Chapter Fifteen

"I think you and I are destined to do this forever..."

/

Charlotte guessed that the moment her head had hit the luxuriously warm leather seat of the car, she'd knocked out. Either that, or they'd knocked her out.

Whatever the answer, it didn't matter now. Not when that fierce voice rang through the darkness that way.

"Finally. Decided to, ah, come back to us, Princess?" The Joker's voice curled softly, vibrating lowly in his chest. Charlotte's body froze, waiting for a slice or blow...even a shove. But nothing came, no matter how threatening he sounded.

And it turned out that they weren't really in the darkness either. Charlotte's eyelids wrenched open painfully, blinding white light invading her senses. Her cheek was cold, and she realized that she was lying on steel. Charlotte lifted her sticky face hesitantly, surprised that her whole body wasn't bound. To her surprise, she was in one of the Joker's meeting rooms. Just like the other warehouse, this room was barren and lit with dull white fluorescent lighting. There was a decent sized window to her right, but Charlotte didn't really have time to the study the place as the Joker stared daggers at her from across the steel table. Charlotte hated to look at his face, but she did it anyways. It wasn't like his appearance scared her anymore, but his emotions were so scattered and strong that she never knew what she'd find when she looked into his eyes. It was his mannerisms and spontaneous violent tendencies that tended to get the best of her. The Joker looked murderous, and almost...disappointed.

"Rise and shine..."He spat sarcastically, bringing his chair to rest on all fours roughly. The loud slam made Charlotte flinch. She couldn't exactly look at him anymore.

The Joker chuckled darkly, toying with his bottom lip until it bled. "And to think, I was beginning to we finally had an...understanding."

Charlotte didn't dare move a muscle as she stared down at the steel table. She didn't know what to say. What did one say when they were spending their last moments of life explaining themselves to Gotham's most dangerous Villain?

"I...I..."

The Joker wanted nothing more but to slam her against the table as she stuttered.

"I..I'm sorry...It won't happen again..."

Charlotte shivered out what she could. It hurt her throat to even take in small puffs of air. The room was eerily silent, as if the Joker wasn't even across from her. The Joker stared, eyes suddenly becoming wide as he let out the loudest, booming cackle she'd ever hurt. The Joker simply kept laughing, doubling over in his seat at the table until she couldn't even see his face. His shoulders shook violently, green vest becoming tight over his shoulders as he inhaled deeply, only to laugh some more.

"Again? AGAIN!?" The Joker laughed, nearly bawling with laughter as he clutched at his heart. A few tears streaked his black makeup, running it into the white and red on his cheeks and lips even more. "Damn. Right. It will ne-ver happen again. Ever." The Joker threatened, becoming serious extremely quickly. His dark eyes burned holes into Charlotte. After a few more small laughs, the Joker re-adjusted himself. "You know, Char, I was wrong about you. I figured you were a little weak, a little pathetic, but not to this extent. This... This is bad, Doll. Ya know, I hate to say it now, but I trusted you!" The Joker said, sounding almost sincere as his hand stayed resting above his heart. "If I'd known you'd be this dumb so far in the game, I would've followed my gut feeling and killed ya that day in the alley!" The Joker began to laugh again, so far in his hysteria he nearly sounded demonic.

"Thought you were smart, Char! Thought you could handle it! But now what? One little hold up with the police and you go scampering away like a little puppy dog? What didja think, huh? That things would just go back to normal? That mooommy and daaaddy would just welcome you back, that Gotham would see to it that you were taken care of -"

"No! No, and I came back, didn't I!?" Charlotte suddenly exploded. "I realized that what I did was stupid, that it was pointless! I FUCKING CAME BACK!" Charlotte screamed, unable to take it anymore. Something snapped in her brain. It almost hurt a little, but it felt good to have no filter. The next thing she knew, thick tears were streaming down her face and she was standing over Joker from her side of the table. Her fists came crashing down against the metal, over and over again until she lost count. Charlotte pulled at her hair roots as she began to scream. To anyone from the outside, it would sound like she was finally getting her punishment. In reality, the Joker sat back and took in her reaction, oddly intrigued by her reaction. He could tell that they were nearly at the point where there would be nothing left of Charlotte. At the moment, she was closer to emptiness physically rather than mentally...

But he would fix that.

"DON'T YOU THINK I KNOW THAT THIS IS ALL I HAVE LEFT?! DON'T YOU THINK I KNOW THAT THERE'S NO GOING BACK?" Charlotte screamed, voice nearly shot to hell. The sobs that wracked her body made it hard to breathe, but she couldn't stop now. It was too late. "YOU PSYCHOTIC, MASOCHISTIC ASSHOLE. I HATE YOU PIECE OF FUCKING SHIT! WHY CAN'T YOU JUST DIE? WHY WON'T YOU DIE? BETTER YET, JUST KILL ME! THAT'S ALL YOU'RE GOOD FOR, YOU MONSTER!"

The screaming was so loud the Joker's ears were ringing, but he stayed frozen in his seat, watching Charlotte's layers peel away. He'd never seen her cry before, not like this. Her fiery blue eyes were wild as she cursed him, calling him every name in the book.

She was special. He hated it, he hated her for it, but the Joker couldn't bring himself to do anything besides to take it in. He sort of loved it, actually. Charlotte's hair was wild and free, and there she was in all of her glory. Wild, needy, angry, and somehow...extremely delicate. For a moment the Joker was scared that if she screamed any louder that she'd break into a thousand pieces, like shattered glass.

Was she finally ruined now?

The screaming finally stopped, and Charlotte was shaking so badly her thighs were practically vibrating against the table. The Joker watched as she caught her breath, not missing the surprised look at herself, at what she'd done. Charlotte held her face between her palms, her fingers coming up again to tangle into her roots as she heaved heavy breaths, the sound louder as the breaths escaped through the gaps in her fingers. The Joker smiled smugly, watching her for a little more before quietly moving out of his seat. The Joker came to her side of the table silently, standing closely to her. Her heavy breaths continued.

"Look at me," The Joker said calmly as the heavy buzz in his navel increased. Charlotte didn't budge. The Joker grabbed her wrists on his second try, holding them secure. Charlotte's hands released her wet, flushed face as he squeezed them tightly. Still, she kept her eyes tightly shut.

"A second try is all you get. I said, Look. At. Me." The Joker said, louder this time. While his voice had risen, Charlotte didn't know that a threat could be made gently and possess such anger. He shook her slightly, but it did nothing. With a growl, the Joker used Charlotte's wrists to pull and slam her against the wall. Charlotte's red eyes popped open unexpectedly as her head hit the wall. Blue eyes stared widely at the Joker, and the view that came into them was astounding. The Joker's eyes burned directly into hers, unwavering. Their bodies pressed together painfully, and Charlotte couldn't focus. It felt like she was spinning. Because of this, she said the first thing that came to mind.

"I thought you didn't give second chances," Charlotte breathed out, the warm air from her mouth never leaving the small space between their faces. In such a tight position, they were forced to share their breaths, and were breathing in unison now. The Joker's eyes blazed with fury, the whites of his eyes gleaming dangerously.

Charlotte didn't know exactly how or why it happened, but she did know that the Joker's lips were now moving roughly against hers, and that she was falling - no, drowning - even deeper into their kiss. The Joker gripped her ferociously, violently slamming her into the wall once more and securing her there as he felt her fingers tangle painfully into his hair. He was the first to pull away, but not for long.

"You are so much trouble." The Joker growled against her lips, moving in to kiss her roughly again.

Awww ain't that cute? Haha well it's morbid but I'm sure we've all been waiting for some J/C action, so there we have it! Now I know that a lot of stories end up having Joker and the OC in a cheesy pseudo relationship where they become boyfriend and girlfriend, but to be honest I could never picture the Joker being okay with being someone's boyfriend. He's not exactly the type to become someone's property, but in this story he is extremely possessive of Charlotte because he does view her as his property. He is the Alpha male in all cases, and while he does see Charlotte as being 'his' that doesn't mean she's his girlfriend. But, that also doesn't mean he doesn't care about her, otherwise he wouldn't react the way he does to her, and he would've killed her off. That's all I can really say about their relationship without spoiling! The Joker would never commit himself to another human being that way because of his grand scheming. That is his child and his everything, that is what completes him, and at this point in the story he's not going to give that up for anyone. And, at this point in the story, the only person who he thinks is on his level is the Batman because he completes him (like in TDK). I think that trying to change that completely would go against what the Joker stands for (and yes I love Joker and Harley, but she was always his property more than a lover). Because the Joker is not a traditional character, I view him as being able to care for people but not realize it, because he is still a sociopath and definitely lacks empathy, but we'll bend the rules a little. At least for MY Joker. BUT, that doesn't mean that he will/won't fall in love with Charlotte, but if he does develop feelings (which he will), they won't be recognized by him because they will be extremely foreign. In this story, the Joker clings to darker things like pain for example, because it gives him a rush and makes him feel. As for Charlotte, she's more than meets the eye. But that's enough from me! Let me know if you enjoyed this chapter and this rant. Once again, thanks a million for your kindhearted reviews, and for sticking with this story. Please continue to read and review, you're the best! Love to all! X
