Chapter 46: Happy Birthday, Midori!
"Sorry for my husband's attitude." Sakura laughed. "Honey, introduce yourself." she nudged him.
"It is nice...to meet you….I am Watanabe Hajime." he bows stiffly to Nana and Bo.
"Nice to meet you, Hajime…" Nana still had that wicked smile and was clawing her nails on the table. "I am Watanabe Nana...and this is my niece Watanabe Boboa…"
"It's nice to meet you sir." Bo said curiously watching her aunt's behavior. "Sorry about telling you to get medication. I thought you were crazy or something."
"No worries." Hajime said instantly like trying to shoot down a conversation with her but Bo didn't mind. She was used to it.
"Can you sing for me now, Watanabe-sama!" Midori pulled Bo's sleeve.
"Yes, we will all love to hear you sing!" Sakura chimed in with her frowning husband looking at a different direction from the table. Nana hands Bo her ukulele and Bo strums a few strings to see if it is in tune.
"Okay, what do you want me to sing?" she asked.
"Anything!" Midori said with his face beat red. Bo thought for a moment and then started to play a happy tone.
"Your lipstick stains...on the corner of my left side brain…" Bo sang "Hey Soul Sister" by Train to Midori who swayed with the sound of the beat. "Hey, soul sister…" Bo smiled watching the boy listening to her so happily sitting and swaying to the song. When she was done she was applauded by everyone except for Hajime.
"Wow, your voice is incredible! Have you ever thought of going to become a singer?" Sakura asked.
"Not really. I don't have a plan for the future." Bo said honestly but suddenly felt someone staring daggers from right next to her. Her aunt was clawing harder into the table than before.
"No plan huh." she said clawing even harder.
"Uh…." Bo was terrified to say anything else.
"Well if you ever do...Hajime here works at an entertainment agency, "Green Light" and he could help you…" Sakura suggested.
"Sakura!" said Hajime.
"Really! The one that produces "Haruna" and "Down Devil"!" Bo jumped out and became close to Hajime. He leaned back a little frightened and shocked. "What's Haruna like behind stage? Is she awesome, sweet, or horrible? No, what's the lead singer of "Down Devil" like? Is he handsome after taking all that makeup off?" Bo kept asking questions not noticing Hajime's actions.
"Quiet!" he slammed his fist in the table startling everyone.
"Sorry, too many questions huh." Bo laughed and scratched her head. Hajime was shocked and a bit annoyed but he didn't say anything and got up and left the table to go outside. Sakura followed behind him.
"Oh man, I have to actually apologize don't I…" Bo sighed and went to follow them.
"What is wrong with you, Hajime!" Bo heard Sakura shout at Hajime. Bo instantly hid behind the door to listen to their argument.
"Nothing is wrong!" he shouts back.
"Something clearly is! All I wanted is to give Midori a great birthday! You didn't have to come get us honey!"
"Well sorry if I spoiled his special day!" and that's all he said. When Bo went outside he was walking away.
"Are you alright?" she asked but Sakura didn't answer and went back inside. Bo followed Hajime worried when he seemed be unclear muttering. He went to a dock and looked over at the sun going down on the ocean horizon.
"Why…" he sighed.
"Are you okay, Watanabe-san?" Bo said softly. He jumped and looked over his shoulder. He didn't say anything and looked quickly back to the ocean. "A wonderful sight isn't it?" She said with a smile leaning over to see him. He averted his eyes but he slowly nodded. She giggled and joined him watching the sun go down.
"Why are you here?" he asked suddenly.
"I heard you two yelling and saw you walk away. You seemed to be upset to be here. I got worried so I decided to join you." she answered. "If you're thinking that I am just tricking you to get me to get famous, I'm not. I'm not all that really and besides I don't really know what I want to do in the future."
"Why don't you?"
"Never really crossed my mind. I didn't see anything that really grabbed my interest."
"No hobbies or anything or anyone to help you?"
"I have tons of hobbies!" Bo cried. "The ukulele, beating people up, oh, Aunty has too much on her plate...oh, I have a boyfriend! Well...maybe."
"That boy from the video?"
"Yup, Haruka. He's really important to me but right now it's rocky."
"Did something happened?"
"I lied about something but I had to keep lying so I hurt him to keep it to avoid hurting him even more."
"Lied?" Hajime's voice became low from before.
"I lied about where I and a friend were. We skipped school for something and got suspended for it."
"Suspended!" he yelled and turned to her. "That is not acceptable young lady!"
"I guess not."
"Don't talk to me like that! I am an adult!"
"Congrats to that." Bo patted his back. "Come on, they'll get worried if we are out too long."
"You're...very different than what I imagined." he said catching up to her.
"Am I that weird of a girl?"
"No…" he said rubbing his neck.
"...I don't get it!" Bo said bluntly and walked ahead of him. He tried to catch up but Bo was fast and started to skip. When they got back her aunt ran out and hugged Bo tightly.
"Are you alright? He did say anything rude or mean to you did he?" Nana touched her niece's face.
"He did but I've heard worse, aunty." Bo said calmly.
"What did you say to her!?" her aunt yelled at Hajime.
"I said nothing to her!" he yelled back.
"Don't lie to me! You said something to her! Like she said that you did! What is it!" Nana cornered and shouted at him.
"I SAID NOTHING TO HER, NEE-SAN!" he yelled on the top of his lungs.
"Nee...San?" Sakura whispered in disbelief as she held a scared Midori in her arms.
"I'm sorry...what?" Bo asked.
"It's nothing. I said too much." Nana said calming her down.
"It's nothing? Are you serious right now?" Bo laughed. "Aunty, I'm not a kid anymore. Just tell me? Why did he call you nee-san? Is he your brother? Wait…" Bo suddenly turned serious but her hands trembled in fear.
"Boboa...this is Watanabe Hajime...your...your…" her aunt tried to explain but couldn't continue talking and looked dejected.
"It's been a long time…" Hajime looks away and rubs his neck.
"No...why?" Bo started to walk backwards staggering away.
"Hajime, what is going on?" his wife demanded.
"God!" Hajime started to cuss and throw a fit. "Boboa is my daughter!" he shouted loudly.
