Taking it back to classic Beat. I've actually been dabbling around with the idea of eventually (thinking WAY down the road) making a sequel crackfic to this fanfic, but from Beat's perspective. Be sure to follow me if that's something you'd like to read if I ever got around to putting that out.
Chapter 69: Strike While the Iron is Hot
"Rhyme! I got offered a new job!"
"No kidding? Tell me more, Beat!"
"Looks like an apprenticeship, yo! Apparently, word leaked that I've been grinding hard with the construction crew, and a wood carver wants to take me under his wing!"
"That's great, Beat! But is this really something you want to do, especially since graduation is coming up? You don't want to go to college?"
"Rhyme, I think we both know I ain't exactly the college type. Lectures put me to sleep, I've never read a book longer than an instruction manual, and I like working with my hands. I ain't gonna piss away my time on starting a higher education that I ain't gonna ever finish."
"Fair enough. But why wood carving?"
"Did Phones tell ya that Mr. H offered him a job too?"
"No, he didn't!"
"Yeah. I think he's gonna go to college, but music and graffiti are a few of his obvious passions, and being an employee for Mr. H is the perfect part-time job for him. I wanted to do something like that too. Something that might lead toward the perfect use of my talents in the future."
"Do you know what that is?"
"I love skating, Rhyme. And I've gotten good at construction. So I thought to myself, what if someday, I was designing my own decks? How dope would that be!"
"That's an awesome dream! I support you, Beat. You should definitely take this opportunity then, and strike while the iron's hot!"
"Ya really think so?"
"I know so."
Two Days Later…
"Beat! What happened to you?!"
"Well, I took your advice and waited till the iron was hot, and then I tried to strike my master."
"And?"
"And he pulverized me. But after that, he told me he liked the "cut of my jib," so I guess I've still got a job…"
"Jesus Christ, Beat…only you could get away with assaulting your boss and winning his respect in the process."
