King of Hearts

Chapter 48 – Lace's Issues.

Don Pitch Robotnik's POV, Robotnik compound.

The drive home was full of talk from Damien and Rover. Both of them see this war kicking off tomorrow and my life in near danger to come. And even though I agree with them about the need for my protection, I could only concern myself with Lace. She wouldn't look at me. Nor muster a word. She looked to be thinking about something. I think it has to do with that girl from Cora's family.

"Back home." Stated Rover as Damien pulled in through the gate.

"Lace?" I said under my breath as she remained silent.

Parking the car near the front, Damien got out to open my door.

Looking into Lace's eyes as she continued to ignore me, I got out to get greeted by my men who guarded the front entrance.

"Welcome back sir. Lunch is being prepared for you. We'll have it brought up to your office."

Nodding as Lace stepped out of the car. I tried to stick my hand out to take her arm. Pushing me away however, she went through the doors in speed. Leaving me with Rover and Damien who also noticed my confusion and Lace's anger.

"What's wrong with her?" I asked ether of them as they both had no idea.

Looking back to the front door, I kept my thinking cap on as Damien said.

"I got to go out for a bit Pitch. With the meeting over now there's no more red tape between us and Don Skier. I have a feeling he may try and hit a place or two. I'll be back later tonight. Rover? Watch him for me will you?" He asked as he went back to the car.

Turning back as Damien got in, Rover questioned.

"Do you really think Don Skier is that quick Damien? There's no way he could get in the compound."

Shutting the door on us, Rover continued to wait for his answer. Slowly Damien rolled down the window to reply.

"We can't be too careful Rover. Plus, protecting the Don is your job. You might as well get to it for once."

Giving Damien a slight chuckle, Rover replied.

"Yeah, fine. Be careful out there."

Without anymore conversation, Damien exited the compound. Rover who was focused on his exit, soon turned back to me to urge.

"Why don't you go eat Pitch. I got a quick perimeter check to do and then I'll be in to watch you."

Nodding as he gave me the clarity of my options, I replied in confusion.

"Okay."

Sensing I was lost by why Lace was acting so weird, Rover tapped my shoulder.

Upon looking back into his eyes he said in confidence.

"Don't let her get to you. If it's important she'll come find you. And sometimes it's just best to let girls blow off their problems alone."

Giving that some thought, I soon looked back to the door, leaving Rover in silence.

After some time he made his way to the gate, and even though what he said made sense I still felt I was the cause of her anger. I hate feeling like this. Its the type of shit I just have to know. Yet I don't think rushing her with demands is the best approach.

Getting myself together after some thoughts. I began my walk inside to find my office guards waiting to let me in. After that, I found my lunch was not that far behind.

Coming in was the family chef. A fairly old human male in his fifties. Maybe about Lace's height and my weight combined. I knew him almost all my life in fact. He'd been with us ever since I can remember. He always made my father's dinner. According to him, he's the best man in the cooking gig, but I haven't ever gotten the chance really to judge for myself. He's a personal chef. Only cooks for the Don. And that was never me. The most he did for me back when I was just Shadow Robotnik's son was point me to the right direction in the kitchen towards the food I was looking for. He's a nice guy though. A little heavy on the french side, but nice all the same. His name's Anton by the way.

"Here you are sire. And might I say it's a little weird seeing you in that chair rather then your father."

Pulling the plate towards me as he looked me over, I soon replied.

"It's very weird for me too Anton. I never expected this."

"That makes two of us sire. And since this is your first meal by my hands for a change, I would like to stay for the first bite. See if you like it and all? It's what your father enjoyed when he was Don."

Slowly pulling off the lid to the tray, I asked.

"What is it exactly?"

"Chicken tikka masala. It's a thin piece of chicken breast I hand sliced from the butchery. I marinated it with a gentle vanilla yogurt and some herbs, then hand tossed it with a famous tomato cream sauce from Switzerland with a side of white rice and warm pita bread. Very quick and very fulfilling if I do say so myself."

"It smells amazing." I stated as he smiled and urged.

"We'll the smell is only secondary sire. Please, give it a try. Tell me how you like it."

Nodding as he stood before me in deep concentration of my every action. I calmly sliced a piece of the chicken off and placed it in my mouth. The yogurt could be tasted clearly, but whatever kind of tomato cream he used gave it a certain zest. It wasn't a normal meal for me for sure, but none the less it was really good.

After getting done the first bite, Anton wondered.

"So?"

Giving him a smile I replied.

"I see why my father loved you Anton. This is marvelous."

Giving me a smile as I went for a second taste. Anton stated back.

"That is good then. I'm happy you enjoy it sire. Now I should get back to work. I'll have your dinner ready and brought to you around six. I should have something special made for you."

Nodding as he exited my office. I continued to enjoy my food. If this is just lunch then I can't wait to see what is for dinner.

Lace's POV.

"Fucking bitch!" I shouted as I slammed down my P99 on the nightstand.

Every fiber of my being wanted to go find that whore at the airport and put a bullet between her head. But of course that would be a fucking problem. So since that is the god damn case I'm restricted here. But I swear if I ever get the chance I will fucking end her!

Running my hand down my face to try and keep my anger back. I looked towards the door to scream.

"Aughhhhh!"

No one but me can see who that bitch Lilith really is. And it makes me so mad when Pitch is blind to it. Hell he fucking stared at her ass so hard I thought his eyes would implode or something.

Trying my best to keep calm, I reached back for my gun to take it and place it back in my pants.

Lilith is a selfish, greedy tramp. All she cares about is making money and fucking the highest paying member of her family. Plus on top of that she wants me dead and I know now that she is an Underboss, the second she gets the chance she'll come for me again for what I did to her. She's just lucky I didn't kill her when I had the chance.

Gaining back some control over my emotions. I soon came to try and come up with a plan of action. The first step was to keep Pitch away from her at all costs. She'll stab him if he gets too close. And it's going to be hard to get him to back off when he finds her so fucking attractive. What the hell does he see in her anyway? She's has no ass! Her tits are implants! I...ughhhh! Fuck!

Why am I getting so mad over this? I just need to keep her away from him.

Turning my head to the side of the room, I stopped to stare into a mirror resting against the wall. I look like shit.

Lowering my head down into my chest, I let out a light sigh. Everything is just fucking hectic right now. I need to just focus on my job. I guess I should start by apologizing to Pitch. It's not like he has any clue why I'm mad. He's too young.

Calmly getting up from the bed, I made my way out into the hall and back towards the office where I found him eating his lunch. It smelt so good. I'm so hungry.

Stopping in front of the door got his attention enough to look at me.

"Lace?" He questioned as I asked.

"Can I come bother you for a minute?"

Putting down his fork he nodded and replied.

"Yeah sure. What's up?"

Making my way slowly to his desk, I replied.

"I wanted to apologize for acting like a bitch earlier. I was just mad."

"About what?" He wondered as I looked into his brown eyes.

"It's long story. Let's just say I really don't like Lilith."

Giving me a confused expression, Pitch questioned.

"Don Cora's Underboss?"

Nodding my head, he then asked.

"You two don't get along?"

Putting my hand on my stomach I replied.

"You could say that. I just don't trust a thing she says or does. And you shouldn't ether."

Giving me a slight chuckle, Pitch soon replied.

"It's not like I haven't met my fair share of girls Lace. The second I saw her I could see she was a little shifty."

Shaking my head I replied.

"She's a backstabbing whore kid. You don't know but I do. She'll say anything to get you to trust her, then stab you in the back when you least expect it."

"Why? What did she do?" Asked Pitch in utter loss for my feelings towards her.

Looking towards his plate of food, I replied.

"Just trust me. I...I don't want you to get hurt. I'm trying to do my job and make sure you know ahead of time not to trust her Pitch."

Pitch then went silent. My words must have been processing. He looked lost still but I plan to keep it that way. The less he knows about Lilith the better. All he needs to do is trust me and stay away from her.

Looking back into my eyes Pitch said to me with a low tone.

"Okay Lace. I get it. I'll make sure to stay away."

Giving him a smile I replied in happiness.

"Thank you. I'm just looking out for you is all."

Nodding, Pitch then stated.

"I get that. Are you okay?" He wondered as my stomach began to growl.

"Yeah. I'm just really hungry is all."

Getting up from his seat, he wondered.

"Well how about I take you out to eat somewhere? You can pick anywhere you want."

Quickly laughing I replied to him.

"I'll be fine kid."

Shaking his head he urged.

"No it's on me. Plus you deserve a good meal after handling Reaver. Come on. Let me treat you for dinner."

My mind was at ease with him. He seemed really caring right now about me. Yet I made myself clear.

"We shouldn't."

"It's not a date." Stated Pitch as I looked back into his eyes with a small smile.

"It's just dinner. Come on Lace. You know you wana." He stated with a smile back as I ran my quills back with my right hand.

Even with the danger in the front of my mind something made me say.

"Okay. But this is just dinner!"

Nodding really fast, Pitch replied.

"Just dinner. Where do you want to go?"

Thinking it over with a deep concern for my belly. I soon looked back at him to reply.

"I know a place. Come on then. I'll drive us."

With a wide smile, I watched as he urged.

"Go get the car started. I have to inform Rover."

With another sigh coming I reached out to take his wrist and yank him my way towards the door.

"Forget about Rover. It's not like we're going to end world hunger. It's not worth informing anyone. Let's just go eat."

Obeying my command, Pitch replied in kind.

"If you say so Lace. But if I get yelled at again for leaving without permission I'm blaming you."

Letting him go down the stairs, I stated.

"Your a Don. You don't ask for permission to do anything. Now stop worrying and get to the car."

Calmly proceeding outside. Pitch and I took one of the family sedans and made our way out of the compound alone. Rover would call if he even noticed Pitch's absence. For now I'm just looking to fill my stomach. Plus maybe...I can see if this kid can treat a girl right. I guess I'll find out soon enough.
