Chapter 32: Cruelty does not make a person dishonest, the same way bravery does not make a person kind

After about 10 minutes of going through work that Cris didn't really need to catch up on because she knew it all already, but nevertheless, apparently, she needed to do all the worksheets and homework that her classmates had already done. When they were done Cris had a whole shoulder bag full of paper to carry back and she had to hold a few papers as they wouldn't fit in the full bag.

Ugh, this is going to take all week, she thought begrudgingly as she hugged Charlotte goodbye and promised that she'd come visit, with her mum, her after school hours. Just as she stepped out the office Charlotte called, "Oh, sorry you haven't seen Henry, he's busy in the tech room, creating something or other," Cris laughed, Henry, Charlotte's husband, was always busy fixing old things or inventing new ones, so this was hardly a surprise.

"It's alright, I'll see you both tonight," Cris called as she shut the door and sighed, Mum's been waiting forever, better get back soon, she thought with a bit of guilt as she made her way down the halls.

She was trying to walk quickly so that she could get away before form ended, only if she had been so lucky. The bell echoed throughout the corridors and students rushed out of their form rooms. Even though they had a lesson to go to most were hanging around the sides of the corridors.

Strangely the crowd of people seemed to part for her which she didn't expect because, even though it used to happen, no one knew her as she was. She just kept on walking, keeping her head down so that, hopefully, no one would bother her.

Once again she was wrong, someone came from behind her and swept her crutches away, so that, reflexively, she stood on her foot which was closest to the floor; it being her broken leg.

She cried out in pain as she tumbled to the floor. She hit the ground flat on her face as she couldn't use her arms as they were attached to the crutches. The papers she was holding now scattered the floor but, luckily, most of the papers, which were in her bag, hadn't fallen out.

She groaned and her head started pulsing and she felt something trickle from her forehead. Cris pushed herself up and turned so she could see the person, who was definitely going to get killed or at least hurt. Trying to focus on seeing properly, as her vision went a bit blurry, she saw Sebastian Morgenstern hovering over her.

"Look at what we have here?" He snarled looking down at her with a malicious smirk plastered on his face. "Little Miss Bitch," He continued as she snarled at him. Then to her surprise, he sat down, on her stomach and grabbed her arms. "I think, that you should learn your lesson, if you're going to stay at this school"

He now held both her wrists with one hand and she tried to kick him with her good leg but it was no use. She was completely pinned down and she had no hope of pushing him of as he was obviously stronger than her. He twirled a piece of her hair in between the fingers of his free hands which made her try not to gag.

"Get off me, you pervert!" She shouted at him while giving him her best glare, which made him flinch a little. She tried to wiggle free but he just dug his knee into her side which made her gasp. "But then I like the idea of you in our uniform, very sexy," He said trying to sound seductive. This made her gag as she still struggled to get any space.

He then moved his free hand from her hair to her face, his index finger slid down her cheek and onto her jaw where it slid to her lips. "You know, if you weren't so damn annoying, you would be in with one hell of a chance," He said as his finger grazed over her lips.

She gasped at how sicking he was being; her eyes wide with something like fear or determination. He smirked and was leaning in to do… something that she really didn't want, when he was thrown off her.

She gasped and looked up to see not only a crowd around her which had most of her friends among the throng but Jamie, who had pulled Sebastian off her. She pulled herself up into a sitting position staring at Jamie, in a confused manner. Why would Jamie do that? He had nothing to gain, why would he do that to his friend? Cris was grateful but she couldn't understand why he helped her instead of his friend.

The last time I saw him was when I was being dragged away by that guy, I had gotten sent out because of him, why would he care? Does he even know it's me, could he just think I'm some random newbie?

Then someone grabbed her from behind, to which she gave a short scream and flinched away. Breathing heavily, she turned around to see Jem bending down to her, hurt clear in his eyes. "It's alright, it's alright," He soothed as he reached out for her again and this time she let him pull her up. She turned and saw Jamie had Sebastian pinned against the lockers, holding him up by the collar of his shirt.

"Jamie, leave it!" Jem called to Jamie who had his fist inches away from Sebastian's face. Someone coughed then, behind her and she turned to see Simon holding the papers she had dropped. "Here," Simon said sheepishly as he passed her the papers. She smiled at his tone and thanked him, this made him smile back but he quickly bowed his head as if he was embarrassed.

Jem put a hand on her back and she jumped in surprise as she turned to him. He instantly retracted his hand and bowed his head to hide the blush that stained his cheeks. She gave a small smile and she said, "It's fine, I was just surprised but I hope you aren't a pervert like him," Gesturing to Sebastian as he started to stutter, "N-no,"

She laughed at his sweetness and simply said "Good," She then turned away from Jem and walked towards Jamie who had just let Sebastian go. "Hey, Jamie is it?" She asked stopping next to Jamie, who was looking down at her, in shock. He just nodded, his hair bouncing as he did so. She smiled sweetly and said "Thank you for that," Then she did something that he wasn't expecting, she leant up a planted a small kiss on his cheek.

That was so unlike Jamie, she thought, he has something to say about everything and he was silent, no snarky remark, nothing, huh.

She then walked down the corridor towards Jem, who smiled but it almost seemed sad. "Thank you as well" She said smiling as she reached up and also gave him a small peck on the cheek. She then carried on walking down the rest of the corridor which was pretty empty due to the fact it was 5 minutes into their first class. She glanced back to see most of them still standing there looking at her.

A blush was now clearly printed on both Jamie's and Jem's faces. Strange, she thought again as she smiled and winked at them then walked to her mum's car.
