Author's Note: Check the end for a really quick Author's Note. Caitreylove ohhh believe me there are worse places I could have left off XD especially in these next couple of chapters! I am so glad that Loki's psychology seems in character, talk about a guy with a tricky mindset! Little Bird hmmm how will he react? That is the question isn't it :D Reteka Hyuuga Silent brooding is a good option right about now. I hope that the internet will cooperate with you, I always love reading your reviews! JaviMason19691 I am a Frigga fan as well :) Hehehe I am glad that you thought Loki was being childish since that was the personality traits I was playing off of last chapter. I hope the story continues to entertain you!
Loki and Sigyn walked in silence for a little while till they reached an empty corridor, at which point they stopped and stood in stillness for a bit.
"I noticed that Amora is not in attendance this evening." Sigyn finally remarked.
"Yes, I am not surprised seeing as we recently went our separate ways." Loki responded.
"I am sorry to hear that." Sigyn apologized.
"Don't be, I was the one who ended it."
Sigyn gave him a little 'ah' before going to sit on a nearby bench.
"I had heard that you were seeing Theoric." Loki mentioned casually.
"I am." Sigyn affirmed.
"I have actually been working with him recently."
"Yes, he had mentioned as much."
"He did, did he? I assume that he didn't give you the details of those dealings…"
"Of course not! His work is his personal business, and I am well aware of the secretive nature of it."
"Are you though?" Loki queried.
Silence…
"Is there some point to this conversation? You asked to speak with me in private, but you have yet to bring up anything that couldn't have been spoken in front of Theoric." Sigyn eventually pointed out.
"Very well, if you wish to skip the pleasantries, we can discuss what I wished to speak to you about. In short, I simply wished to warn you."
"Warn me? About what?"
"Theoric."
Sigyn rolled her eyes and stood from her seat on the bench.
"Then this conversation is over."
She made a move to leave, but Loki grabbed her arm.
"I think not, you need to hear this."
Sigyn tensed under his grasp, and her breathing began to noticeably quicken.
"Loki, let go…"
"Not until you listen to what I have to say."
His voice wasn't angry, but it was certainly stern.
"Loki please, let me go." She asked with a hint of anxiety.
He would do no such thing.
"Theoric is dangerous Sigyn."
"As are you." She pointed out.
"Not nearly as much as him. Are you aware of what he is capable of Sigyn, of what he has done?"
"I know he has done things that he isn't necessarily proud of, but that he was required to do for the good of Asgard. That is all I need to know." She protested.
"That is all you need to know? When has knowing only the partial truth ever been all you needed to know?"
That is when he saw it, the crack in her defenses. Sigyn truly did want to know the whole truth about Theoric, though she would deny it till her dying breath. Loki knew this was his opening. He had to press his advantage while Sigyn was still off her guard.
"Sigyn, could you really be happy knowing that the man whose lips had whispered such sweet nothings into your ear had also whispered torturous words into the ears of prisoners in order to twist their minds in pursuit of intelligence?"
"It is his job, and I dare say you have done the same." Sigyn excused in a quiet voice.
"Then would it please you to know that the same arms that embraced you had delivered crushing blows to the skulls of men and women without any hesitation at all?"
"A sad truth that applies to any warrior of Asgard." She noted.
"And would you be thrilled or frightened by the idea that the hands that caressed your body had taken the life of innocent children?"
"Enough…" Sigyn pleaded.
Loki ignored her plea and pressed on.
"That the man who would drown you with his love is drowning in the blood of those he has killed! The same man who has…"
"I said enough!" Sigyn shouted before quickly bringing a dagger up to his throat.
Loki was more than a bit taken aback by her sudden aggressiveness. Where had she been hiding that thing!?
"I think you do darling, all I have done is just confirm your suspicions." Loki replied in a calmer tone than he truly felt.
"I am not your darling anymore." Sigyn stated without removing her blade from his throat.
Loki couldn't help but notice two things. One, this was not his dagger and two, there was a touch of sadness in her statement.
"You will always be my darling." He whispered.
"You couldn't be more wrong… we are betrothed." Sigyn replied while pulling back the dagger slightly.
"You're what?" Loki asked, certain that he had misheard her.
"We are betrothed, Thoric and I."
Loki's mind began to spin. This couldn't be happening, Sigyn couldn't actually be marrying Theoric.
"You can't be…" he uttered in disbelief.
"According to the law and my father I can be." Sigyn corrected. "Did you honestly think that you would be able to separate me from Theoric by telling me of all the terrible things he has had to do? Did you really believe that I would come running back into your arms for protection from the man you 'saved' me from?"
Loki opened his mouth to speak, but Sigyn pressed her knife harder against his throat. A knife that was beginning to look more and more familiar…
"Don't speak. You had your turn to take your anger out on me in the library, now it is mine. Did you suppose that I had spent the past three years mourning my loss of you? That Theoric was simply a ploy to rid me of your memory till you returned to me, at which point I would cast him aside and take my 'rightful place' alongside you once more? Are you truly that vain? That proud!?"
Sigyn's eyes burned with passion, and Loki could feel the knife pressed against his neck beginning to cut into his skin. For a moment Loki feared that she was going to accidentally slit his throat in her rage, and he couldn't help but wonder if this was how she felt when he had wrapped his hand around her neck in the library. Before she could say anything else, a male hand wrapped around hers and carefully removed the dagger from its deadly position.
"That is enough Sigyn." Theoric soothed.
He drew her back a little ways from Loki, and she didn't resist. Loki ran a hand over his neck and looked at it. Sure enough there was some blood there. Not enough to be concerned about, but enough to confirm that she had indeed broken the skin. He quickly ran his hand over the spot again and healed the small incision before smirking at Theoric. The warrior had followed he and Sigyn here, and Loki had a feeling he knew why.
"So you are not that trusting of her after all…" Loki noted.
"No, I am not that trusting of you." Theoric replied.
A truth, but only a partial truth. Did Theoric really think that he was clever enough to lie to the 'god of lies' and get away with it? A member of the Crimson Hawks or not, that wasn't going to happen.
"So when is the happy day?" He asked the man standing across from him.
"A little less than four weeks." Theoric replied cooly.
"Then I offer you my congratulations." Loki remarked before brushing past the pair.
"Don't bother." Sigyn responded. "You would only be lying, and I have no intention of accepting a lie from you Loki."
Loki didn't respond, and instead continued down the corridor back to the banquet. He wasn't upset by this encounter in the least. On the contrary, he was rather pleased by it. Sigyn was furious with him, which meant that deep down she still cared for him. More than cared for him really. Sigyn still loved him he could see it in her eyes, and even if Sigyn's eyes hadn't told him so Theoric's eavesdropping on them did. It was true that Theoric didn't trust Loki, but it was also true that he didn't entirely trust Sigyn either. Deep down Theoric feared that Sigyn was still in love with him, and Loki knew Theoric was no fool. He would not fear something if he didn't have some sort of foundation for it. The fact that they were betrothed was simply one more obstacle Loki would have to overcome. No marriage contract was written in stone, and Theoric's knife was going to be his own undoing.
Author's Note: Now before anyone gets too upset with me that we got cool collected Loki this chapter, I promise you that jealous Loki is going to make an appearance soon. Also, remember that he is the 'god of deceit.' His cool behavior is a façade to hide his jealousy (even from himself in a way). That's all I wanted to say XD Bye-bye!
