Rebel Malfoy

Chapter Eighteen: Meeting the Grandparents

"You cannot wear that!" Lana exclaimed, making Scorpius think that she'd busted his eardrum.

Scorpius scowled at her. "What's wrong with it?" he demanded.

"You are not only going on your first date with Layla, but your first date ever! You cannot wear that!" Lana insisted.

Scorpius looked down at his clothes. He was wearing a green shirt that he'd left unbuttoned, with a grey muscle shirt under it. His pants were simple, black, and with no holes. He scowled at his sister again. "I'm not following."

"Merlin forbid you look nice for her!" Lana groaned as she stormed away from him.

Scorpius rolled his eyes as he headed for the door. He had to meet up with Layla, not stand around and listen to Lana complain about his clothes! He ran a hand down his hair, certain that it wasn't a mess or anything. Upon reaching the Entrance Hall, Scorpius found Layla standing by the door in a light pink sundress. Scorpius couldn't stop from feeling a little confused. Why would she wear something like that? It had been windy out for the past two days! Why would she wear a skirt?

"Scorpius!" Layla said happily, before her smile faded into a curious look. "Um, are you ready?"

Scorpius raised a brow. "Yes. Why else would I be here?"

"I just . . . are you really wearing that?" Layla questioned.

Scorpius repressed the urge to roll his eyes. "Yes, I am. Why do I keep getting asked that?"

"Well it's not really first date material," Layla said with a simple shrug.

"Well it is for me. Are you ready?" Scorpius demanded. But then he sighed. He had to be a gentleman, like his mother wanted for him. "Um, why don't we get going," he mumbled, leading her away.

Scorpius shoved his hands into his pockets as they stepped out into the cool autumn air. While he didn't feel cold, he glanced over Layla and wondered if she was feeling cold. He secretly rolled his eyes. Why was it so hard for girls to just wear practical clothes?

"So, where are we going?" Layla asked with a smile.

Scorpius looked at her with mild surprise. "Oh, um . . . well where do you want to go?" Didn't girls plan these things out?

"Ok, how about . . . Madam Puttifoot's?" Layla suggested.

Scorpius chuckled. "How about some place that won't make me gag?" he joked. He hesitated as soon as she said it, but even Layla let out a small laugh.

"Well where do you want to go?" Layla asked.

Scorpius shrugged. "I don't know. Three Broom Sticks?"

She sighed lightly. "Ok. That sounds fun."

So that was where they went. Scorpius let her pick a table while he grabbed two butterbeers for them. He popped the cap off of hers before handing it to her. "Here you go," he said as he placed it on the table.

Layla smiled at him. "Thank you. So, Scorpius, how was your summer?"

"It was all right. Hang out with the others. I even got Lily out to the manor for a night. Seeing Lucius's face when I brought her over was the best part," he joked lightly. "And it was a lot of fun having her over."

"Yeah, she's pretty cool for a second year," Layla agreed.

Scorpius nodded. "So, what about your summer?"

"It was a lot of fun. Except when my dad dragged both me and Cody out to this boring Quidditch match," Layla said with a playful roll of her eyes.

But Scorpius was interested. "Really? What teams?"

Layla seemed surprised at his interested, but then blushed a little. "Oh, it was the Arrows and Puddlemere," she told him. "It was such an average match. It got boring."

Scorpius sighed. "It's been a while since I've gone to a match. Last one I went to was when the Harpies played the Wasps. Harpies dominated them," he said with a smirk. "Their Seeker used the Wronski Feint. It was fantastic!"

"I bet," Layla said with an uncomfortable chuckle.

"What's this? My baby sister on a date?"

Scorpius barely missed Layla's annoyed look as they turned to see her older brother, Cody Reeser coming their way, an amused grin on his face.

Scorpius smirked. "Hey, Cody. Does this bother you?" he mocked.

Cody grinned as he sat down. "Well, you've brought her to a public place and your lips aren't attached. How can I complain?" he laughed.

"Cody, go hang out with your friends!" Layla groaned.

Cody gave her an innocent look. "But I am! Scor and I are very good friends!"

Scorpius laughed, but bit his cheek when he noticed Layla's furious look to her brother.

"Go away!" Layla seethed.

Cody just held up his hands as he stood. "Relax, I'm gone. Have fun." He started to leave, but then stopped. "Oh! And keep your knickers on."

"Go!" Layla exclaimed, her face bright red.

Scorpius couldn't stop his smirk. Leave it to Cody to take the time to bug and embarrass his sister.

Layla gave him an apologetic look. "I am so sorry about him."

Scorpius just shrugged. "It's fine. He was just joking around."

"He was being annoying," Layla mumbled.

Scorpius chuckled. "Well, to distract you, how about you tell me how your summer went?"

And Scorpius wasn't sure if she'd ever stop talking!

"Scor! How was the date?" Lars asked as Scorpius entered the seventh years' dorm. He was immediately handed a bottle of what they'd snuck in.

Scorpius sighed as he dropped down to sit on one of the beds. "No offense, Cody, but I didn't think she would ever stop talking!"

The guys all laughed, while the girls ignored them, wrapped in their own conversation. "That's a normal girl, Scor," Mitch assured. "You get used to it."

"I think I once went on a date with Scarlet, and went the whole time not saying a single word, because she went on and on," Adrian joked.

Scorpius just shook his head and took a big drink, ignoring how it burned his throat and chest.

"What about you, Dante? How was going out with my sister?" Lars asked in a mutter.

Dante just shrugged. "We had fun," was all he said. "Maybe we'll do it again, maybe not."

"She rejected you for a second date?" Raven guessed.

"She said she'd think about it," Dante mumbled.

"Damn, what a burn," Adrian laughed.

"Better than my date," Mitch sighed. "After wanting to throw up in Madam Puttifoot's face, Miley said that she wanted to go there on our next trip." Mitch cracked his neck before taking a drink. "Merlin help me."

"Help us all," Cody added.

Scorpius yawned as he walked with the others to breakfast on Monday. The day before had long, mostly due to the slight hangovers they'd had. They'd stayed in the castle all day, and had even hidden in the library, just for the quiet.

"So, Mitch, have you thought about what to get me for Christmas?" Miley teased as she walked with them.

Mitch groaned as he threw an arm around her. "It's not even December," he laughed.

Miley laughed as well. "Well never too early," she added. Mitch just shook his head and grinned as they sat down at the Slytherin table.

"Scorpius!"

Scorpius jumped at the sound, but calmed after he saw that Layla had dropped into the seat next to him, and immediately wrapped her arms around one of his own, hindering him from making his plate.

"Where were you yesterday? I tried to find you, but couldn't," Layla pouted.

"Trying to get some quiet," Lars sighed.

Scorpius carefully pulled his arm away from her. "Sorry. Had a headache yesterday," he excused as he began making his plate.

"It is not!"

"Is too!"

"It's too early for this!"

Scorpius looked up to see that Lily, Lola, and Jace were down at the end of the table. As usual, Lola and Jace seemed to be arguing, while Lily was simply rolling her eyes. He smirked. How expected of them.

"So, Scorpius," Layla said near his ear, making Scorpius flinched out of habit, "what are you doing after lessons today?"

"Quidditch practice," Scorpius answered simply. "Why?"

Layla grinned. "Can't I ask what my boyfriend's up to?" she teased.

Scorpius scowled a little at the term boyfriend. It was so . . . weird to be called that. "Oh. Good point," he said lamely.

"What the hell was that?" Raven roared, more furious than they'd ever seen him. Not that they were very happy either.

It was November now and the day of their match against Gryffindor had finally come, and it hadn't been pretty. Sure, they won, thanks to Lily. But their practice with defense the last few months hadn't matter when it came to Gryffindor's offense. Scorpius couldn't understand it. How had they beaten their strategies? They had never been beaten around that bad!

"If it wasn't for Lily, we'd have lost!" Raven screamed as he paced around the locker room, glaring at each of them where they sat on the benches. He turned on Dante. "What the hell, Montague? Where were you?"

Dante scowled as he looked at the floor. "I took a hit in the first five minutes!" he mumbled. "It wasn't easy coming back after that."

"It's not a time for excuses! I want answers!" Raven exclaimed. He punched a nearby locker. "If this is what you've all downgraded to, then expect a lot more practices! Merlin, it looks like I should have made almost every one of you try out again!"

"It won't happen again," Scorpius said with confidence . . . although he was barely brave enough to actually look their furious captain in the eye.

"It better not!" Raven snarled. "Now hit the showers! And don't think you deserve a party for that win!"

Scorpius groaned as he showered all the sweat away. His muscles were tired, and bruises were showing from all the Bludgers that hit him. Raven was right, and he really didn't feel like partying either. The game had been a big disappointment.

They all changed in silence, and left without a word, Raven had been the first out, too disappointed to even look at his team.

"Scorpius! Congratulations!" Layla said happily as soon Scorpius stepped out of the locker room.

Scorpius scowled as he continued to walk. "For what? Didn't you watch? We were horrible!"

Layla wrapped her arms around his. "Yeah, but you guys still won!"

"It's no excuse for how we played," he mumbled.

"Well the party will cheer you up," Layla assured.

"I'm not going. I'm getting something to eat and then going to bed," Scorpius retorted, still scowling.

Layla looked shocked. "But, the party is for the players! You have to be there. And it'll be our first party as a couple," she pointed out.

"I don't care!" Scorpius argued. "And that's stupid anyways! Seriously, Layla, I'm eating and then going to bed!"

"But Scorpius!" Layla whined.

Scorpius just pulled away from her and stormed away, not in the mood to talk with anyone.

Scorpius panted as he continued to jog. His muscles were burning, his lungs desiring more air, and his body sweating, his hair sticking to his forehead. He couldn't help but love the feeling as he pushed himself. But as he rounded around the castle, he began to slow when he saw the bright blue color of Mitch's spiked up hair

"What are you doing out here? Breakfast hasn't even started," Scorpius said as he approached his friend, who he now saw had a towel and bottled water in his hands. He took the water thankfully, and began to chug.

"Actually, breakfast started about ten minutes ago," Mitch told him patiently. "You've been out here jogging for a little more than an hour."

Scorpius sighed as he took the towel and wiped the sweat from his forehead. "Really? Doesn't feel like it. Well, I guess I better go take a shower."

Mitch followed him into the castle. "Scor, it's been over a week since the Quidditch match, it's almost December, and the entire team has been beating themselves up about it and torturing themselves with work outs and practices," he stated. "When will it end? Because you, my friend, are working yourself to death, harder than the others."

Scorpius scowled a little out of habit. "It was an embarrassing game, and we have to get better."

"You know, I've had to listen to your girlfriend whine to my girlfriend about how upset and cold you're being," Mitch commented with a grin.

"Different topic, please?" Scorpius begged as they walked through the dungeons. Layla had been increasingly annoying as of late, and just grated on Scorpius's nerves. He'd been avoiding her for the last two days, much to the amusement of his friends.

"How about the fact that Rex and I are starting a band?" Mitch suggested.

Scorpius couldn't stop a laugh bubbling from his lips as he looked at his friend. "What? A band?"

Mitch nodded. "Yeah. We're thinking we can talk Justin into joining us, and then we'd only need a singer." He looked at Scorpius with a sly grin. "Want to join?"

Scorpius shook his head, but still chuckled. "No thanks, but thanks for the offer . . . I guess."

The shower was refreshing enough for Scorpius, and brought him into a slightly better mood. And he felt even better when he saw that Lana had brought him two pieces of toast so that he wouldn't go hungry through class.

But his mood dropped again when he was caught by James Potter in the corridor on the way to class.

"Well, if it isn't Malfoy!" Potter laughed. "The biggest loser on the snakes' losing Quidditch team!"

"Way to stink up the air in that game, Malfoy!" Kirke laughed. "Just when we thought you couldn't be any worse!"

Scorpius glared at them. "I'm not in the mood, kittens, so you should walk away while you can."

"Oh, I'm so scared!" Potter mocked.

"You really brave enough to mess with the best Quidditch player in the school?" Matlock sneered.

Scorpius scoffed. "Oh please, his little sister runs circles around him on the pitch. And in my opinion, that doesn't say much for his talent, when a twelve-year-old out plays him," he mocked with a scowl.

"Are you giving Slytherin's Prince trouble, Potter?" Cody Reeser demanded as he suddenly came to stand by Scorpius's side.

Scorpius didn't show his surprise at Cody's appearance, but appreciated the help. He wasn't in the mood for this, but also not in the mood to stay calm and keep from a possible fight.

Potter glared at them now, although still with a cocky and arrogant grin. "Is this any of your business, Reeser?"

"Well when you do it in front of a crowd of people," Cody said, motioning to all the watching eyes around them, "then it becomes everyone's business. So yes, it is my business now."

"Well it's nothing to worry about, Cody," Scorpius assured with a smirk. "Just Potter trying to over compensate for all the small things about him." Then he sent a mocking wink to the girl Potter had his arm around.

Cody laughed as he placed a hand on Scorpius's shoulder. "Good point. Well, then why don't we leave these Gryffindors alone, and let the girl find out about Potter's disappointment on her own. You should apologize in advance, little Potter."

Scorpius left with Cody, repressing his desire to laugh as they left the Gryffindors behind. But then he looked to his friend. "Thanks for the help, Cody."

"Not a problem, Scor. Now, think you could do me a favor?" Cody inquired with a grin.

Scorpius nodded with certainty. "Of course. What is it?"

"Could you . . . well to put it bluntly, could you just break up with my sister already?" Cody said with a chuckle.

Scorpius looked at him in surprise as they stopped walking. "What?"

Cody shrugged. "It's easy to tell that you aren't into my sister, even if she's too dense to see it right now. And I'd rather you crush her tiny feelings for you now, rather than when she started to get seriously attached. So, can you do that for me?"

Scorpius blew out a sigh. Was it really obvious to everyone else? He didn't want to hurt Layla but . . . Merlin she was just too much sometimes! ". . . I'll talk to her," Scorpius assured him.

Cody gave a nod. "Thanks, Scor. You're a good guy." Then after giving him a small pat on the shoulder, Cody walked away from him.

It took Scorpius a few days before he could figure out how to talk to Layla . . . well how to break up with Layla, that is. He asked the guys in the dorm, and they all basically told him the same thing.

Be blunt and stay firm. Even if she cries, don't crumble.

Scorpius nervously tugged the hem of his shirt as he approached Layla, who was sitting at a table in the common room, studying. He cleared his throat quietly. "Um, Layla?"

Layla looked curiously, but then grew excited when she saw it was him. "Scorpius!" But then her brow furrowed in annoyance. "Finally want to talk to me?"

Scorpius nodded. "Yes. Actually, that's what I want to talk to you about. Mind if we step out to the hall?"

Layla still looked annoyed, but she shut her book, and stood from her seat. Scorpius was thankful that she followed him out without a word. Last thing he needed was for her to start rambling on about something pointless when he just wanted to get straight to the point.

Once they were out of the common room, Scorpius waited for the wall to completely shut behind them before speaking. "Look, Layla, I just want to say something and get it over with, ok?" She crossed her arms and nodded. "First of all, I'm sorry that I was being an ass, and avoiding and ignoring you. I've just been really pissed about the way the last match went, and I've been under pressure to improve, some that I've put on myself."

Layla nodded. "Ok. Well I guess I was a bit insensitive about that. But," she said quickly, "I still think we need to talk about our relationship, which obviously needs some work."

"Yeah, about our . . . relationship," Scorpius took in a small breath. "We . . . we don't really have one. At least, not anymore."

Layla looked confused for only a brief moment before realization dawned on her, and her eyes became wide with shock. "What? Are you . . . are you breaking up with me?"

Scorpius nodded firmly. "Yes, I am."

Scorpius thought he was ready for tears when her eyes watered a little, but he was in no way prepared for the anger. "Are you out of your mind? You can't break up with me!"

Scorpius raised a brow. "Um, I'm in my right mind, and yes, I can. I am. Look, when you asked me out, I said yes to give a shot. And it's not working, or what I want. We're done, Layla."

While her eyes seemed to get even more watery, her anger was still evident. "Scorpius Malfoy, you are an insensitive jackass! And I'm never speaking to you again!"

Scorpius scowled as she gave the password, and waited for the wall to slide away. "You wait until we break up to actually stay quiet? I wouldn't have avoided you for so long if you'd just done that in the first place!"

All she did was quickly walk into the common room once the wall had moved, but Scorpius was sure he'd heard a furious, and slightly muted, scream from the now closed off common room.

Scorpius groaned as he rolled over in his bed. He was tired and wanted to sleep again, but he could tell that wasn't going to easily happen. And the reason . . .

He was suddenly starving.

So with a heavy sigh he kicked off his blankets and got up from bed. He grabbed a shirt hanging out from one of his open drawers, and slipped it on as he quietly left the room. When he descended the stairs, he wasn't surprised to see a few diehard seventh year studiers still awake. But he was surprised when he noticed a girl with dark red hair sitting on the couch, reading.

He smirked. "Shouldn't you be in bed?" he asked mockingly.

Lily turned around to look at him, and gave him a small smile. "Shouldn't you?" she retorted quickly.

Scorpius chuckled lightly as he came to lean across the back the couch. "I'm hungry," he admitted, "so I'm going to go off to the kitchen. What's your excuse?"

"Reading a book that Slughorn gave me," she told him.

Scorpius gave a nod and a small hum of understanding. "Well, would you like to join me for a late snack?" he offered.

She placed something in the page as a bookmarker, and then shut it. "Sure, why not."

The two of them left the common room. Scorpius appreciated the silence. As of late, he was just so used to walking with girls who never stopped talking. It was a nice change. That and, he hadn't seen much of Lily lately, except for Quidditch practices, where they never really got much time to talk. But when they reached the kitchens, he noticed that not only was she quiet, but she seemed distracted.

"Deep thoughts?" he asked quietly.

She turned to look at him quickly, but she didn't seem very startled. "What?" she questioned as they walked in.

Scorpius shrugged. "You seemed very spaced out," he mentioned as they were swarmed by the house elves, who quickly catered to their desires and sat them down.

But Lily finally answered him. "I was just thinking about that book," she told him honestly.

Scorpius stabbed his fork into the piece of cake presented to him. "Is it any good?"

She smiled. "Yeah, it's really good."

He raised a brow. "Could I borrow it when you've finished it?" he asked politely.

She picked up her glass. "Sure, doesn't bother me." She took a quick drink before speaking again. "So, how are you and Layla?"

Scorpius smirked. "Done."

She was the one to raise a brow this time. "What happened?"

He simply shrugged. "She was annoying. Clingy, whining, and flaky. Not to mention an airhead. It was hard to keep up a conversation with her," he explained casually.

He watched as she bit her lip, obviously not wanting to laugh. "Well, I'm sorry it didn't work out," she replied.

Scorpius laughed a bit. "I'm not."

Finally, she laughed. "So, how did Layla take it?"

Scorpius rolled his eyes. "She threw a big hissy fit, and now she refuses to talk to me." He scoffed a little. "Our whole relationship, she never shuts up. Now that we're done, she's quiet. Just my luck."

Lily laughed even more. "You didn't tell her that, did you?"

Scorpius gave her a guilty and amused smile. "Yeah, I kind of did. But, hey, the truth hurts. She'll get over it."

She just shook her head. "So, single for Christmas, huh?" she teased.

Scorpius chuckled. "Thankfully. Last thing I need is my mum trying to plan a wedding for the future," he laughed. "Besides, I'd rather be single and bored than dating and getting my ear talked off."

"Well sorry to hear about the boredom. I'll be just as bored though," she laughed.

"Well maybe we'll have to appease each other's boredom over the break," Scorpius suggested with a smirk.

"How about the lion den this time around?" Lily joked.

"It's a date," Scorpius laughed eagerly before taking another big bite of his cake.

"You're seriously going to the Potter house tomorrow?" Mitch asked with a loud laugh.

Scorpius smirked, unable to keep from being smug. It was true. He and Lily had been writing letters back and forth ever since the start of Christmas break, and always they discussed the idea of Scorpius staying at the Potter house for at least one night. And finally, it was happening, with Harry Potter's personal approval!

"Absolutely! And I'll be surrounded by all different muggle things . . . I told my father it would be like helping me study for class!" Scorpius laughed.

"Lucius was in the room, wasn't he?" Mitch guessed, still grinning.

Scorpius nodded. "But of course. And I hope that both Potter brothers were around when Lily mentioned my coming over."

"So, what will be on the agenda plan?" Mitch inquired curiously.

Scorpius stopped packing his bag and dropped onto the bed next to Mitch. "No idea. So, it should be awesome. She says that they have all kinds of muggle things in their house, since their father was raised by them as a kid."

"That sounds awesome," Mitch sighed as he ran a hand through his hair, making it stick up a bit more. "Better than my plans. Miley's dragging me over to have dinner with her family, now that I'm her boyfriend. It's so stupid. I already know them!"

Scorpius shook his head. "Girls. There's no sensible reason to half the things they do."

Scorpius took in a deep breath as he got ready to enter the Potter house. He was excited and eager. He was eager to be able to annoy her brothers in their own territory, and they not be able to do anything. But he was also excited to see his friend, and how she lived. And . . . well to be honest, he was a little curious to see how a hero and his family lived and went about being a family.

When he stepped right out of the Floo Network, he found himself in a slightly familiar sitting room. And he smiled when he saw Lily waiting for him. "Why hello, Lily Lu," he greeted.

She smiled happily at him. "Welcome to the Potter house," she said jokingly. "And be ready. James has left, but Rose has joined us."

Scorpius chuckled. "What fun!" He set down his bag, and was unable to stop himself from looking around. There were dozens and dozens of pictures on the walls. But unlike at the manor, they weren't large family portraits or paintings of ancestors. They were normal, framed, pictures of the family. There was a wedding photo, pictures of all three Potter children along with Teddy Lupin, and pictures of other family members. But as he looked around, he found himself looking at something else, something that fascinated him.

"So, this is a . . . telebisable?" he inquired as he stepped toward it, looking it over.

"A television," Lily corrected, and Scorpius could hear her amusement. "It uses electricity, and it lets us watch muggle shows and sports. Do you know what shows are?"

Scorpius nodded as he kneeled to look closer. "Yeah, I remember that from Muggle Studies. They don't really make sense to me, but I know what they are."

"Would you like to watch one?" Lily asked.

Scorpius looked at her and raised a brow. "Can we?"

She motioned toward the couch. "Sit down. I'll give you a better lesson than Professor Fleet can," she teased.

Scorpius couldn't hold his fascination as he watched the television. There were so many things! First they watched this show where the muggles were completely real, and talking about all their drama, then Lily hit this button and he was suddenly watching something that looked like drawings, but animals were talking!

And what really threw Scorpius were the sports! The rules were so stupid! The game called football was the most confusing!

"Hit him!" Scorpius called, ready to stand on his feet.

"You can't hit someone for the ball in football," Lily said wit ha roll of her eyes.

"That's stupid!" Scorpius groaned. "First, you can't use your hands, and then you can't hit someone? What good are hands then?"

Lily laughed at him. "It's a god thing you don't play muggle sports, then," she mocked.

Scorpius just dismissed her jokes as he leaned back and looked at her. "All right, so I've seen a tv, what else is there?"

Lily smiled at him. "Grab your bag. I'll show you my room. There are a few other muggle things in there I can show you," she offered.

Scorpius happily followed after her, curious as to what else she could show him. But he couldn't help but smirk as they met Albus and Rose in the hall. Scorpius ignored their looks of disgust and dislike.

"Go get a shovel, Rose. I see a snake we should cut in half," Albus sneered.

Scorpius faked a kind smile. "Why hello, Al. May I call you that?" he mocked. "After all, we'll be in the same house for a few days."

Lily grinned. "Well, Scorp, we should continue. Albus's face here looks like it might explode, and I don't want to dirty my shirt," she joked as Albus seemed to get angrier and angrier. Lily brushed by the two Gryffindors, so Scorpius followed after her.

The room she brought him to surprised him. It was such a . . . normal room. It wasn't overly girly, but it didn't look like the room of a tomboy either. Simple colors, a normal bed. The girliest thing in the room was a vanity, but leaning against the wall next to it was her broom. But . . . there was one thing she really needed in here.

"For being a girl, you have an awesome room . . . except for one thing," he mentioned with a grin.

Lily raised a brow as she sat on her bed. "And what would that be?"

"I don't see a Slytherin banner, or even a poster," he pointed out.

She grinned. "Well, you're right. I'll have to fix that."

Scorpius held up a hand. "No worries," he assured. "I know just how to get one."

Lily dropped to her back. "How is that?"

"Lana. Her dad's got a few that graduating kids have left in the dorms," he said, thinking about a few that he'd gotten in just that way. "That's how I got mine." He looked at her, then moved to drop down next to her.

Lily laughed. "Moocher," she teased.

"Your point?" he replied with a sigh. "So, where am I sleeping?" he inquired, looking up at her ceiling as well.

"You are getting the most comfortable bed ever!" she said, with obvious amusement. "We call it a couch."

Scorpius couldn't help but laugh. "That is awesome! Just the place I wanted to sleep!" In all honesty, Scorpius had never actually slept on a couch. After all, as a Malfoy, he got only the best. This would be different, and he was . . . well a little excited for different.

Lily looked at him, prompting him to look over at her. She was smiling honestly. "I'll make sure that my brothers cause no trouble," she said, her honesty in her voice as well as her smile.

"And I'll pray that I live through the night," he teased. She giggled cutely before turning to look casually at the ceiling again. Scorpius stretched his arm out, and his hand hit something. He picked up what it was, and saw it was a potion book. "So, is this the book Slughorn gave you?"

She looked at him again, and her eyes glanced to the book. "Yeah, that's the one," she told him.

He sat up and began to thumb through it a little. But he stopped when a bookmark caught his attention. It was a picture of a young woman, who Scorpius couldn't help but notice that Lily looked a lot alike, in subtle ways. "Who's this?"

Lily sat up and looked at the picture. "That's my grandma. The one that died," she answered.

Scorpius looked closely at the picture again. The first Lily Potter. The two of them . . . they had the same dark red hair, the same smile, fair skin . . . and even the shape of their eyes were similar, even if the color reminded him of her idiot brother.

"You look a lot like her," he told her. "Around the eyes and such."

Lily sat by him casually. "You're not the first person to tell me that," she said, her voice a bit soft.

He looked at her. "How many other people told you that?"

She laughed a little. "Only one other," she admitted. "Slughorn gave me that as well. He said he has a lot of pictures of his favorite past students and Slug Club members, so he gave it to me," she explained.

Scorpius looked back at the picture. Lily Potter. The grandmother to his friend. The one she never met. The one who saved the life of her son, thereby deciding his fate, making him a hero after killing the most powerful dark lord. A woman . . . who was buried in this town alongside her husband, who had done all he could to protect his wife and son. Two very brave heroes, and they were just buried in a normal muggle graveyard. Yet, all of his bigoted ancestors were buried in his backyard, apparently with prestige.

Scorpius looked at Lily. He was unsure of how to ask his question in a polite and kind way. "Can I see where your grandparents are buried?" he questioned softly.

Lily raised a brow. "Why would you want to see that?"

Scorpius rubbed the back of his neck. "Well, don't laugh, but I've never seen a graveyard beyond the creepy one in my own backyard," he admitted.

She laughed, obviously a little curious, but she agreed. "Um, sure. I'll show you. Come on."

Lily led him back downstairs, and after letting her mother know they were going for a walk, she led him outside to the twilight. Lily led him through Godric's Hollow, and Scorpius was curious about all the lights on the houses, and strange things on their lawns.

"So, what do you know about this place?" Scorpius asked. So she told him all she seemed to know. But Scorpius couldn't understand why they put so much work into decorating their houses and yards just for one night.

"That sounds like a lot of work," he mumbled.

"Hello, Lily!"

Scorpius turned to see an older woman waving to them. Scorpius looked her over as Lily talked with her. She seemed . . . like a muggle, plain and simple. When the woman disappeared back into her home, Scorpius looked to Lily. "Who was that?"

Lily smiled as they started to walk again. "Mrs. Dempsey, and elderly woman that adored my parents when they were young and first moved here," she explained. "Now she adores us kids. When my parents' work schedules get hectic, she offers to watch us. She's really nice."

"She's a muggle?" Scorpius said, going with his hunch.

She nodded. "Yeah. So she's how I really know a lot about muggles. Her, my father, my aunt Hermione, and my grandfather all contribute to my knowledge of muggles," she stated.

Scorpius smiled. "Remind me to meet your grandfather sometime then."

Then they arrived at a gate, and Scorpius was now able to see tombstones in the muggle electric lights. "Here is where we bury the dearly departed." They stepped past the gate, and Lily began to point out the more notable resting places of the dearly departed. "Ignotus Peverell is buried here, as is Godric Gryffindor, and the Dumbledore family." But when she brought him to two headstones, she seemed to be a bit more serious. "And here is where James and Lily Potter are buried." Not only was her voice a little quieter, but softer.

Scorpius looked down at where they stood. He brushed the snow off of the stone. "It's bare," he mumbled. All the other graves around them had flowers. But . . .

"My father usually waits until Christmas to put flowers here again," Lily told him. Scorpius looked at her. He hadn't known that she heard him. "He said that on Christmas during the war was the first time he'd come here. So he does it ever year."

Scorpius looked back at the graves. At first, he thought how sad it must be for them to be visited so little. But . . . he could kind of understand how hard it must be for Harry Potter to have to relive the horrors of his past.

The sight of a rosebush caught his eye, so he walked over to it and, avoiding the thorns, plucked off a single flower. He was amazed that it was in full bloom. Scorpius held it up to Lily as he walked back. "I'm surprised these still grow."

"Magic," Lily said simply. "There's a lot of it in this village, even if the muggles don't ever notice it. They just make up their own reasons for the odd things around here."

Scorpius nodded as he put the flower before the grave. He gave her a smile. "Just so they know that it's no just their son thinking about them this Christmas," he explained.

She smiled softly at him, and seemed to appreciate his actions. She walked over to the same bush, and picked a flower of her own. Then she came back to kneel before the grave, and placed the flower next to his. "Happy Christmas, Grandma and Grandpa," she whispered.

Scorpius kneeled next to her. The names on the graves stared at him. How strange it must be for a Malfoy to be before the graves of Potters. Known enemies in the wars. He glanced up at the sky. "Happy Christmas, Mr. And Mrs. Potter."
