost
Where'd you go?
What happened to the soul you used to be?"
-Ghost.
-Halsey.
Rick had sent the council members to notify people about the meeting. He'd also made a few signs and hung them in the busiest locations like the cafeteria and center square.
Mostly everyone was out to listen to what Rick had to say. The council members stood in the middle of center square as people gathered around them.
The council was down on members. Michonne was gone, Daryl was down for the count, and Tyreese was dead. Their usual seven was down to three as Rick, Carol and Abraham stood in the middle to address us. I wondered where Glenn was.
"Hey," I heard Sasha say as she came to stand next to me.
"Oh, hi," I said surprised. "I thought you were on perimeter."
"No, it's Rosita and Carl."
"Rosita?" I asked. "I thought she wasn't allowed to do that since her last incident." she had allowed walkers to wander into the camp and the council had fired her. If she couldn't keep walkers out then how could she keep real monsters away?
She shrugged, squinting into the sun. "Yeah, I don't know but they're up there. I guess they had to give her another shot for some reason."
I kept the truth to myself and Sasha continued to make conversation.
"So they're finally gonna talk about it huh?" she asked.
I shrugged. "I guess."
"What?" she scoffed. "Oh, don't even act like Glenn hasn't dissected this meeting for you. Can't you fill me in on what they're gonna say?"
I shook my head. "No, I'm not talkin' to Glenn right now."
She looked confused. "Why?" she asked. "He just got back right? I thought you two would be inseparable."
I heard people separate behind us, making way for someone. Glenn squeezed his way through the crowd.
"Excuse me, sorry." He said, giving soft smiles to the people he brushed and bumped in to.
He pushed past people until he saw me. Almost, but not quite, pausing, he looked at me and nodded. "Maggie."
I didn't let me expression change, instead, I looked away from him. He continued through the crowd until he stood in the center. The air that followed him smelled fresh and clean. I thought about what had happened in the shower today.
"Damn," Sasha said. "You really aren't speaking."
I crossed my arms. "Nope." I said. "We sure aren't."
"Alright," I heard Abraham bellow. "We're gonna get started here."
The crowd quietly hushed as the meeting started.
"I'm sure most have you heard by now that Glenn and Daryl have both returned to camp." The crowd clapped and Glenn gave a shy smile.
I couldn't help but smile back at him.
"That being said, I'm sure most of you have heard what happened to Daryl when they were gone." Everyone was silent. Rick continued. "Now, I know that we've been through Hell these past few weeks. That we've-we've been suffering." he said. "This happened to Daryl, Bob and Tyreese died...Michonne is gone."
He took a long pause and I wasn't sure if he was going to continue. The other council members didn't look like they knew what to say.
"But," Abraham started. "We can pull together and take down these sons 'a bitches before they take any more of ours." he eyed Rick.
Rick nodded. "Yeah, yeah." he started. "After what they've done to us, after what they've taken from us," he shook his head. "Life is a privilege that they don't get anymore."
I heard people around me whisper, excited by the news that we were going to take out the bad guys. However, I knew that if Rick was going to send groups out to find them, Glenn would go out again too.
He eyed me from where he stood, knowing that I didn't like what Rick was saying.
"So here's what I need from you all to make this work," Rick started. "I need you in classes and paying attention, especially the adults. With so many people of ours gone I'm going to be taking more of you out there with me."
"Wait," I heard someone say. "Are you asking us to risk our lives for Michonne's?" a man said, stepping forward.
Rick nodded, without missing a beat. "She would do the same for you. She fights for this place and for our people everytime she has to. This time we have to fight for her."
"The crew we normally take on runs includes Daryl, Tyreese, and Michonne. Our group is practically in half now." Abe said.
"So, we need you to step up." Rick said. "We'll be posting a sign up sheet next to the shift chart in the council room for anyone who thinks they'd like to help. You'll have to pass an exam from Carol in order to go. I don't want any accidents happening on the road."
I scoffed. "Accidents already have happened on the road." a few people turned to look at me. I saw Glenn and Rick eye me and I didn't realize I had been so loud. Then again, I didn't care.
"If no one signs up, then we'll recruit." Rick said. "But I'd hope you'd want these people dead as much as I do. God knows, they deserve it."
The crowd grumbled in agreement.
I shook my head. I knew that if Rick asked Glenn would go right back out on to the road. Why was that so much more important than staying safe?
I turned to Sasha. "I'm leaving, I can't listen to this anymore. About Glenn going out again."
"Alright," she nodded. "Come have lunch with me tomorrow so you can fill me in on everything that happened with you two."
Sasha had been pretty lonely since Bob died and even though she tried to keep her mind off of it, if she had a spare minute her thoughts got to her and she broke. I was happy to help her out and keep her busy. "Sure Sasha." I smiled. "Bye."
I was back in Dr. Peter's office again later. Rick had told me to tell Daryl and Beth about the meeting.
Beth was still right by Daryl's side and I wasn't sure how she was managing to get out of her chores. I guess it didn't matter, Daryl liked having her here.
"So, yeah," I said. "Rick's going to put up a sign up sheet in the council room."
"Really?" Beth chimed in. "So, I could go."
Daryl quickly shook his head. "No, Beth you don't wanna be out there."
She shruged. "Sure I do. They've done so many bad things to us. It's time they get what they deserved. Isn't it?"
"Yeah but plenty of other people are gonna go. You don't gotta." Daryl argued.
"But I could." she turned to me. "Right Glenn?"
I shrugged. "Well, you also have to pass some sort of test that Carol is going to give everyone who signs up."
"Okay. What's on the test?" she asked.
I shrugged. "I don't think she knows yet."
She thought for a second and then spoke. "Are you okay here?" Beth asked Daryl.
"Yeah why?"
Beth stood up. "I'm gonna go find Carol and ask her. I'm gonna pass that test."
"Beth wait you don't-" the door slammed behind her. "Why you gotta tell her shit like that man?"
"What? She would've found out anyways."
"Yeah but you know she's gonna pass. That test is to make sure that all the clueless dumbasses that we found here are good enough to go."
"Why don't you want her to go?" I asked. "Don't you think she can handle herself?"
"Of course she can." he scoffed. "Well, then again, I thought I could too right?" He eyed his arm. He changed the subject. "Hey you talk to Maggie yet?"
I shook my head. "Um, no. I don't think I'm going to."
"Glenn, you should. You don't think she would help?"
I shook my head. "I don't want her to feel like she has to. Like I'm using this as an excuse to pressure her into talking to me and having sex with me."
"I don't think she would think that." he said. "Especially after what happened with her and the Governor."
My stomach turned. Every time I thought about what he did to Maggie I filled with rage. I hadn't given thought to the idea that something similar had happened to me.
"I don't know." I felt my heart race and I started feeling sick again. I scratched at my arms.
"Glenn, seriously, she already knows it happened. If you told her what you need to get better, then I'm sure she would help."
I knew Daryl was talking to me but I couldn't really hear him. I just kept focusing on how he clearly hadn't showered since we got back and how that girl was still all over him. I wondered if I would ever really get Julie off me.
I stammered out a few words. "I don't know. I just don't think I can ask that of her."
Just then, Dr. Peter's door opened. It was Maggie.
I smiled at her and calmed down. Breathing became easier. "Hi Glenn." she said without really looking at me.
"Hey Mags," I breathed.
She moved over to Daryl's cot. "Hey Daryl," she said. "How're you feeling?"
He nodded. "I'm alright, surprisingly."
She smiled. "Good. Your arm looks great! If I didn't know, I probably wouldn't even know."
Daryl smirked. "That's what everyone keeps saying."
She looked around the office then. "Is Dr. Peters here?" she asked him.
"No, he left to grab a bite but he'll be back."
"Alright, um," she made a point of not speaking to me and only to Daryl. "When he gets here can you tell him I'm in the back waiting for him?"
"Mhm," he nodded. "Of course."
"Thanks." she got up and went to the other section of the office with secluded cots and beds. There was a plastic curtain strung up on a shower rod to section off the other part of the office. She opened, then closed the curtain.
Daryl gave me a strange look, asking why Maggie was here.
"She has to get weekly visits because of the baby now. When the Poets attacked someone slashed her stomach. She started having weird pains so Dr. Peters wants to keep an eye on it." I explained.
"Oh, so why aren't you going with her?" he pointed back to where she was concealed with his left hand.
I shook my head. "I don't think she wants me back there."
The office door opened again and I expected to see Dr. Peters or a nurse.
Instead, a tall blonde guy stood in the door way. He had more muscles than three of of me put together. He might've been in a boy band or modeled before this if he didn't also look like he might've been a star athlete.
"Can I help you?" I asked.
He walked further into the door way and took off his hat. He smiled. "Yeah, um, is Maggie here?" his voice was deep and he had an accent like Maggie's.
I was really surprised to hear her name out of his mouth. "Maggie?" I asked. "Why're you looking for her?"
"She has an appointment today. Right? Today is Wednesday?"
I thought for a moment and shook my head. "Nope. Today is Thursday and I haven't seen Maggie, so there's no appointment. You can head home or-"
"I'm back here!" she called from behind the curtain.
He smiled and waved to thank us. "Thanks fellas."
He walked back and I heard him greet Maggie.
"What the Hell?" I asked.
"Who is he?" Daryl asked. "I've never seen him around here before. I don't think anyways."
"I don't care who is he." I said. "Why is he with Maggie?"
I walked back to the secluded area and opened the curtain. The tall blonde had taken a seat next to Maggie's bed. The two were talking like it was normal.
I knocked. "Um, hi." I said, loudly and annoyed.
"Hi," Maggie said before returned to their conversation.
Why was she acting like this was so normal? "Um, who's this?" I walked in so I could make my presence obvious.
Maggie turned her head in the guy's direction. He introduced himself. "Um, I'm Austin."
I scoffed. "Of course you are." Austin with a southern accent? I'm sure he had a farm growing up just like Maggie did.
"Yeah," he shrugged.
"Well, why're you here, Austin?" I came over to him and placed my hand on his shoulder, firmly.
"I'm here with Maggie." he said, flicking my hand off of him.
"No," I said, putting it back. "I'm here with Maggie."
"No," he said. "You seemed to be here with Daryl."
"Well I'm not. I'm here with Maggie. So, if you wouldn't mind-"
"No," he stood up, towering over me. "I'm here with Maggie."
"No," I insisted. "I'm-"
"Oh my God, this is ridiculous." Maggie finally spoke. "Austin, sit down." He listened to her. "Austin this is Glenn, my husband. Glenn this is my friend Austin."
"You're Glenn?" he asked.
I wondered how he didn't know who I was. I was on the council and everyone was pretty familiar with me. "Yeah?" I looked at Maggie for an explanation.
Maggie rolled her eyes. "Austin could you leave for a minute?"
"Sure," he said. He put his hand on her arm and I've never wanted to break someone's fingers so badly.
He left out the back door and I took his seat.
"Maggie, what the hell? Who is this guy?" I asked.
"Austin came to Terminus while you were gone. Rick asked me to show him around when he first got here. We became friends."
"So? You and Daryl are friends that doesn't mean he comes to your appointments?"
"Austin was a nurse before so he's been training with Dr. Peters. The week after I got hurt, I was in here two or three times a day in horrible pain. He normally was the one to take care of me."
My heart lurched in my chest. "I would've been here if I could have but-"
"This isn't about that Glenn. I just didn't know where you were. If you were dead or alive. I hated coming here alone each time."
"And it had to be Austin? Southern, country, farmin', cowboy Austin? You couldn't bring Sasha or Beth?"
"I already told you, Austin was here training. Beth and Sasha had other jobs." she paused, seeing that this didn't satisfy me. "I don't see why you have a problem with this."
I scoffed. "Mags, are you kidding?" My shoulders slumped over. "I didn't know your appointments were on Wednesdays but he did. I just-" I paused. "What else does he know about our baby that I don't."
"Why do you have a problem with this" she asked. "We're friends. Just like Daryl and I are friends."
"No, Daryl doesn't look at you the way that this guy looks at you."
"What're you talking about?" she asked with honest oblivion.
I guess when you go your whole life looking like Maggie Greene, you don't notice every time someone's giving you eyes.
I shook my head. "Ugh, nevermind. I'm just worried. I mean it's our baby and with everything going on with us right now I just don't-"
"Glenn," she said softly. "Can we talk about what happened earlier?"
I knew what she was talking about but acted like I didn't. "What?"
"In the shower?" she said. Her eyes were wide and hopeful that I would talk. "Glenn, just talk to me. If we talk about-about what happened to you then-"
I shook my head. "I don't want to talk about it."
"Okay, but, I-I just feel like if we talked that out then we could move past this. If I could understand-"
"Maggie," I shook my head.
I couldn't tell her what I needed from her. It wasn't fair. It wasn't right.
She looked at me for a moment and I saw how hurt she was.
Finally, Dr. Peters walked in.
"Sorry I'm late, meal times ran a little later because of the meeting the council had earlier."
"That's okay." Maggie said.
Dr. Peters splased some water on his hands and rubbed them clean with a wash cloth. He glanced at me. "Is Austin joining us today?" he asked.
"Yeah, I'm here." he said walking back in.
"You know, Austin it's really nice of you to take care of Maggie when I wasn't here. But since I'm back you can leave now."
"Actually," Maggie said. "I would like him to stay."
I could tell that he had made her feel safe when I wasn't here. She had needed someone and I was gone. Should I be thanking Austin for helping her? Really, he had helped but I couldn't shake the feeling that his intentions with Maggie weren't as she believed.
Regardless, he had been there for her and she liked him being here.
"Fine." I said. "But I'm going to be here too."
"Glenn," she sighed.
"It's my right Mags." I nodded. "I'm the father. I should be here."
"You should've." she nodded. "You should've been here before any of this happened."
"This isn't about me, Maggie. It's about our baby." I shouted, tired of her bringing up my leaving.
"I don't need you here." she spat at me, loudly, trying to hurt me.
"I don't care." I said, louder. I wasn't going to miss out on important parts of my child's life just because Maggie was mad at me. Though, she was partially right. I had missed out when I had left.
I could tell that she was annoyed that I was included. She glanced at Dr. Peters who just shrugged. "He's right Maggie."
She glared at him. "Fine."
"Alright then, let's get started."
lol Austin is pretty much a tool right? Like leave them alone you don't know their life. or do you not think so? do you think he honestly wants t be there for maggie? let me know
But whatever leave me a review telling me what you thought? If anyone even read this to leave a review.
Also, tell me what the name and gender of Maggie and Glenn's baby should be.
Thanks!
