The next day, Alex was finally released from the hospital and Norma was having one hell of a hard time keeping him off his feet. All he did was resist, but she understood that he wasn't used to being coddled or taken care of, it still didn't stop her from getting tough with him however. It was a good thing everyone was on board, Dylan went out to pick up some things from the house with Emma and Katie had already started on making dinner for the household, luckily she and Ella came home without a scratch on either of them.
Norma finally got Alex set up in her bed, his head propped up by several pillows and the comforter coming up to burrito him in the bed comfortably. She finished fluffing the pillow behind his head and leaned down to plant a kiss on his forehead, "Is everything okay, sweetheart? Are you comfortable enough?" she cooed, a hand resting on his cheek.
He cringed a bit as she cared for him, he didn't like his girlfriend acting like a mother to him, it was a little creepy. He also wanted to be a man and being nursed back to health was out of the question. The title of Sheriff did not come along with being babied. "I'm fine, Norma. I shouldn't be in this bed at all, I-"
"I don't want to hear it, Alex. Don't give me that shit. You were shot today, I'm not going to let you get up and move around for a little while until the doctor tells us that your bullet wound is good and healed," she said, this was the way it had always been. The pair had fought ever since their second or third time making contact, though she was in love with him she would never give in so easily.
He sighed and looked up at her with a tired glare, "You're only gonna win this one because those stupid hospital antibiotics made me so tired," with that, he laid back down in the bed focused his attention out the window.
She grinned in victory, there was a sense of pride that washed over her whenever she could win his agreement, "Good. Now, is there anything I can get you? Do you want anything?" she asked, it reminded her of when Norman used to be sick as a child, she would always do whatever it took to make him feel better.
He shook his head and eyed her, "Well...when you say anything, do you really mean anything?" he asked, trying to disguise the faint desire in his voice.
She looked at him and immediately her eyes widened, "No, no...the doctor said you can't do anything like that for the next few weeks. Which means," she began, breaking to get up and straighten out the covers, "No sex for you."
His head fell back hard on the pillow as he pouted a bit, "Oh c'mon...I can't last more than two days without you," he wished it was a lie but it was far from being a joke. She was like a drug to him, he needed to have her when a craving called.
"You're gonna have to try to keep yourself contained for a few weeks, okay? And I promise when you're all healed and you can do all that good stuff again, we'll make it special," she promised, running a hand through his short hair to ease his mind a bit.
"But...I mean don't they say sexual healing does the best job?" he asked, wishing she would give in and be intimate with him. He couldn't help it, he was a man and he was attracted to someone.
"Sweetie," she laughed, "You're not gonna win this one either. It'll go by before you know it. Now, try to focus on something else to get your mind off of that."
"Okay, how about Steven? What are we gonna do about that?" he asked changing from needy boyfriend to Sheriff. Surprisingly enough it was a switch that was easy to flip.
She sighed and put a hand to her forehead, she didn't do well with stress and this was the worst it had been in a long time, the thought of him being out on the loose was too much to think of, "I don't know, Alex. But I'm really scared...I don't wanna see anyone else get hurt and I don't want him to try anything more with you."
He could sense her getting emotional and if there was anything he hated seeing the most it was Norma crying or getting worked up, "Okay," he began, figuring something out quick and returning to her, "Here's what I need you to do. You have to get everyone together. I need you, Dylan, Norman, Emma, Katie, and Ella in the living room so I can devise some kind of plan."
"Alex, I already said I don't want you getting up and moving around," she said, wondering what his idea would be to handle such an awful man.
"All I need to do is walk down those stairs and sit on the couch for a few minutes, it won't be anything strenuous. I need to keep all of you safe," he said, hoping it would change her tune.
She held a hand up in defense and sighed, "Alright. Fine. I'm helping you walk down those stairs though."
He nodded and lay back in the bed, thinking about a good plan that would get this family out of the muck and mud yet again. Norma rose from the bed and walked to the door, "I'm going to get everyone together like you wanted and then I'll come back up to get you," she said, leaving the room.
She couldn't say she had any doubts that Alex would go his job perfectly. He had done his magic and rescued them all before, it was a no brainer that he would do it again this time.

It was an hour and a half later. Norma had successfully gotten everyone together in the living room. She sat on the floor with the baby in front of her, resting on a blanket as Norma appeased her. Katie, Dylan, and Emma all sat together on the love seat while Norman faced them in a single chair. Alex was perched up on the leather couch as he looked at everyone with tired eyes and a willingness to help.
"I'm gonna start off by saying I don't know much about this guy," he said, trying to maintain eye contact with everyone, "I don't know how dangerous he is and if there is anyone he wants to hurt while on the loose. All I know is he's out there and he is looking for blood."
Katie's face immediately grew flushed and she dropped a hand to her cheek, she was scared shitless of what might happen to anyone in the family that had so gratefully taken her in, "I just wanna apologize to everyone here. I feel like if I hadn't let him come here none of you would be in trouble and," she stopped to motion at Alex, "You wouldn't have gotten shot. I'm so sorry."
"It's alright, it's not your fault," Alex reassured the girl, "He still probably would've done something irrational. Right now it's looking like his mental state is not in the best place. I need to ask if these signs were ever prevalent when you were all a family."
Norma looked to Norman and Dylan and shrugged, "Not really. I know he liked to drink but that ran in the family...his brother did the same exact thing."
Dylan chimed in, "I mean, I was never close with my Uncle Steven but...I always assumed he would be pretty fucked up...y'now based on the way Sam was and everything."
Norman kept his mouth shut and peered at his mother, it was uncomfortable having everyone in their home. If he could have one wish, it would be that he and his mother could be together along. No one else to ruin what they had. For now he put on a face and shrugged as well, "I never really knew him."
Katie looked around and sighed, "He started to drink pretty heavily after Ella was born. It scared me a lot. He was never violent, just a little creepy. One little thing going wrong would drive him almost obsessive to the point of near insanity. Like winning back Norma...that was a big thing for him."
Norma put her head down, "I just don't know why, we haven't spoken in years, why come back now? What's the point?" she asked openly, a hand on the baby's stomach to relax her.
Alex intervened this time, "It doesn't matter. The guy is clearly off and I need you all to listen to me right now. Everyone in this room right now is in danger. I don't wanna scare anyone but it's true. We are all under the radar."
"But what are we gonna do about it? It's not like we can just go out and hunt this man," Emma said, with a small chuckle to try and lighten the mood.
"I'm not gonna suggest that," he said, leaning in close to the group, "We all need to stay here. I mean it. Everyone should have a partner in this house as ridiculous as that sounds. I want Dylan and Norman to share a room. Katie and Emma will stay in the guest room as planned. And me, Norma, and the baby can share her room. Is everyone clear on that?" he asked, giving them all the most serious look he could muster up.
Everyone nodded. And with that he spoke up again, "I'm going to give everyone some kind of weapon. I'm keeping the gun in Norma's room, Dylan I'll give you a taser, and Katie, I'm giving you my mace. If this guy enter's the house tonight or anytime until he is caught, I want them used for protection only."
Once again, everyone agreed with his words. That's the way he liked it anyway. As long as everyone obeyed, Alex would do his job and keep them safe.
