King of Hearts

Chapter 81 – Poking The Lion.

Twig's POV, Outside Moruge Compound, 12:00am.

The place was huge. Cuddled up next to a lone valley pass, the compound was kind of hiding from the normal eye. None the less it was easy to see when you looked in the right place. Problem was the guards were everywhere. Getting in was the problem we faced together alongside Vexer who thought about a way.

"Looks like there are a few spotters around the main structure. Going through the conventional way isn't an option." He stated as I asked.

"What if we nab some suits? Walk right through you think?"

Shaking his head Vexer replied.

"Not a chance. Same at the Soul compound, we need ID checks on all who enter. We would be made the second we got up close."

"So how do we get in?" I asked out of confusion as he looked towards the rear of the compound.

"If I know Morgue, that fat prick has an escape route somewhere towards the back of the building. We find it, we can go right up his ass. He'll never see it coming."

Giving him a nod of agreement, I stayed close as he ordered.

"Follow me. We'll head around this way."

Proceeding along the out most corners of the spotters, we would soon reach the backside of the beast.

Don Ricardo Morgue's POV. Ten Mintues Later.

Enjoying my dinner as night came over my kingdom, I soon looked up to see my office door open with Shax coming through behind it.

"There you are!" I shouted in joy as he took his hat off to run his palm along his forehead and back down his fur.

"What's the point in this? What's so important you need to see me in person Morgue?"

His tone was that of a concerned child. With a smile I replied.

"You need to relax my boy. Take a seat."

Offering him my nearby chair, Shax calmly obeyed and took his place before me.

"You're among family. You're safe here. Now I want you to listen to me Shax. I got something important to discuss. Something both you and I have an interest in."

His attitude had changed as the words became clear.

"It's about you're father. Don soul."

Twig's POV, Inside Morgue Compound Escape Tunnel.

The tunnel was not hard to find. It lead out right to Morgue's dock. Vexer now lead the charge in as we soon approached a ray of light. It looked to be a bookshelf. And from the other side we heard.

"It's about you're father. Don Soul."

Vexer widened his eyes as he lead us to the edge of the bookcase.

Squinting my eyes to see through the cracks of light, I widened my eyes to see we were right behind the fat bastard. It would be a perfect time to kill him, but before us also stood Shax. He sat in front of Morgue as he went on.

"His Underboss Hash has abandoned the family. Hell they can't even find him anymore. And that leaves him wide open. All that stands before us is a couple of court cops and his head Capo Vexer. He isn't nothing special, but I don't like risks."

Vexer was focused as I looked over to see he was watching it all with his own eyes.

"Don Soul is basically defenseless. This is our chance to take Boston. And you bet your ass I'm going to take it now while it's ripe."

"What do you need me to do?" Asked Shax as I leaned forward some more.

"First things first, I need Vexer dead. Go find him and handle it. Understood?"

"Yes sir." Replied Shax as Morgue then went silent to be asked.

"What about Soul?"

With a smile he replied.

"After Vexer is dead and we have what we need, I'm sending you in to finish it. I want this dealt with and ended right."

Shax looked extremely unpredictable at the moment. But with a focused nod he replied.

"Okay. But shouldn't we...?" Getting cut off from his sentence Morgue added.

"And just so we're clear Shax, I want you to know I really do care about you. You're like the son I never had and that goes a long way with me. We do this now and I promise you'll never regret it. Hell maybe after everything blows over we can look to take care of Verno and Cora and even Robotnik."

Morgue was clearly out of his mind thinking he could kill all the head families. He had to be.

"We're going to rule this business. But I need to know if your ready for this."

Nodding Shax replied.

"I'm fine. Just tell me when and where and I'll...?"

Just as he went to finish his sentence, Shax stopped to widened his eyes my way. Instantly I panicked and watched from behind the bookcase as he pulled out his handgun to fire off a sharp and quick round.

"BANG!"

Morgue immediately jumped out of his seat to shout.

"What the fuck!"

With the round hitting the wall next to me, Vexer shouted.

"Go! Go!"

Running back the way we came; it was clear Shax somehow knew we were there. I don't know how but it was too late to ask questions. Running for the back entrance, Vexer and I had what we needed. Our Dons would take our word for it. All that mattered was getting out alive.

Shax's POV.

Morgue landed on the floor as I fired off a round into the bookcase behind him. Choking almost he asked in confusion.

"What are you doing?!"

Keeping my gun out, I shouted back in response.

"If you paid any bit of attention you would have known we were being listened in on!"

"What!?" He asked in loss for words as I made haste for the exit to his office.

"Sound the alarm! I'm going after them!"

Obeying me, Morgue went to his comm to shout.

"We have intruders! Close all exits and find them!"

I couldn't believe this. This is exactly why I don't do business in person. Now I got to clean up the mess.

Twig's POV.

Running out from the small tunnel and back into the outer perimeter of the compound, Vexer stayed behind me as I led the way back to the car. You could hear the internal alarm sounding from within the compound. The spotlights always went on around the outside, but by then we were already out of sight and back around the side of the valley pass. With the car in sight Vexer ordered.

"Get in!"

"Hold it!" Both of us stopped in our tracks as a voice came at us from no more then a few meters away.

With both our heads turning we stopped to see Shax standing there breathing heavily, his gun at his side.

"You're not going anywhere." He stated as Vexer wondered.

"How did you...?!" Cutting him off Shax pointed his gun at the front tires to pull the trigger.

"BANG! BANG!"

Pulling out my M9, I aimed back at Shax who instantly aimed at me next. Both of us didn't fire a shot, we just looked at each other.

"Shoot him Twig!" Ordered Vexer as he then shouted at the car.

"Fuck!"

With his eyes locked on me Shax said.

"You'll be dead before you can even think twice about it Twig. My men will be here soon after hearing the shots. Lay down the gun and give it up. Only warning." He stated as I looked back to Vexer who wondered about my next move.

With my mind coming to a conclusion, I slowly let go of my M9. Vexer widened his eyes as Shax let out a breath.

"Twig!" Shouted Vexer as it was clear we were no longer going to escape.

Getting on my knees, I looked at Shax to beg.

"Just don't kill us."

Shax nodded to me as he pointed at Vexer who was at a loss for words.

"Show me your gun Vexer. Now!" He ordered.

Vexer who was sure we were done for then slowly pulled out and tossed his sidearm at the hood of the car. Shax who was at ease now, then made haste for the weapon. With his legs within my reach as he approached to pass me by, I quickly grabbed him by the foot to pull him out from under himself. Vexer widened his eyes as I then swung my elbow at the panicking wolf.

"Bash!"

Connecting to the side of his head, I reached for his gun that was a few inches away to grab it out from his grip.

With the weapon swapping hands, Shax sent an elbow of his own at me. Immediately I raised my hand with the gun to block it. However, when he hit me the gun was sent a good distance away. Following up the attack however; Shax rolled me over on my back to get on top. Taking a grip over his wrists, I ordered Vexer who grabbed his gun off the hood.

"Shoot him!"

Hearing my words, Shax widened his eyes and looked toward Vexer who took aim.

Immediately Shax pushed off me to leap into the nearby bushes.

"BANG! BANG! BANG!"

Leaving our sight, I quickly got up to run for the car.

"Get in!" I ordered Vexer who still looked for Shax.

"Forget about him! Let's go!"

Listening to me, Vexer got in to start the engine. With the popped tire flopping along the dirt, we rushed onto the street to pull out of the valley. Looking back, I widened my eyes to see Shax stand from out of the bushes. He kept his eyes on us until we were out of sight. Looking back at Vexer I asked.

"You okay?"

Catching his breath, he replied.

"I'm good. You?"

Nodding I replied.

"I'll live. Where to now?"

"Soul compound. We need to tell Don Soul everything Morgue and that asshole said."

Letting out a sigh, I replied.

"Okay."

Keeping the rest of the trip silent, we would soon be there. Looking to my elbow, I noticed some blood resting on the blunt edge. With a small chuckle I refocused and prepared myself for the meeting with Jeremiah Soul.

Shax's POV.

Getting out from the bushes, I looked to the road to see those two running for their lives. Letting out a sigh as Morgue's men came down the road to me, I placed my hand on my head to feel a jolt of pain. Quickly bringing back down my hand, I widened my eyes to see blood on my hand.

Growing angry, I turned to begin walking back up the road towards the compound. I was going to give Morgue an earful. I'm sure I'll get some too for letting them escape.

Next time I see that wolf he's fucking dead.
