My can-do attitude lasted an impressive two weeks before the problems I had been avoiding since my arrival came hurdling towards me literally . As I mentioned before, I only feed once a month however the emotional stress I've been in lately has had me hard pressed to hunt more often. If started off perfectly fine, I found a nice secluded part of the woods and caught the trail of a pack of deer. Unfortunately I also caught the trail of Dr. "I kill who ever I want without thinking of the consequences" and his 'family'. By the time I had recognized the scent and mapped out a path of escape, I was thrown into a tree by the large bear-like man. It took me a few seconds to collect my thoughts, because even though I'm a vampire with unimaginable skills, being smashed into by brother bear is still surprising. By the time I stood up and brushed myself off I was surrounded by the entire group, excluding Ed-him.
Surrounded on all sides I began to feel like an animal trapped in a corner, dark storm clouds began to roll into the sky and around us, the trees were wrestling with the wind. five sets of amber eyes glanced around at the changing scenery while one set remained on me the entire time. I felt waves of serenity being pushed at me as the wind slowly receded. Then the good doctor began to speak, "Catherine…" his voice was sturdy, I'm sure had he still been human it would have wobbled with guilt and precaution "Please, join us at our home so we may discuss some-" "No" I cut him off quickly, realizing where the conversation was heading.
No amount of empath interference could sway the fact that this man stole something from me that would never be returned. I spoke lowly, in a quiet sort of calm rage "No matter what you say, it will not change. Tell him whatever you please, in fact I encourage you to pass my behavior off as insanity so that one of us can be pardoned from the pain you have already caused." His face remained as impassive as one could be in a situation this precarious and with a small sigh he said "As you wish". He then nodded to the others in the group and one by one they disappeared until I was left standing alone with doctor Cullen. "The invitation to join us is still extended, I would like for you to meet the others formally, and maybe to see that Edward is better off now- with Bella." He saw the rage enter my eyes along with the venomous tears that would never spill and added "It is not my intention to torture you with memories form the past, but to help move your life along so you may no longer be burdened with the consequences of my actions."
Although his explanation made little sense to me at the time, I did want to know at least the names of the immortals I would be sharing the town with. Reluctantly I nodded and said "Perhaps, after I feed, I will stop by for introductions. I do not wish to meet the one named Bella. I fear my emotions may get the better of me. " I spoke only truth, as much as I like to believe I am completely over my ex-fiancé I doubt I could happily meet his new love.
What followed the events that took place in the forest can only be described as the beginning of yet another life. I found the cullens home after a few hours of satiating my thirst (Which had been heightened by the unsettling and impromptu meeting with the Cullen clan). Gravel crunched under my shoes as I walked to the front door at the slowest pace I could manage, trying to prolong my journey from the frying pan directly into the fire. The door swung open as I reached the stairs and the pixie jump towards me, arms stretched for a hug which I was more than happy to side step. She, using her springy reflexes, twisted around to catch me from behind. Already my first impression of the family was not off to a great start. She then dragged me unto the house because I was apparently moving slower than some guy named Emmett when she took him shopping.
The living room was ironicaly filled with the non-living. I recognized all but one from my initial encounter at the school. She was sitting next to the Doctor. Holding his hand and leaning her head on his shoulder. I pitied her as she knew nothing of the deeds he had done. Surely, if she knew she would not be holding the hands that snatched everything from me.
As if the one person I refused to make eye contact with knew what I was thinking, a growl came from the side of the room that housed Edward. Breaking the tension Carlisle began to speak "Ah, Catherine, Im glad you decided to come. Allow me to make introductions" he stood, bringing his lady friend with him. The others followed in his actions and soon enough I was toe-to-toe with a group of slightly unwelcoming vampires. "My name is, as you already know, Carlisle Cullen. Beside me is my wife Esme, and these are our children." Before I had time to react to the fact that he had called them his children they began to introduce themselves, first the pixie "My name is Alice and we are going to be best friends!" I doubt it, The empath went next "Jasper" the statement of his name was followed by a quick nod and with that the super model began to speak "Not that it matters because you wont be around after this, my name is Rosalie" her words were met with a warning glare from her 'father'. The large one that tackled me in the forest was next, "Im Emmett, uh, sorry for the whole tree thing" his puppy dog grin was met with my unforgiving stare as he brought his hand up to scratch the back of his head.
Finally, the one I was least prepared for. Edward avoided eye contact as he simply stated his name "Edward". He was so different from my Edward. His eyes remained downcast and forlorn where as Edward Masen would have looked straight on with mirth and mischief. There were many differences between My Edward and this Edward. The fact that this Edward was irrevocably broody and had a slightly tormented aura had my head spinning. My Edward was bright, happy, he knew what he wanted in life, and to top it off he remembered me. This Edward is obviously not MY Edward. At my thoughts his head snapped up and confused eyes met mine, Carlisle was quick to recognize what had happened and explained that "Edward can read minds". For a short moment I had began to panic, as my original plan was to forgo mentioning our previous connection however, Edwards eyes changed from confused to understanding and I knew then that he had been told the truth without my consent. I decided that the slight betrayal was nobodies fault, as a mind reader can only be kept from the truth for so long. It is unfortunate I could not spare him from knowing. A I observed him closely I noticed that he didn't seem to be affected at all. It made sense because he had clearly forgotten his human life, so the news of a lost love that he had no memories of logically had no effect besides a slight curiosity of his life before death.
It made me wish I had been the one to forget. Such blissful ignorance seemed like paradise.
It was that day though, that, as I said before, my third life began. One filled with a bigger family than I needed, one filled with adventure, and one filled with unwanted memories. My initial thoughts on the Cullens:
Alice: alarmingly happy
Jasper: Has happy pills for when I'm angry
Rosalie: Possibly more beautiful than myself
Emmett: Jesus Christ that is a big man
Carlisle: I will always hate him.
Esme: Hard to hate
Edward Cullen: The exact opposite of Edward Masen.
Oh god im sorry for how late im updating. let me know if i should just not even bother at this point. I also need help! Im not sure where in the story line I wanted this AU to be. I cant decide if it should be before the wedding or after. Im thinking of doing a time skip. From when she saw them at the school to when bella and ed get married. Ill add chapters of different interactions between her and each of the characters (Like meeting bella, and such).
Thanks to everyone who reviewed and favorited the story, Im sorry I forgot about writing for so long, and Ill try better C: ~~Viv Elaine
