Flinky: Hello world! Here I am with another chapter.
Red: Took too long.
Flinky: No, it didn't. This is 4,000 words (excluding these intro scenes) in about five days (keep in mind, the most recent update before this was just editing chapter 10, which I sorta messed up). Although I will admit that other stories do update faster with larger chapters, I think I go above the average.
Blue: I say it took you too little time. You have no quality.
Flinky: That is highly subjective, and as such, I cannot produce a definite counter. However, I will say that there are few grammar mistakes, especially for an author's second story. Now, I'm going to start listing Red's Pokémon confirmed to date. No one else though, because they don't battle as much as Red.
Red's Pokémon:
Ignite(Charmeleon)
Moves: Flamethrower, Metal Claw, Fire Fang, Smokescreen
Blacklight (Umbreon)
Moves: Bite, Faint Attack, Quick Attack, Shadow Ball
Omni (Mew)
Moves: Every one except Judgement
Glow (Metapod)
Moves: Tackle, Harden
Spark (Pikachu)
Moves: Thunderbolt, Quick Attack, Discharge, Nuzzle
Storm (Pidgeotto)
Moves: Gust, Wing Attack, Quick Attack, ?
"Cerulean City."
We looked at the mass of cities in front of us. The next city to be freed.
"So, what are we waiting for?" I asked. "Let's go!"
"Well, just running in will be like waving a flag and yelling 'WE ARE HERE! PLEASE ARREST US!'" Leaf said.
"I guess. Has anyone here brought an outfit different than what we're wearing right now?"
Michael's hand went up.
"And it's not a Rocket uniform?"
His hand went right back down.
"Great. Well, I wanted to break in with force anyways. I heard there's a bike shop run by Team Rocket. Interested?"
Everyone nodded.
"Good. Having a bike will help get us to the next city anyways."
"How can we do anything while pedaling?"
"First, I'm pretty sure that there are some motorbikes. Second, It will be two per people a bike, so one can drive and the other can attack."
"Alright."
We worked around the outside of the city until we were in the south west section with the shop. Looking in, we saw a grunt on the counter, five pedal bikes, and three motorbikes.
Me and Leaf were to run in and take the bikes while Blue took down the grunt. Michael was out standing guard.
I drew my gun (Leaf doesn't like shooting as much as me and I don't trust Blue) and pointed it at the grunt. He immediately put his hands up. Blue tied him up and tossed us the keys. I got on one and revved the engine.
I yelled out to Leaf "Is this a bad time to say I never rode one of these before?"
"Yep!"
"Oh. Okay then. LET'S GO!"
I took off first. The balance was like riding a bicycle just much faster. Leaf was right behind me, with Blue on the same bike. I picked up Michael and we made our way to the tower.
"Michael, there are some grunts coming up at the next turn. Can you deal with them?"
"Ask Magnetric!"
He sent his Pokémon out. Magentric started shooting some electric attack at them, giving me a gap to drive through. Leaf wasn't behind me anymore. I hoped she just took another route.
I started hearing a helicopter's motor, and sure enough, there was one. It started spraying us with bullets. I started swerving to avoid them, hoping for some cover. Unfortunately, there was none to be seen.
"Red, we can't take much more! They're bound to hit us eventually!"
"Not exactly. Soldiers from dictatorships can't hit anything!"
"How do you know this?"
"Ever watched Star Wars?"
"What?"
"You finally broke the fourth wall. I'm so happy for you!"
"Omni, shut up. Michael, do you have anyone with protect?"
"Sorry, nope."
"Omni can't help because Team Rocket is near. By the way, why can't you help me during those times?"
"Red, focus on driving!"
"Right!"
Damn ADD…
After some driving, I found a bridge that we could hide under for some cover. I stopped there and waited for a while. Then, Team Rocket being the unfair jerks they are, blew up the bridge.
"DAMN IT!"
I had to get out of there, but there wasn't anywhere else to hide. No matter how inaccurate they are, I can't run forever. I kept on driving looking for Leaf or some way out of this mess. As I drove, I noticed some armored vehicles in front of us, blocking the road. They had mounted miniguns, aiming at me.
"Shit."
I turned around to see a wall of grunts. Unfortunately for them, that's easier to drive through than a car. I ran into them. I only ran over someone's leg who didn't jump out of the way in time.
"Sorry!" I yelled. I worked my way to the tower and got off the bike. It was locked from the inside.
"What to do now...
"Red, look up."
I did and saw a second helicopter with a missile attached.
"Arceus, why do you hate us?"
I started driving when they launched it. It was coming at me somewhat slowly compared to what I expected. Just as it looked like it was over, a blur went but and picked up Michael and I. Since it no one was holding me, it was either Psychic or Extrasensory. I looked to my side and saw an orange Jeep. Strange, since Jeeps are more of an American brand instead of Japanese.
"You needed help?"
In the driver seat was Silver. Leaf and Blue were also there.
"I'm not even going to ask."
"It's better if you don't. Alakasam, put them inside."
Silver's Alakasam lowered us in the back seats.
"Where are you going?"
"Turning around. You need to go to the tower, right?"
"Yea."
"And we're going."
Silver made a sharp turn, slowing down some of the copters overhead.
"Okay. You four jump out and hide. I'll keep driving to distract them. Rendezvous at Nugget Bridge if you fail or the Pokémon Center if you succeed. Good luck."
Before I had time to ask what was going on, I jumped out along with my group and ran behind the tower. After waiting for ten minutes, I thought that we could break in. Leaf had her Ditto transform into a key to open the doors and we walked in.
Instantly, there were grunts surrounding us.
"Everyone, come on out!" I sent out Ignite, Blacklight, Spark, Storm, and Glow.
The grunts used a very new and original combination of Zubats and Rattatas.
"Spark, make it end with Discharge."
Even though everyone was ready for battle, Spark just shocked all of them. Since Discharge effects many Pokemon at once, I was able to finish them in one go.
"Let's move!"
I recalled my Pokémon, then we ran up to the next level, completely ignoring the concept of stealth. Here, there was a door that lead into a small hallway. On the other end of it, there was the bottom of a vertical swimming pool.
"In what universe is this a good idea?"
Everyone just had confused expressions on their faces.
"Well, time to have some fun."
I took out some of the C-4 from my bag and planted it on the glass.
"We better go."
We ran back through the grunts, who were confused as to why we were going back where we came from. Once we were outside, I set it off. There was a bang, a stream of grunts running out the building, and a rush of water.
I hi-fived Michael, Leaf, and even Blue.
Once the water stopped coming out of the door, a quite young girl wearing a blue swimsuit stepped out.
"YOU!"
"Yea?"
"Y-YOU DESTROYED THIS! IT WAS MAGNIFICENT! IT WAS-"
"Shut up."
"I WILL DESTROY YOU!"
"Try me."
"Grr… Go! Staryu!"
"Come at me. Go, Spark!"
Normally, I don't like to abuse type-advantage, but she seems pissed and if I lose, I'm in big trouble.
"Staryu, Harden."
"Not going to help. Thunderbolt!"
Like my battle with Brock, using a special move bypassed moves like Harden. This battle was not different, as Staryu was injured a lot.
"Recover!"
Great. A recover troll. Just what I needed.
"Spark, Keep using Thunderbolt!"
"Use Harden! When he hits you, use Recover!"
This went on for a while. Spark couldn't do damage to the point of Recover not helping. Time for some improvisation.
"Spark, use Quick Attack!"
"Hah, I thought you were smarter than that."
"Wow. Really? If I had a nickel for every time someone's underestimated me… Whatever. That was just to lull you into a false sense of security. Nuzzle!"
When Pikachu got close, he used Nuzzle, paralysing Staryu.
"Now, Thunderbolt him into oblivion!"
Since Staryu was paralysed, it couldn't use recover and was taken down.
"Annyoing little kid."
"And how old are you?"
"17. So what?"
"Funny, I'm 16. That means you're being a hypocrite."
"You will taste the pain of defeat now. Go, Starmie!"
"Well, Pikachu, get back."
I recalled him to his Pokéball.
"Now, go, Storm!"
I sent out my newly caught Pidgeotto.
"Starmie, Water Pulse!"
"Dodge, then Wing Attack!"
Storm dodged the attack, then closed in the distance.
"Don't let it hit you. Rapid Spin!"
"Stop the attack!"
I saw her give a smirk.
"I'm not going to let you enjoy that for long. Gust!"
Storm flapped his wings creating a strong gust of air, knocking back Starmie.
"And finally, Wing Attack!"
He delivered the final blow knocking Starmie out. As she recalled him, she had a confused look on her face, then started crying. I take it that she was freed.
"Hey, how are you feeling?"
"Everyone is hurt and it's my fault…"
I dragged her into the tower so the gunts can't hear.
"It's not your fault. Blame Team Rocket."
"But I let them get me."
"So what if they did? What are you going to do now?"
"Yea...I'll fix things! I make things back to how they used to be!"
"That's the spirit!"
"Now, one more thing. What's your name?"
"Red, aka Fire."
"Wait a minute, you're the guy who saved Pewter!"
"Yep."
"Wow! I can't believe I'm talking to you!"
"Come on. I just did it because I completely and utterly hate Team Rocket. By the way, I never got your name."
"Oh, it's Misty."
"Well Misty, it was nice to meet you. When will you change the rules?"
"Right now."
She ran up the tower and went through the same procedure as Brock did. The Pokemon Center was open, along with Pokémarts and the dictator rules have been abolished.
I met up with the others and we went to the center for a place to spend the night. After we got our rooms, we had a meeting over what to do next, with Silver coming too.
"Alright. First, Silver, what happened with you?"
"You already know Team Rocket captured the others in my group. I had to trust my Pokémon to get out of there. I started looking at them differently after that incident."
"Okay, you became friends with your Pokémon and stuff. But what are you going to do now?"
"I think I'm going to try to save Ethan, Kris, and Lyra, but I don't know where they are."
"We saw Lyra at Mt. Moon, but we don't know where she went afterwards."
"That somewhat helps."
"Next up is what to do now. The closest city is Saffron, but that will be an incredibly difficult because of it's size and the amount of Rockets there."
MIchael said "We can take Route 9 to Rock Tunnel, which leads to Lavender Town."
Silver said "I wouldn't recommend it. Blue-"
The Blue with us said "Huh?"
"No. The Blue that hates Red."
"You're not making this any easier."
"The Blue that hates the first Red."
"Ohh," Blue and I said in unison.
"Anyways, he's pretty strong. When I was with my da- err, I mean when I was working for Team Rocket, I met Blue and he has a huge variety of high-leveled Pokemon. I would save him for around the end."
"Great. We can't take Saffron, Lavender Town is a no, what now?"
Leaf said "I know a way."
"What?"
"There's an underground passage from the entrance to Saffron to Vermilion. Vermilion isn't as overrun as Saffron."
"I don't see a problem with that. Any objections?"
No one said anything.
"Okay then. Dismissed."
We went to our rooms. It was like last time where Leaf was with me, and Michael was with Blue (I feel sorry for him), but this time Silver was in a room to himself. He's not much of a talker anyways. After making my call to May, we crashed.
The next day, as we got ready to leave, Nurse Joy stopped us.
"Please, hold on a minute!"
I turned around to see Nurse Joy running after us.
"There is going to be a celebratory tournament at Nugget Bridge. I wanted to ask if you could come."
"I've got no problem with it. But didn't the bridge get blown up?"
"We had it fixed overnight."
"Well that's nice. Everyone else on board?"
"Yea," everyone said.
"Okay, let me get you four registered…"
She ran back into the center. After five minutes, she came back out.
"You're all set. We hope to see you again!"
"What is up with Nurse Joys and hoping we injure our Pokémon?" I asked to myself.
We went to the bridge where about 60 trainers were waiting.
"How did so many trainers catch Pokémon between yesterday and now?"
"Well, I think some are from Pewter too. See, there's that shorts guy."
Sure enough, as Leaf pointed out, there was Ben.
"Ladies and Gentlemen. We would like to thank you all for coming to the first Pokémon tournament open to the public in over 10 years! I am Charles Goodshow, former president of the Pokémon League. It has been far too long since a tournament, so we expect you all to do your best!"
The crowd cheered as Mr. Goodshow started to explain the rules.
"Now, every battle will be three on three due to how recently people were allowed to train again."
I looked over at Blue. As far as I know, his only Pokemon are Squirtle and Spearow.
"Every battle will take place on this bridge. It has been modified to serve as a temporary battlefield so do not be afraid to use moves like Dig or Earthquake. One last thing. I would like to thank the people who made this all possible. Please give a hand for Poké Underground!"
After getting over the shock we made our way to the stage. Michael still had stage fright, but it was better than it once was.
"These people have saved both Pewter City and Our own Cerulean City and are the reason we can train Pokémon! Let's give them one more round of applause!"
There was a roar from the crowd. It was certainly going to be a fun day.
"Now, please direct your attention to the TV screen, as it will show you your matchup!"
I looked at the huge TV screen they got from who-knows-where. Everyone except for Leaf was facing people we never heard of before, as Leaf went against Ben.
"Now, the first round matchup is… Blue vs. Gillian! Would the two of you please report to the battlefield."
Blue ran up to his spot while a girl wearing a green dress and white sunhat went to the other end. I would never say this to his face, but I am actually rooting for Blue.
The referee said "This is a three on three battle between Gillian of Cerulean City and Blue of Pallet Town. Substitutions are allowed. The battle is over when all Pokémon on one side are unable to battle. Trainers, please send out your Pokémon."
"Go, Spearow!"
"I need you, Mareep!"
"Go, Spearow!"
"Battle, begin!"
"Mareep, use Electro Ball!"
Mareep readied an attack.
"Spearow, Fury Attack!"
Spearow flew up before the attack was ready and did some damage to Mareep.
"Unleash it!"
Mareep unloaded the Electro Ball, doing a lot of damage to Spearow. They were both hurt, but Spearow was worse off.
"Aerial Ace!"
"Electro Ball, one more time!"
Both attacks collided, but while it damaged Spearow, Mareep was safe because it wasn't using it's body to stop the blow. The collision produced smoke on the battlefield, and when it lifted, Spearow was unconscious.
"Spearow is unable to continue. Blue corner, please send out your next Pokémon." Oh the irony.
"Go, Squirtle!"
Blue's Squirtle went onto the field.
"Use Water Gun!"
Squirtle shot out water at Mareep, but it didn't counter. The hit knocked Mareep out.
"Mareep is unable to continue. Red corner, please send out your next Pokemon."
"Go, Mareep."
I mentally face-palmed. Although it is okay to have two Pokemon of the same type, I do not think it's okay to have two of the same exact species, unless you're a type specialist, since Kanto has no native Dark-types, the only Steel-types are the Magnezone line, the only Ghost-types are the Gengar line, and the only Dragon-types (because Charizard and Gyarados are somehow not dragons) are the Dragonite line.
"Squirtle, Water Gun!"
"Use Thundershock right when it gets to you!"
The jet of water went to Mareep, but it electrocuted the water, shocking Squirtle.
"Blue needs to have more Pokémon variety. So far, his entire team is weak to electric," I said to Leaf and Michael.
"I dunno." Leaf said. "He said he captured another Pokemon and was saving it for the right time."
"We'll see."
"Now, Mareep, Electro Ball!"
Since Squirtle are generally slow, the attack did more damage than normal.
"Come on Squirtle, you can take it! Show them how strong you are!"
Then, Squirtle started glowing. He was evolving! He generally kept a similar shape, but was taller, had longer ears (or got ears, I really don't know where they are on a regular Squirtle), and his tail became thicker.
"Great job Wartortle, you evolved!"
"Wartortle," he said proudly.
"Show them the strength of your Bite!"
Wartortle ran in and bit down on Mareep, knocking it out.
"Mareep is unable to continue. Red corner, send out your final Pokemon."
"Okay. Go, Flaffy!"
I really wanted to strangle her. She is an idiot! You might as well have people with three Magikarps or Metapods. Oh, and why not Rattatas for good measure.
"Wartortle, Bite!"
Wartortle performed the attack successfully, making Flaffy flinch.
"And, Tackle!"
Wartortle landed the hit, knocking out Flaffy.
"Flaffy is unable to continue. Wartortle is the winner, which means the victory goes to Blue."
"Yea!" he said as he recalled Wartortle.
"The next match between Joey and Ethan will be in 15 minutes."
I walked away, thinking that there was no purpose to be there, but I remember the dream I had with Arceus. He said something about finding others like me and Ethan is one of them. Might as well talk to him after the battle.
Ethan swept Joey with only his Cyndaquil, so I knew he would be staying longer. I walked up to him. Ethan also looked a LOT like Gold. The main difference was that he was taller, he didn't wear exercise shorts, and his jacket (why would he wear one anyway?) had more red. He also had one of his Pokemon follow him around everywhere.
"Hey, you look familiar… ARE YOU RED!?"
"Yep."
"WOW! It's an honor to meet you sir."
"No need to be all formal. I actually wanted wanted to talk with you." I looked around. "In privacy."
"Sure! I would love to!"
We went into my room in the Pokemon center, with his Cyndaquil right behind him.
"So, do you know who Gold is?"
"Yea, wasn't he like the old leader of Poké Underground before you?"
"Glad to see we're so famous, and yes. Do you know about the other Red too? The one Team Rocket says is a horrible criminal?"
"Yea. You look a lot like him."
"Well, that's kinda what I wanted to talk about. Have you ever wondered why I look so much like Red?"
"Well, yea, actually. Why is that?"
"The same reason you look like Gold."
"What?"
"Let me explain. This will sound far-fetched, so bear with me. Arceus-"
"You mean like, the Pokémon that created everything?"
"Yea, him. He appeared to me in a dream. He said that I am a remake of Red; supposed to be better then him. Very similar, but better."
"And what does this have to do with me?"
"You are like me. I believe you're a remake of Gold."
"No, that can't happen. That's impossible."
"Omni, can you vouch for me?"
"Sure," she said.
"Go, Omni!"
Omni came out of her Pokéball. Ethan was shocked, as was Cyndaquil.
"I'm Omni, the Mew. Nice to meet you!"
"You...You have Mew?"
"Yep."
"He wanted me to confirm that you are a remake. If it makes it sound better, you're basically a gift from Arceus himself."
"Wow… If a legendary Mew says it then it must be true."
"Yea, sorry to break it to you so harshly. Oh, and on a side note, don't listen to that logic from here on out. Mew once said that clouds are pure cotton candy."
"Just... wow."
"Anyways, where are you from?"
"I'm from New Bark town, in the Johto region. My parents took a vacation to Pewter, but the with the whole affair there, they took off, forgetting me."
"I'm sorry to hear that."
"Don't be. If they forgot me in another region, do you think they care about me at home? Plus, I got a Pokémon now. Right Cyndaquil?"
"Cynda Cyndaquil."
"It is one of the best things that could ever happen to me."
"By the way, where did you get your starter?"
"Oh, I saw some guy name Professor Elm beating him, so I broke into his lab at night and brought Cyndaquil out. At first she was scared, but it didn't take long for her to open up to me. Of course, Pokéballs aren't legalized there unless you're a grunt. She snuck on to the plane over to Pewter, and when I heard that you can be a trainer, I officially caught her."
"Why do you keep her out of her ball?"
"I think it makes my Pokemon more friendly."
"Well that's nice. Now, one more offer, then we should head back to the tournament. Would you like to join Poké Underground?"
His eyes lit up in excitement.
"YES YES YES!"
"Alright. You won't be travelling with me though. You'll be with Silver."
"Who's he?"
"I'll introduce you to him at the tournament."
I didn't know it at the time, but a man at original Red's age with a charm around his neck heard that whole conversation.
"Giovanni would love to know this…"
We walked back out. As I was in hearing range of the loud speakers, I heard a yell:
"Will Red please report to the battlefield? This is your last warning. If you don't appear in one minute you will be disqualified from the tournament."
"Gotta go!" I yelled out to Gold.
"Go, Rapidash!" I yelled as I sent out Omni's Pokéball.
Omni came out disguised as a Rapidash.
"We gotta make it to the tournament in fifty seconds. Can you do it?"
Omni just gave a look that said, "Of course."
I hopped on and she took off. It took three seconds before I got there. I recalled Omni and faced the confused spectators. Once the ref got over his shock, he said: "Well, okay then. Now that the red corner is here, we may start the battle."
He went on explaining the usual rules. Since I already knew them, I looked at my opponent. He was pretty young and wearing a scout uniform, so he was likely a camper.
"The battle between Rebel Red and Camper Drew will now commence! Trainers, release your Pokémon!"
So that's my trainer class. I like it.
"Go, Storm!"
"Rattata!"
There is a difference between a Rocket Rattata and a Rattata trained for real. The one I was facing looked like a good match.
"Begin!"
"Storm, Quick Attack!"
"You use Quick Attack too!"
They rushed at each other. Storm had the advantage since he was airborne, so he did more damage.
"Super Fang!"
That could do some damage.
"Take to the skies, then Gust!"
Storm avoided the attack and charged up the Gust, which landed a solid hit.
"I can't take down Pidgeotto without someone who can fly or a ranged attack… got it! Rattata, return!"
Drew took his Rattata back.
"Go, Ekans!"
A equally trained Ekans went on the field.
"Red corner may strike first."
"Use Wing Attack!"
"Stop it with Poison Sting!"
Storm was assaulted by poisonous spikes. It didn't poison him, however, so that was good.
"Keep it up!"
He closed the distance and hit Ekans, who was sent flying across the field.
"Don't just take it! Poison Sting again!"
Ekans fired another round at Storm, who wasn't able to dodge.
"Gust, one more time!"
As I called it, I saw a purple energy appearing around Storm. I remembered that my Pokédex could check his health, moves, and conditions.
"This Pokémon is poisoned. In battle, it will lose some hp at the end of every turn."
Great. That's probably what he was planning, given how Poison Sting isn't that strong of a move.
"Now, Ekans, Acid!"
"Dodge, then Wing Attack!"
This time, Storm did avoid the attack and hit Ekans. He fell over unconscious. However, the poison also finished off Storm.
"Both Pokémon are unable to continue. Will both sides send out their next Pokemoné"
We both said at the same time "Go…"
Flinky: There it is. Now, I won't be able to write for the next three days because I will be camping, so I will start up again as soon as I get back.
Red: Aww... And you even left it at a cliffhanger.
Flinky: Honestly, why do you care? There has to be a very certain reason for me to have the main character be eliminated in the first round of a tournament filled with new trainers.
Red: That may be so, but you have me use... interesting battle methods.
