A/N: In case anyone doesn't understand, this is starting form the start of the last chapter, it's basically Simon's POV on Cris returning with different eyes and hair...

Okay so the end of this chapter may seem pretty rushed but that was only because I couldn't really extended this chapter anymore because it soooo long (or me anyway)... and for some reason I just didn't want top split it into two chapters... so sorry *bows head in shame* :)

So nevertheless enjoy :D

Chapter 33: Happiness is like glass; it can shatter with one blow

Simon's POV:

Simon strolled through the school gates a lot earlier than normal. That was probably because he hadn't gotten much sleep through the past few days as they weren't able to see Cris and they also weren't allowed to know why, so, naturally, Simon's mind wondered through every single thing that could be happening to her right now; all of them bad.

He swept a hand through his hair and tugged on it, trying to get the current vision out of his mind; the one where she forgets everything and everyone he previously knew. He prayed that she was alright but he couldn't know that. He wanted so badly for things to go back to normal but that wouldn't happen. But things were pretty normal at the moment, if you excluded Cris, that is.

He sighed stepping into the gazebo. Izzy, Maia and Katniss were already there speaking in hushed tones. "Hey," Simon greeted them and they all jumped in surprise at his voice and turned to him. "Hey," They said simultaneously. This was kind of weird as they were never quiet and they were acting like one person which was freaking Simon out.

Before Simon could question their behaviour, Izzy says bluntly, "You look like shit, Simon," Simon sighed and replied sarcastically, "Well, thank you, it's from my new range," At that Katniss, Maia and Izzy looked at each other, sharing some kind of thought, which Simon had no clue what it could be.

"Seriously, Simon" Tris said walking in with Hazel by her side. This didn't surprise Simon at all, Tris often snuck up to them, although Simon never knew how she did it. "You've been coming to school earlier than normal," Hazel stated carrying on from Tris.

"And you always have bags under your eyes," Katniss continued. Are they having secret meetings about me or something, this is creepy, they're all thinking the same thing! Simon thought and he said slowly sitting down on one of the benches, "Yeah, well I haven't been sleeping much,"

All the girls stared at him, pity clear in their eyes. Tris and Hazel had now moved to stand behind Katniss, Maia and Izzy and Simon felt as if he was being ganged up on. "Is it because of Cris?" Tris asks and Simon sighed, ugh, why are they so blunt?

Katniss looked up at the two behind her and whispers something, that he didn't quite catch, but it was pretty easy to guess as Tris' and Hazel's look showed so much pity, Simon wondered if it might literally come pouring out of them.

"Simon, not knowing isn't necessarily a bad thing," Maia said softly as Simon looked down at his shoes and muttered "'necessarily'," At that Clary and Tessa walk in, Tessa walks over to the group of girls and Clary places a hand on Simon shoulder sympathetically, then follows suit.

Before Simon could say anything else he spots a black haired girl walk in the gates, with a pair of crutches and a red cast covering one of her legs. Simon just stares at the girl as she makes her way over to the entrance; although they were quite far from each other, Simon felt his heart beat increase rapidly. There was something about the girl: like he had known her forever, like he knew everything about her and she knew everything about him. As his eyes widened at the girl, who was wearing a plain black top with a red-tartan skirt that was extremely familiar.

The girl came closer to where they were and all Simon could do was stare. She was beautiful there was no doubting that but there was something else about her: she seemed so familiar and he felt as if the hole in his heart had been filled. You don't know the girl, she could be an axe-murderer or something! Simon thought, his brain going to the extremes. But I do know her!

Simon was so confused, she looked so similar yet so different at the same time. He looked towards Izzy, then back at the girl. Huh, he thought as he couldn't quite figure it out.

"Annie!" Finnick shouts which echoes through the field. The girl immediately turned towards Finnick; panic and fear written all of her face. When she looks at him, though, her face once again becomes devoid of all emotions and she turns back. Why would 'Annie' make her panic, is that her name?

She continues walking for a few seconds and then Simon watches as Jamie crashes into her and sends her flying to the ground. Simon doesn't even think about what he's doing but he gasps then he's on his feet within seconds and he's running to the girl's side. Why am I doing this?

But before he can help her up, or something actually helpful, Simon stops instantly and stares down at her. She looks like Cris! He thinks, his pulse racing so that he could literally feel the blood pumping to each crevice of his body. Her hair was black and her eyes were a dark brown but apart from that she was the spitting image of Cris.

Then it all comes to him.

That was the exact skirt Izzy gave her for Cris' birthday, in the hopes that Cris would 'show off her assets', in Izzy's words. That was the exact place Cris also broke her leg. And that smell; the slight scent of vanilla that always surrounded Cris, now hung in the air.

Simon's heart skips a beat. That's not possible, Cris is in a coma, Cris is in the hospital right now! His brain screamed as he found that all he could do was stare at the girl; mouth hanging open and eyes wide.

He doesn't even register the yell coming from beside and Jem pulling Jamie off of her. Her face is, once again, devoid of all emotion but Simon couldn't help but feel the fact that she seems almost scared. Her eyes seemed to be hiding something, the eyes were the window to the soul, but something seemed to be covering hers up, like it was concealed under a blanket.

She managed to pull herself up into a sitting position and all Simon could do was watch her. All the words he would've (should've) said died in his throat as his mind buzzed; question hurling themselves round his skull causing Simon to feel a little dazed.

Simon didn't know what to think: was this person really Cris? Why does Cris have black hair and dark brown eyes? Is she wearing contacts? Why would she do that? Why was she released from hospital? Why weren't we told?

These sort of questions flooded Simon's brain but that wasn't the only reason he felt overwhelmed. It was also the many emotions that washed over him. He didn't know how to think, how to feel. Was he angry that she didn't tell them, hurt that she didn't think of them, happy that she was alive and well, confused on whether this was really her?

Before Simon could think anything more she was lifted into a standing position by Jace and Will, who, when she turned around to thank them, stood just as stationary as they were all doing. Then as soon as she came she was gone walking down the path to the main building.

Simon just stared at her; she looked a lot like Cris but then she also looked like Izzy. So much that Simon was confused. The whispers that rose around Simon mostly agreed with what Simon was thinking, but he couldn't help thinking there was something else about her: some dark pain that he'd never seen around Cris.

Cris was never normally unhappy; angry and very few times upset but never unhappy. He knew Cris tried so hard to hide the emotions that undoubtedly would cause her pain. But what if this person wasn't Cris; what if she was just a stranger that happened to look like the love child of Cris and Izzy?

Simon shivered slightly at that thought. Block it from brain, BLOCK IT FROM BRAIN!

Fortunately, the thought didn't get very far as he heard someone, he wasn't exactly sure who it was and to be honest he didn't really care, shout, "But what about the blood?"

Simon immediately snapped his head up towards the word 'blood', for some reason that was unknown to Simon; the word triggered something in him. He wasn't all that sure that it was the part of his brain that should go, blood, eww, get away or the slightly similar voice that should've gone: Oh my god, someone's bleeding, get help!

He watched the girl shrug as if the cut on her arm was simply a small scratch. Then he heard her name and it was as if she was truly standing there, as if nothing over the past month had happened. But of course it had and the voice that said her sweet name was so filled with emotions that the owner tried so hard to hide.

"Cris!" Will called out to the girl but she didn't turn. Simon thought he saw her tense a little but, nevertheless, she still didn't turn at the name that brought Simon pain and happiness all at the same time.

Simon's thoughts clouded his brain as the rest of the world dispersed into nothingness. He wished so badly to be at her side that because he missed her. They hadn't been allowed in her hospital room for three weeks and with each passing second Simon got more and more worried.

Magnus wouldn't say a word on why she wasn't allowed out or why they weren't allowed in, which only made them worry. Even Clary and Tessa were worried but apparently not worried enough to actually try and visit Cris. They were still angry for what was said about Cris although Simon knew what was written wasn't anywhere near the truth in the slightest. Simon tried to talk to Clary but she had been really distant from him in the past few months and Simon felt extremely bad for not being there for her because, even though he didn't know what was bothering her, he would be there for her; comforting her because that's what friends do.

Simon felt a small prickle of guilt spike him as he realised he had been too preoccupied with his own issues to notice Clary's. Ugh, I'm such a horrible person! He thought as his posture sagged a bit.

Before he knew it the girl toppled to the floor again. Simon felt the overwhelming need to run over to him but his feet were planted to the floor. But before the girl could hit the floor, Jem caught her and helped her back to her feet. Another spike went through him, that seemed like jealousy but Simon had no reason to be jealous over a girl he didn't even know… Did he?

He was so caught up in his thoughts once more that he didn't even realise the heated discussion between the girl and Sebastian. Oh shit, does she realise who she's having an argument with? Simon's mind shouted but something nagged in the back of his brain as he realised, although the girl was a few inches smaller than him, she didn't seem intimidated at all.

The weird thing was although the girl was insanely close to Sebastian and what looked like he was coming on to her; even from the distance between Simon and the girl, Simon could tell that something bad was going to happen.

And not to the girl.

Simon's premonition of sorts turned out to be true when Sebastian leaned down slightly and the girl kicked him, hard, in the balls. Silence coated the whole field who had turned to watch the interaction.

Shock rippled through Simon was he watched the girl with one broken leg look down at the muscular giant named Sebastian Morgenstern, who was brought down on his knees with one kick from an injured smaller girl, with something that glimmered in her eyes; that Simon couldn't quite depict.

Although while Simon was shocked, he also wasn't. It was as if he knew the girl was capable of bringing a guy, who was more than double her surface area, down with one kick. Which didn't make sense because he didn't know the girl as much as he would've liked to think she was Cris, Simon couldn't get his hopes up in thinking that the girl was her.

Simon's mind once again took over and he was only pulled out of the state when Maia grabbed his arm and started pulling him to the main entrance.

Simon looked to her in confusion as he saw that the rest of the girls were also going into the school, to which she simply said, as if it were a normal occurrence, "We're following her,"

Simon didn't say anything to this but he just allowed himself to be pulled along by the very determined Maia. He didn't ask why they were following her, it seemed pretty obvious to Simon that the girls made the same connection to the girl as Simon did but they seemed they were more convinced in it than Simon was.

His mind seemed at war with itself as one half shouted that she was Cris and the other shouted that she wasn't. To be truthful all of this was giving Simon a massive headache and was making him feel a little light-headed.

At the front entrance, Simon saw Izzy, Clary, Tessa, Tris, Hazel, Katniss, Jace and Will were already there as Simon and Maia approached them. Simon was slightly surprised not to see Jamie and Jem but it was probably more likely that Jamie was in shock and that Jem was helping him. Simon would've cared but that's a lie, he wouldn't have.

"Come on, she went to the Charlotte's office," Jace said quietly and Will nodded saying, "Yeah, it'll probably be easier if we went the longer way round, then she will be less likely to see us,"

Simon could tell that Clary was worried about Jace as she tensed slightly next to him. There was no doubt that Clary had noticed that the determination on Jace's face was hiding the pain he was undoubtedly feeling. Simon thought the same would be for Tessa and Will.

Simon put a comforting hand on Clary's shoulder to which she looked up at him a smiled slightly before sighing and leaning into him. He wound his arm round her shoulders and held her close to him. Simon could feel Jace's glare but Simon didn't let go.

"I've missed you, Si," Clary whispered as the others talked about what way they were going to go. Simon was slightly shocked by this but after the eventual shock wore off he smiled and whispered into her coppery hair, "I've missed you too, Clare,"

"Simon, Jace is about to rage," Tris said looking at Jace with a small smile. Just to piss Jace off more Simon pulled Clary into a closer hug to which she reciprocated but looked up at Simon with a slightly exasperated look. He laughed a bit then let her go.

"Please, I don't love Clary like that," Simon said to Jace as Jace smiled maliciously. Clary looked to Simon worriedly knowing that smile. Crap, Simon thought as he internally scolded himself.

"No, you love my sister!" Jace said smiling evilly. Simon gulped and was slightly annoyed when no one looked even the littlest bit surprised. "Dude, that was un-called for," Simon said which just made Jace smile wider as Will said, "You're not denying it," Simon tried to give an excuse but it all came out as random stuttered of syllables.

Then Jace whispered something to Will to which Simon heard, something along the lines of, "Cris'll traipse all over him in Doc Martens" Will laughed at this to which Simon gave a deflating sigh.

"Come on, we better go," Tessa said looking down the empty corridors. No one was allowed in the corridors before school in case of a repeat of Cris' situation, Mrs Branwell's orders.

When they finally catch up with the girl, she was walking in the exact direction to the office, which was weird considering Simon had never seen her at school before. Suddenly the girl turned around making Simon confused as their footsteps couldn't be heard. Simon caught a glimpse of her tear-stricken face before throwing himself into one of the adjoining corridors.

Simon looked at the others who had slightly worried expressions on their faces. They stayed completely silent, not moving an inch before they heard the sounds of crutches starting up again. When they were sure she wasn't walking towards them, they slowly stepped out of the corridor and followed her again.

After a few minutes they swung into another adjoining corridor as they watched the girl knock on the door of the office, to have Mr Michaelis swing open the door. They watched in surprise as Mr Michaelis actually allowed himself to show shock on his face. It was so rare that he showed emotion but what was even rarer was the smile that was then plastered on his face as he pulled the girl into a hug.

Simon looked around the group and realised they were just as shell-shocked as he was. Despite the urge to, no one said anything on the matter in case either of them would hear but Simon could tell everyone wanted to say something on the matter. He could just tell that Jace and Will were even more convinced that it was Cris as Mr Michaelis never showed any emotion, apart from smugness, to anyone apart from Cris, to which he apparently showed a lot of different feelings.

They watched as Mr Michaelis whispered something in the girl's ear to which they all looked to Jace as he shrugged, seemingly even he didn't know what the teacher said. Then, to add to their surprise even more, the girl, breathlessly, said, "Sebastian, you're crushing me,"

How did she know his first name? Simon thought, even most of the group didn't know his first name and even then they wouldn't say it to his face. Mr Michaelis didn't even mind her using it! Normally if any student said his real name he would have bitten their heads off but what made the girl so different.

She's different from every other girl because she's CRIS! His mind shouted, to which he wanted to bang his head against the wall at the thought. Immediately the other side of his brain shouted, it's NOT HER, get over it. She's in a coma and there's NOTHING you can do about it.

Simon sighed quietly thinking, Jesus, my brain is going to be the death of me.

They watched as the girl impersonated one of their Horticulture teachers, Mr/Miss Sutcliff. Simon's brain then wondered off as to why Sutcliff taught Horticulture because although he seemed pretty good at sculpting brushes, he was completely uninterested in it and never wore the appropriate clothes for it. Simon thought it probably had something to do with being able to use a chainsaw legally but that got token away, and replaced with gardening shears, then child's scissors, because he accidently chopped off some girls hair with it, meaning the chainsaw nearly shopped her head off. That was what apparently happened but Simon couldn't have been sure as lord knows why a teacher would be able to stay in that position after nearly cutting off a girl's head.

If this girl hadn't been here before; how did she do one of the best impersonations of a teacher that taught here? Simon asked himself as Mr Michaelis almost dropped the girl at the rather spooky impression. Wait how did she even know how to get to the office? Simon once again asked, having not had the little epiphany earlier.

The door shut behind the girl and they all silently crept up to the door. Simon, Izzy, Jace and Will being the ones who had their ears pressed right up against the thick wooden door. They were completely silent as they strained to hear the voices coming from inside the office that only sounded like soft murmurs through the door.

Simon sighed, saying softly, "I can't hear anything they're saying," Hazel looked at him in slight annoyance, as if he was talking over the voices while Katniss sighed face-palming. Suddenly Tris' face went blank and she turned and ran down the corridor.

Katniss, Hazel, Tessa, Maia and Clary also, as if knowing what Tris was doing, sprinted off in the same direction as Tris. Before Simon could even think of why they ran, or even to run away himself, the door to the office flew open sending the remainders of the group, being Simon, Jace, Will and Izzy, flying into the room as they had been leaning heavily on the door.

But before they could hit the ground the landed on two hard black coated legs. They slowly looked up, simultaneously, to see Mr Michaelis smirking evilly down at them. The demon teacher the grabbed the three boys and shoved them into the room while escorting Izzy in.

When they got in the saw the girl sitting on the couch very professionally, as if in a business meeting. Simon stood shocked unable to look at the girl and for the hundredth time that day, the questions that were being hurled at them flew right over his head as he transfixed his eyes on the girl; a slight blush forming over his cheeks when the girls gave him, to his thoughts, a suggestive wink.

The rest of their time in the office was short lived as they were kicked out and given detentions. Ugh, life sucks!

"Huh, clever" Izzy said a smile slightly tipping the corners of her mouth up. They all looked to her expectantly, as if she knew something that they didn't. "You're a terrible Welshman," She started towards Will, whose blue eyes burned into her.

"Owens is a popular Welsh name like Jones," She said as if that made things better but the three boys still looked to her, confused.

Not clarifying herself but carrying on and making sense anyway, "And Crystal is the original basis of Crisiant!"
