"Oh, Leslie! Thank you!" Janet was so happy that she forgot about her injured ankle and tried to stand up, only to fall back onto the sofa in agony a split second later.

"Easy!" Leslie laughed as he caught her by the arms and lowered her gently back down, then opened the box of chocolates. "Pick one."

"Oh, no. You go first," Janet said politely. He chose one of the smaller ones.

"This one looks yummy." She selected a milk chocolate square and bit into it. "Oh, wow! Orange creme!"

Leslie smiled. "I took a gamble you're a chocoholic."

"You already know me well," Janet replied.

"So, when are your fellow roommates due home?" asked Leslie.

"Not till late," Janet replied. "One of Jack's waiters called in sick and he couldn't find a replacement, and Terri's working a double shift at the hospital." She suddenly thought about what that meant and felt slightly uneasy.

"Never mind," said Leslie. "I'll stay with you until one of them gets back."

"Oh, I'll be fine!" said Janet. "I'm sure you have things to do."

"Nothing as important as seeing that you're all right!" After finding an ice pack for Janet's ankle, Leslie began rummaging around in the kitchen. "I'm sure you must be quite hungry after a long day of work at the flower shop. I know I'm not as good a cook as Jack, but I've been told my bangers and mash are out of this world."

"Your bangers and what?"

"Bangers and mash. Sausage and potatoes to you Yanks." Quickly he found the ingredients and began to cook. "While I'm at it, I might as well cook you a full English breakfast."

"Breakfast at six in the evening?" asked Janet.

"Sure, why not?"

In addition to the sausage and potatoes, he made fried eggs sunny side up and also cooked mushrooms and sliced tomatoes. He couldn't find any English muffins so made toast instead.

"This is a meal fit for a king!" Janet exclaimed when she tasted it.

"Or a queen, as the case may be," added Leslie. "Whoops!" He'd dipped a piece of toast into an egg yolk and then dropped it on his pants.

"Oh, dear!" Janet exclaimed. "That's all right. You can borrow a pair of Jack's pants."

"Are you sure he wouldn't mind?" asked Leslie.

"Of course he wouldn't!"

Leslie found the pants and washed his in the bathroom sink and hung them on the shower rod to dry. Then he washed the dishes and joined Janet in the living room again, where they talked and laughed together for several hours until Janet began to yawn.

"This kind of weather always makes me sleepy," she said apologetically. "Could you please help me into the bedroom?"

"Um...all right," Leslie said awkwardly, blushing slightly. He picked her up, carried her into the bedroom, and sat her on the bed.

"Now, if you could just get my nightgown out, I can manage the rest by myself," said Janet.

Just then, Jack returned home from work and went into the restroom, where he saw Leslie's pants hanging over the shower rod. Instantly he was aware of voices coming from the girls' bedroom.

"Up just a little," said Janet. Leslie reached for the handle of the drawer above the one he'd been about to open. "Yes, that's it!"

Jack gasped. What are they doing in there? he asked himself. Not that it's any of my business...hey, wait a minute, it is my business! What if that smooth talking tea sipper's in there taking advantage of Janet?

He stalked out of the bathroom and into the girls' bedroom. "Just what do you think you're doing..." He paused when he noticed that Janet and Leslie were both still fully clothed and that Janet was sitting on the bed and Leslie was standing beside the dresser. "Oh."

"Leslie dropped egg on his pants, so I let him borrow a pair of yours," said Janet. "I hope that's OK."

"Oh, sure, of course it is!" Jack laughed nervously. "I saw his pants in the bathroom, so of course I thought...well, I figured he must have dropped egg on them..."

"Yeah, sure you did." Janet threw a pillow at Jack. "I hurt my ankle getting off the bus, and Leslie helped me home and made dinner for me. Well, actually it was breakfast, but that's OK. He's such a sweetheart! He got me this big box of chocolates for Valentine's Day!"

"Oh, yeah, that's right! Today's Valentine's Day! I'd forgotten all about it!"

"Why am I not surprised?" asked Janet.

"Well, if everything's in order, I suppose I'll head on over to my place," said Leslie. "I hope your ankle's better soon, Janet."

"Thanks so much for dinner, and...everything else," said Janet.

"No problem at all," Leslie replied. "I was happy to do it." He kissed Janet good-bye and left.

"So how did you hurt your ankle?" asked Jack.

"I caught my foot in a crack in the pavement and twisted it," Janet said. "If Leslie hadn't just happened to be on the same bus, I don't know how I ever would have gotten back home!"

"So he saved the day," Jack mumbled. "Leslie Bennington, the big hero."

"Why, Jack! You almost sound like you're jealous!" Janet exclaimed.

"Me? Why should I be jealous?" Jack asked innocently.
