A/N: So this is another short chapter, I am sorry about that it's just I get to points where I think I should separate the chapters, therefore it stops short

Important: But anyway this chapter is quite sad... there's probably a better word for it but sad really sums it up... and I do realise that some of you may have had realtives or even been in situations like Cris' and I really hope I don't offend anyone by the way I portray the characters through this situation, so I hope that no one is offended or hurt by this chapter, because honestly that would break my heart

Anyone who wants to talk to me about my characters, there situations or even if you had a situation like this and you just want to talk to someone, please either review on the story, and I'll get back to you or pm me so that we could talk or something (this would only work if you had an ff account, sorry anyone who doesn't)

I don't want anyone to hate me for my story so sorry in advance :)

Chapter 27: Here's some advice: Stay alive

After a few more questions had been directed to her, by Magnus, about herself and important events that happened, he asked: "Cris, what is the last thing you can remember?"

Now this was the first question Cris had to think hard about, she didn't really know what the right answer was, so she went with what she thought to be correct; the last thing she could remember.

"Um I was in school, this guy dragged me into one of the classrooms, a gun help to my head, and he locked the door then everything went black," She said trying to keep a monotone voice. A strange emotion appeared, instantly, to cross Magnus' face but it went as soon as it came and he said nothing but, "Okay,"

Magnus seemed to compose himself then said "Okay, that's it for the questions, I'll be back in a minute with the results of earlier tests we ran," He sighed then left the room, leaving Cris in a confused state.

"What's up with him?" She asked Bertholdt, who looked her straight in the eye before saying, "I'm not particularly sure," Cris was pretty sure he was lying but she didn't say anything more on the matter.

"Anyway back to the previous conversation, am I your only patient during your work experience?" He gave a small smile at this and answered with a smirk, "My one and only,"

She laughed at this and gave him a sweet smile saying, "Oh, how so?" She said this so innocently, yet with a little bit of flirtatiousness, that it made him smile wider and give a small laugh. His smile was so infectious that she couldn't help but return it instantly.

"Well, I was doing a course and for the course I had to treat a patient, so here I am," He said in a low voice looking straight into her eyes. She smiled looking into his green eyes that were dulled by the slight brown tint in the centre.

"So, where are you taking this course, I've never seen you at school before?" Cris said rather innocently. He shook her head at her tone but smiled and replied, "Oh, I moved here to do the course, my family wouldn't have been able to afford my going to the academy or even to get a house nearby,"

Cris gave a fake frown and responded with a slight pout, "Now you're making me feel bad," He, surprisingly to Cris, blushed a bit and shook his head rather violently, saying "No, no, I don't mean… no," She smiled at how flustered he had become, she stopped his rambling by saying "It's fine, calm down,"

He looked at the bed as if trying to hide his expression but she could still see the small smile spread across his lips. Then Magnus flounced back into the room with a folder in his hand. He smiled widely but something inside of Cris thought the smile was forced.

He passed the folder to Bertholdt who flipped through it, the smile immediately disappearing from his face. Now she knew the folder contained her x-rays and she could only hope that they weren't too bad but the look on their faces told her differently.

"What is it?" Cris said concern and worry filling her voice. At that they both looked at her, sadness and pity sparkled in their eyes. Magnus sat down on the edge of her bed, he sighed looking at the ground before retuning his gaze to Cris.

"Look, Crisiant," Magnus started sounding slightly regretful. Crap she thought, full name!

"You've been insanely lucky not to be in a prolonged coma or even not to have died but…" he continued letting his sentence hang in mid-air before picking it up by saying, "One of your vertebrae looks to be fractured, this could cause temporary or permanent paralysis of your waist down"

Cris was shocked; her mind ran at speeds that could not compare to anything on Earth. Cris couldn't say anything; she didn't know how to react. But before she could decide what range of emotions she was feeling Bertholdt continued form what Magnus was saying, "Which is why, you'll be going in for emergency surgery soon, to see if it can be glued to screwed back together but the surgery is very risky and there could be a chance that you'll still be half paralysed even if the surgery is a success,"

A wave of ice-cold, suddenly, ran through her, freezing her in place. She could hear voices around her but they were muffled as if she was submerged in water. She stared off into space, thinking. Just thinking. Thinking of what would happen if she did become paralysed, thinking about all the things she couldn't do, thinking about all the things she would miss.

Snapping her out of her trance, Magnus placed a hand on her shoulder. A shot of pain ran through her at this, that even the morphine couldn't erase, but she didn't flinch as the pain brought her back. She could now recognise them calling her name in worry and she turned her head slightly to be faced with Magnus who was only a few inches away from her. She stared into his eyes, only to see her own reflected. Her piercing gaze looked crazed with worry and sadness.

She quickly turned away not wanting to see how she looked anymore as Cris felt pricks at the back of her eyes and before she could stop it she felt hot tears slide down her cheeks. She hated crying, especially in front of people, it made her feel weak and defenceless and she hated it!

Because of this she tried to cover up her face with her arms but Magnus, unfortunately, successfully managed to pry her arms from covering her face. She felt vulnerable, as the tears slid down her face pooling on the blanket. Magnus then made some shushing sound, trying to calm her down as he wiped the tears away from her reddened cheeks with his thumbs.

Keeping his hands on her cheeks, he lifted her face lightly so that she was once again looking straight into his eyes. Focusing on his yellow-green iris' instead of her blood-shot crazed reflection, he held on to her face with enough force that it would've hurt if she wasn't feeling slightly numb everywhere.

"Look, Cris, I'm not going to lie to you but we will try everything we can to help you but it's totally your choice if you want the surgery and we don't want to force you into something you don't want to do, your mum said it's totally up to you, honey," Magnus said with so much determination it was practically oozing out of him.

Cris couldn't help but give a small smile at the mention of her mother, it felt like it had been ages since she last saw her and she also couldn't help the slight pierce in her heart at the thought of how much she missed her.

Then she only had one thought running through her brain as Bertholdt said "Look you don't need to decide right now but…" Before he could finish the sentence Cris interrupted, "I want to have the surgery!"
