King of Hearts
Chapter 72 – Simple.
Don Pitch Robotnik's POV, Robotnik compound, New York.
With the party going on and me running around like a mad man with Rover and Lace, I found it near impossible to get a second to breath for myself. Everywhere I went someone had to talk to me. Now don't get me wrong I like the attention but I need a break.
Keeping to myself as much as I could, I found it to be a miracle when one of my Caporegimes approached with message to my ear.
"Your mother wishes to speak to you Don Robotnik sir. I forwarded the call to your office."
Feeling some relief that I could get away for a second, I replied.
"Thank you."
Lace kept her eyes on me as I left the party to head up the stairs and towards my office. Two men stood guard as I entered to shut the door.
Letting out a long breath of air to the silence, I approached my office phone to take it slowly into my hands.
"Hey mom." I said with a small smile as I sat down in my chair to heat from the other end.
"Hey baby. I'm so glad your okay. How are you doing with the family?"
Looking towards my ceiling as I spoke to her I replied.
"I'm doing as good as can be expected."
"What's been going on? Is Don Skier giving you any trouble?"
Smiling I replied.
"Not anymore. We dealt with him earlier today. He will no longer be a problem for the family."
My mom went silent and soon she asked.
"He's dead?"
Nodding to myself I replied.
"Yes mother."
It was clear she was shocked. I don't think she expected that kind of news.
"I'm speechless. Are you okay? Was anyone hurt?"
"No. By the time we arrived most of his men had bailed. We walked in and walked out. Easy as could be."
"What about the police?" Wondered my mother as her voice seemed to still be in partial shock.
"I had Rover and Lace deal with them. The police chief was fully prepared to let us move in on him. According to Rover and Lace he was expecting this to happen sooner or later after you and dad left for the other side of the planet."
Keeping my eyes above my desk, my mother replied.
"Your father was saying something about that being the case in New York. Plus he owed us some favors so I guess he made good. How are you though baby? Be honest with me."
Taking my view back down to my legs I slowly replied.
"It's hard. I mean even with help it's hard. And to be honest mom I think about the danger I'm in every day as Don."
"I get it Pitch." Stated my mom as I then quickly asked.
"How does Shadow deal with it?"
In a short relapse she replied.
"Your father...drinks. And he tends to...zone it out. It's hard to explain."
"Well what did you do? You were once a Don."
Chuckling my mom replied.
"I was always working sweety. That's what a woman does. Especially when she runs one of the world's biggest mob families. I was always running on steam, and coffee. Plus your real father kept me happy so it wasn't bad in the end. It's just a matter of finding something you enjoy that you can do in private. Something you can escape with. Even if it's just for an hour. But listen to me baby. Working twenty four seven is unhealthy."
Nodding to myself I muttered.
"I guess I'll have to try and find something. It's just really busy right now with Skier out of the picture."
"It will be for a few days baby. If you get time talk with Johan. He'll know what to do."
Biting my lip I replied.
"I don't think that's an option mom."
"What do you mean?" She questioned as I slowly stated.
"Johan is dead."
Immediately my mother asked.
"How? What happened?"
"He was a problem. Damien made the call and had him killed for my safety. It's over now. I'm moving on."
"Well who's helping you with the business?" She wondered in utter confusion as I replied to her.
"No one. I'm learning as I go."
"Baby your going to lose your mind without the aid of someone who has been in this business for a good portion of time."
"I'll be fine mom. It's a good chance for me to grow up and not have someone hold my hand like dad."
"What is that suppose to mean Pitch? Your father loves you more then anything in the world."
"He always had me at his side though. I really wasn't able to grow up on my own like every other kid in the world."
"It was for your safety baby." Stated my mother as she sounded upset.
"I understand, but protecting me and not letting me be myself is far different. I just want a chance to run things my way. Without the help of someone who thinks they know what's best for MY family."
Going silent on me, I finished.
"I appreciate everything he did for me. But now it's my time to be a man mom. And he can't hold me back from that."
"Okay baby." Replied my mother who was clearly conflicted.
"I love you." I tried to say with care as she slowly replied.
"I love you too."
"Bye."
After hanging up the phone, I let out a stored in burst of exhaustion and looked towards my office door to get up from my seat.
I didn't want to go back out there, but Lace and Rover were waiting for me. At least night is closing in.
Sorry for the delay I had things to do with work and new years. I'll have another chapter up soon.
mT Shadow.
