Hey everyone! This is my newest chapter. Not so much filled with action but a brief character study. I wanted to see if I could get good dialogue flowing between Norma and Alex alone as a bit of a personal test. That's what writing is about, right? Pushing yourself to the next limit. So, I hope everyone likes this new chapter. Thank you to all who read and leave kind, thoughtful reviews, they make my day and put a smile on my face 10 miles wide. Enjoy - MJ123 :)
The sun streamed in through the legendary lace curtains and shone on Norma's face that next morning. She sat up slightly, her body still pretty sore from what Alex and her had done the previous night. With a small naughty smile, she nudged Alex awake knowing he would be late for work if she hadn't have.
"Mph," he groaned, rolling off of his stomach and onto his back. He leaned his head back further into the feather soft pillow with high knowledge that he would miss the bed. He dreaded waking up in the mornings. He reached a hand out to rest on Norma's hip. "Are you making coffee?".
She smiled and leaned down to give him a morning kiss, "Of course. Who else would?" her snarky playful tone froze once she stood from the bed and tossed on her robe. "Gee, my back sure is sore".
He chuckled and moved to rest on his side, his head propped up by his hand, "Wow, I wonder why," his voice poked at her, Norma looked to him and shook her head. The clever bastard knew exactly why her body was sore.
She sighed and walked over to the bed, sitting on the edge and taking his hand. "Y'know, we really should stop going at it so hot and heavy. Were gonna break something soon enough," she laughed, playing with his fingers.
"Eh, I think it'll be fine. That's what keeps a relationship healthy, right? Really good sex?" he asked, moving her hand closer to kiss the top of it.
"Yeah, I suppose. But...uh- I think there are some other reasons we should stop with the rough sex..." she began, not wanting to tell him about Dylan's complaint from the previous night. She knew she had to however, if not he would keep making her scream and that would only make her kids more unsettled.
"What are you talking about?" he asked, on guard immediately. He was starting to think he was hurting her when they were in bed and that made his mentally abuse himself, the thought of hurting her in any way physically was like a sharp stab in the stomach. "Am I hurting you, Norma?".
She shook her head with a small smile, "No, no, no, nooo...not at all. We are absolutely fine in the um...pleasure department. It's just...Dylan heard us last night."
He blanched the moment she told him, quickly sighing and dropping a palm to his head, "Well great...I haven't even fully moved in yet and I've mentally scared the poor kid for life."
"No, hun...you haven't done anything. Dylan is a grown man, he'll get over it. Besides, I told him I'd pay for therapy," she laughed in attempt to cool the mood now setting in the room.
"It's just a bit awkward," he said, shaking his head and looking at her.
"Just forget about it. Wipe it from your mind and move on. We'll stay quite from now on and tone down our...sexual deviancy, alright?".
"I suppose," he agreed hesitantly, looking to the window before his eyes met back up with her face, "So, anything going on today?".
She nodded and stood from the mattress. "Yeah, I think I'm gonna ask Katie if she wants to get some paint and supplies for Ella's room today. There's a great little shop in downtown White Pine that I think will do just the job."
"Sounds nice, you wanna borrow some cash so you can get everything you might need?" he offered, starting to rise from the bed himself.
"Nah, I think I'll have enough to get the bare essentials," she said, moving to the dresser to pick out an outfit for the day. "And what about you, Sheriff Romero? Any heavy crimes to deal with?
"Yeah, I have a shit ton of files to sort through today, I just...I fucking hate my job," he sighed, a hand moving to run through his short hair.
A silence filled the room before Norma looked to him, biting her lip, "Have you ever thought about retiring? Y'know stepping down and letting someone else do the dirty work?". She knew how touchy a subject it would be to mess with as Alex was a tough man who wouldn't trade the power he had for shit from numerous townspeople about what kind of job he'd done tending to White Pine Bay. He wanted security not a stupid legacy after all.
"I've thought about it before...a few times actually. Honestly, I think I would collapse without the job. I feel I'd be lost, what would I do afterwards?" he asked, stress flowing through his body with the thought. It was ironic actually, normal people retired to feel less stress and the idea of retiring only brought Alex stress. But that was who he was, someone who was always on edge even in the best of circumstances.
"Well, you could just work at the motel with me and Norman and Emma. We could possibly bring in more business that way," she smiled, poking at him.
"Oh yeah sure," he scoffed, "Come see the retired sheriff folding towels, I'm sure that will make people book reservations up the ass."
"Okay, maybe not," she smiled, thinking about something that would suite Alex. He would need to have a job that would keep him satisfied and busy but not too stressed out. "Well...you like fishing. What about that shop down by the dry cleaners? You could do things there like...I don't know sell fishing bait or put some hooks together."
He thought about the idea and grinned a bit, "Yeah, I don't know about that. I do love fishing but that doesn't mean I wanna come home smelling like dead fish everyday. Keep in mind you're the one sleeping next to me."
"Oh please, you think I'm that shallow? You could come home smelling like a dead body and I wouldn't care cause you'd be happy," she chuckled, starting to change into her outfit of choice.
"A bit morbid of a comparison, isn't it Mrs. Bates?" he joked, assembling his police uniform for the day.
"Haven't heard you call me that in a long long time," she smiled, buttoning the last notch on her shirt before moving over to make the bed.
"Yeah, well get used to it because I think I'm gonna bring it back."
"Fine," she said, fluffing his pillow, "But prepare to be met with Sheriff Bulldog in return."
"Whatever. Just know I can arrest you for calling me that," he winked, pulling on his pants and eyeing her as she tided up.
"I'd like to see you try."
"I believe I already have," he smiled, walking over to smooth out the covers on top of the sheet to save her the excess trouble.
"Alright asshole," she joked, moving to walk out of the room, "You coming downstairs for that coffee?".
"Right behind you, Mrs. Bates."
